Venous malformation with phleboliths is uncommon cause of unilateral parotid swelling. The clinical and radiographic appearance of venous malformation with phleboliths may masquerade as sialolithiasis. A 49-year-old female complained about unilateral parotid swelling for 6 years. Preoperative evaluation including computed tomography and sonography showed the suspicion of venous malformation with phleboliths. Superficial parotidectomy was performed. Pathological examination confirmed that the mass was venous malformation with phleboliths combined with sialolith in the parotid gland. We present the case of unilateral parotid swelling caused by a venous malformation combined with sialolithiasis.

제 4형 Ehlers-Danlos 증후군 혈관 침범형 환자에서 발생한 자발적 혈흉을 개흉술 후 거즈를 충전 압박하여 성공적으로 지혈하였다. 지혈이 어려울 것으로 예상되는 환자에서 지혈 목적의 개흉 수술은 최후의 방법으로 신중히 고려되어야 할 것으로 보인다.

본 논문은 CDN(Content Delivery Network)의 동적 캐싱 방식을 기반으로 하는 적응적 TTL(Time-To-Live) 할당기법을 제안한다. 이는 클라이언트가 실시간 개인방송을 시청하는 중 지나간 과거의 특정 장면을 다시 시청할 때 근원(Origin)서버의 부하를 효율적으로 줄일 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 캐시(Cache)서버의 저장 공간도 효율적으로 사용할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서 제안하는 적응적 TTL 할당기법은 개인방송 시청자들이 지나간 과거의 영상들을 선택적으로 시청할 때 보다 나은 서비스를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Pharmacogenomics research requires an intelligent integration of large-scale genomic and clinical data with public and private knowledge resources. We developed a web-based knowledge base for KPRN (Korea Pharmacogenomics Research Network, http://kprn.snubi. org/). Four major types of information is integrated; genetic variation, drug information, disease information, and literature annotation. Eighteen Korean pharmacogenomics research groups in collaboration have submitted 859 genotype data sets for 91 disease-related genes. Integrative analysis and visualization of the large collection of data supported by integrated biomedical path­ways and ontology resources are provided with a user-friendly interface and visualization engine empowered by Generic Genome Browser.

Implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) can be a crucial therapeutic modality for pediatric patients with congenital heart disease, Brugada syndrome, long QT syndrome and cardiomyopathy. Because transvenous implantation of ICD is mostly unfeasible for pediatric patients due to anatomical and technical limitations, epicardial patch type or subcutaneous type ICD have been used. Implantation of these alternative ICDs, however, was reported to be frequently associated with significant complications. We report a case of successful intrapericardial implantation of a single coil-type ICD through the transverse sinus in a 27 month-old child weighing lesser than 10 kg, and it was inferred from this experience that this alternative technique may decrease complications and morbidities after ICD implantation in children.

A 13-year-old girl, who had undergone the total correction of partial atrioventricular septal defect at the age of 4 years, was admitted with severe tricuspid regurgitation in echocardiography. She had received one-and-a-half ventricle repair during follow-up. Her right ventricle showed global akinesia, and the ejection fraction of the left ventricle was 25% with paradoxical interventricular septal motion. We performed right ventricular exclusion adjunct to the Fontan procedure. She is doing well two years after the operation without complications.

Desmoplastic fibroblastoma is a rare fibrous tumor that usually presents as a painless, slow-growing mass in the subcutaneous tissues and skeletal muscles. It has a wide anatomic distribution, with the most common involvement being the arm and shoulder. Here, we report a case of a tiny painful desmoplastic fibroblastoma arising on the scalp. According to a microscopic examination, this tumor was composed of spindle-shaped fibroblasts in the dense collagenous stroma. On immunohistochemical staining, tumor cells were positive for vimentin and negative for smooth muscle actin, CD34, and S100. Our case is unique in that desmoplastic fibroblastoma developed on the scalp and there was presence of pain despite its small size.
