In this paper, we newly introduce a visible light communication (VLC) repeater using the LED array in an LED lamp. The LED array is used for a light source in the repeater, which radiates light both for illumination and data transmission. A VLC repeater is made by adding some electronic circuits to the LED array including a photodetector, a demodulator, and a modulator. The repeater is installed on the ceiling of a room like a conventional LED lamp, receives the VLC signal from an arbitrary transmitter, recovers data, and radiates the signal to wide area in the room. We used a carrier frequency of 100 kHz for the uplink from a transmitter to the repeater, and 500 kHz for the downlink from the repeater to a receiver. The repeater is useful for increasing the transmission path to wide area over the obstacles that may exist between VLC transmitters and receivers.
This paper relates to a technology for monitoring a liquefied gas storage tank in the special gas field where demand is increasing owing to the continuous growth of related fields such as the semiconductor, display, and ICT convergence electronics industries. We have proposed a system for real - time monitoring using wireless sensor network technology, and implemented a system consisting of a sensor unit, transmitter module, and receiver module to be attached to a liquefied gas storage tank. The system was applied to LCO2 tanks among various liquefied gas storage tanks to verify the feasibility. The storage tanks employed in the experiments has capacities of 16,179 l and was 1,920 mm in inner diameter. Furthermore, the density was 1.03 g/l. The measured data were compared with reference data on the remaining gas level versus the $CO_2$ height of the surface, expressed using a conventional water meter, provided by an existing storage tank supplier. The experimental results show that the data is similar to the standard data provided by the tank supplier, and has a high accuracy and reliability within an error range of 0.03%.
This paper deals with a development of auto mobile watch system which can control direct auto mobile state or position. Main controller consists of the Z-80 computer, sensor and high frequency receiver. Mobile loading consists of the Intel 8751H one-chip and ultrasonic transmitter, having able to detect all auto mobile state. And, the search data is sent the main controller by the high frequency transmitter and ultrasonic transducer.
In this paper, we introduce an edge-spike modulation method for visible light communication (VLC). This method is effective in preventing LED flicker and 120 Hz noise interference in base-band VLC. In the VLC transmitter, edge-spikes are generated by passing the digital data through a simple RC-high pass filter (HPF). The LED modulation of the edge-spikes does not change the average power of the LED light; thus it prevents LED flicker. In the VLC receiver, the 120 Hz noise from other lighting lamps is easily eliminated by RC-HPF, while the edge-spike signal is detected normally. In our experiment, the message of an air-quality sensor was successfully transmitted using edge-spike modulation. This structure is useful in constructing, e.g., wireless gas monitoring sensor systems to warn and prevent harmful gas leakage accidents in buildings using LED light.
We introduce a new visible light communication (VLC) method in which three-level return-to-zero (RZ) modulation is used for flicker-free transmission. In the VLC transmitter, the three-level RZ modulation ensures that the average optical power is constant; thus, a flicker-free light-emitting diode (LED) light is achieved. In the VLC receiver, a resistor-capacitor high-pass filter is used for generating spike signals, which are used for data recovery while eliminating the 120 Hz optical noise from adjacent lighting lamps. In transmission experiments, we applied this method for wireless transmission of an air quality sensor message using the visible light of an LED array. This configuration is useful for the construction of indoor wireless sensor networks for air pollution monitoring using LED lights.
The authors propose a robust symbol timing recovery (STR) for telephone line modems supporting data rates up to 32 Mbps. The STR is initialized by a start signal from carrier sensor, and the novel method is proposed which resolves the difference between the frequency of the transmitter's clock and the receiver's clock, called baud frequency offset. The proposed method is applied on digital receiver in a 16 frequency diverse quadrature amplitude modulation (FDQAM) system.

Recently, compressive sensing based data loss recovery techniques have become popular for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) applications. These techniques involve an encoding process which is onerous to sensor node because of random sensing matrices used in compressive sensing. In this paper, we are presenting a model where the sampled raw acceleration data is directly transmitted to base station/receiver without performing any type of encoding at transmitter. The received incomplete acceleration data after data losses can be reconstructed faithfully using compressive sensing based reconstruction techniques. An in-depth simulated analysis is presented on how random losses and continuous losses affects the reconstruction of acceleration signals (obtained from a real bridge). Along with performance analysis for different simulated data losses (from 10 to 50%), advantages of performing interleaving before transmission are also presented.
An ultrasonic sensor has been widely used as a range sensor for its low cost and capability of detecting some obstacles, such as glasses and black surfaces, which are not well detected by a laser scanner and an IR sensor. Although low-cost sensors are preferred for practical service robots, they suffer from the inaccurate and insufficient range information. This paper proposes a novel approach to obstacle avoidance using low-cost anisotropic ultrasonic sensors with wide beam angle. In this paper, obstacles can be detected by the proposed sensor configuration which consists of one transmitter and three receivers. Because even wide obstacles are represented by a point, which corresponds to the intersection of range data from each receiver of the anisotropic sensor, a robot cannot avoid wide obstacles successfully. This paper exploits the probabilistic mapping technique to avoid collision with various types of obstacles. The experimental results show that the proposed method can robustly avoid obstacles in most indoor environments.

Recently, service area has been emerging field f robotic applications. Even though assistant robots play an important role for the disabled and the elderly, they still suffer from operating the robots using conventional interface devices such as joysticks or keyboards. In this paper we propose an efficient computer interface using real-time eye-gaze tracking system. The inputs to the proposed system are images taken by a camera and data from a magnetic sensor. The measured data is sufficient to describe the eye and head movement because the camera and the receiver of a magnetic sensor are stationary with respect to the head. So the proposed system can obtain the eye-gaze direction in spite of head movement as long as the distance between the system and the transmitter of a magnetic position sensor is within 2m. Experimental results show the validity of the proposed system in practical aspect and also verify the feasibility of the system as a new computer interface for the disabled.
