최근 보급되는 스마트 디바이스들은 실외뿐만 아니라 실내의 위치를 측정할 수 있는 기술들을 제공하고 있다. 실외 위치 측위 같은 경우는 기존의 GPS(Global Positioning System)를 사용하는 것이 일반적이지만, 실내 위치 측위는 기존의 GPS 방법으로는 한계가 있어 다양한 새로운 방법들이 연구 중에 있다. 그 중 가장 대표적인 방법은 BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy) 기반의 비콘(beacon)을 활용하는 것이다. 그러나 이 또한 추가적인 하드웨어가 필요할 뿐만 아니라 충전이 필요하다는 단점이 존재한다. 따라서 본 논문은 상기 단점들을 극할 수 있는 OCC(Optical Camera Communication)를 활용한 실내 위치 측위 기술을 고려한다. 특별히 공연장 내에서 관객들이 소지하고 있는 스마트 디바이스 카메라의 상대적인 위치정보를 획득하는 시스템을 제안한다. 이는 추가적인 하드웨어를 필요로 하지 않고 비동기식 접근이 가능하다는 장점이 있다. 본 논문에서 제안한 시스템을 통해 획득된 위치정보들은 촬영한 영상과 함께 저장되어 다양한 시점을 제공하는 응용데이터로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

Eight female Himalayan tahrs (Hemitragus jemlahicus) were estrus-synchronized, and transcervically inseminated with frozen-thawed semen in September, 2009, about 2 to 3 months earlier than their natural breeding season. Intravaginal progesterone-releasing devices were inserted into vaginas of six Himalayan tahrs on September 7, and the other two on September 8 to suppress luteal function of ovaries. The devices had been placed deep inside the vagina prior to withdrawal on September 23. A day before CIDR removal, a combination of PMSG 400 IU and hCG 200 IU was intramuscularly injected. Forty hours later, frozen-thawed semen was transcervically inseminated. Pregnancy diagnosis was performed 39 days later by analyzing progesterone level of serum. Every treatment was done under anesthesia inducted by xylazine injection. In conclusion, vaginal discharge of cervical mucus, hormonal changes induced by implant-typed or muscularly injectable hormones and widening of cervix enough to insert an insemination gun into uterine body were achieved in non-breeding season. Moreover, the first inseminated Himalayan tahr, 36 hours after CIDR removal was assumed to be pregnant but the fetus may have been lost due to the use of anesthetic drug.

Ewing's sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumor (ES/PNET) is an unusual malignancy with aggressive behavior. ES/PNET in the cerebellopontine angle (CPA) is extremely uncommon, and we report on a rare case here. A 31-year-old man presented with one month history of left facial palsy, hearing loss, swallowing difficulty, and hoarseness. Magnetic resonance images showed a large mass in the left CPA and a small one in the right cerebellar hemisphere. The patient underwent a surgery for the CPA mass lesion, and the pathology was compatible with ES/PNET. Radiation therapy and chemotherapy were administered. In contrast to the initial radiologic findings resembling vestibular schwannoma or meningioma, ES/PNET had several distinct clinical features. A patient with a CPA mass and presenting unusual clinical features should be suspected of having a rare malignancy.

Thoracic extramedullary hematopoiesis (EMH) is a rare disease entity that is usually associated with hematologic disorders, such as myelodysplastic or hemolytic disease. Because thoracic EMH is usually encountered as a mass during radiologic examinations, it should be differentiated from posterior mediastinal neurogenic tumors. Here, the authors report a case of EMH associated with hereditary spherocytosis. The patient underwent a complete excision by thoracoscopic surgery to differentiate it from other mediastinal tumors.

We report a 23-year-old woman with adult Sandhoff disease, who presented with motor neuron disease phenotype. The patient had experienced progressive motor weakness in four extremities since 1 year prior to admission. Electrophysiological study revealed wide-spread denervation potentials, and the assay of total hexosaminidase involving A and B activities showed decreased levels of these activities, which was consistent with Sandoff disease. This is the first Korean case of adult Sanhoff disease presented as a motor neuron disease phenotype.

A 39-year-old man presented with cough, chest discomfort, and weight loss. On the basis of the patient history and laboratory findings, he was diagnosed with the hypereosinophilic syndrome. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed a large thrombus in the left ventricle. Medical treatment with anticoagulation and immunosuppression was commenced immediately. Fourteen days after the initial diagnosis, the patient presented with acute pain in his right leg. Computed tomographic angiogram showed embolic occlusion of the infrarenal abdominal aorta and bilateral iliac (including common, external, and internal iliac) arteries. Emergent thromboembolectomy and left ventricular thrombectomy were performed. The postoperative course was uneventful, and the patient has undergone follow-up for 2 months without any evidence of recurrence of thromboembolism.

Venous malformation with phleboliths is uncommon cause of unilateral parotid swelling. The clinical and radiographic appearance of venous malformation with phleboliths may masquerade as sialolithiasis. A 49-year-old female complained about unilateral parotid swelling for 6 years. Preoperative evaluation including computed tomography and sonography showed the suspicion of venous malformation with phleboliths. Superficial parotidectomy was performed. Pathological examination confirmed that the mass was venous malformation with phleboliths combined with sialolith in the parotid gland. We present the case of unilateral parotid swelling caused by a venous malformation combined with sialolithiasis.

We successfully performed bleeding control using roll-gauze packing in a patient with Type IV Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and this patient was suffering from spontaneous hemothorax. Thoracotomy for controlling ongoing bleeding in a patient with Type IV Ehlers-Danlos syndrome should be performed as a last resort after due consideration.
