The Effects of Modal Noise on fiber optic Analog video Transmission (광섬유 아나로그 영상신호 전송에 대한 모달 노이즈 영향)

  • The effects of modal noise of analog video transmission systems using semiconductor laser diode is investigated. The system linearity degradation due to modal noise is examined for various fiber types. It was concluded that in alalog video transmission systems using multimode fiber, modal noise is so serious that reduction of coherency is essential to the development and that single mode libers are adequate for high quality analog video transmission systems.

  • Precision stage is essential device for semiconductor equipments, fiber optic assembly systems and micro machines. In this paper, we develop a piezo-electric inchworm type actuator for long stroke ultra precision linear stages, and implement a controller to interface with commercial motion controllers. It provides fast implementation of precise position control system substituting for rotary motor. In the future, using a laser interferometer as a position sensor, we plan to implement a nano meter precision stage.

  • We have carried out a basic experiment in order to develope a super high-resolution optical microscope which transcend the limitation of diffraction and the wavelength of lightwave. The image of this scope is composed by measuring the evanescent wave which is localized on the surface of the testing materials. A detecting probe was fabricated with a single mode optical fiber to be sharpened by the chemical etching, and drived by PZT. The standing wave of $0.33\mu\textrm{m}$ wavelength evanescent wave which was generated from the $0.78\mu\textrm{m}$-wavelength semiconductor laser was detected by the $0.5\mu\textrm{m}$-thickness optical fiber probe.

  • 지금까지 반도체 장비 부품 세정을 위한 기존의 세정 방법중 가장 널리 사용되는 화학적 세정 방법은 다량의 유해 화학물질의 발생 및 후처리 문제, 비용문제, 열악한 작업 환경등과 같은 많은 문제를 노출시키고 있다. 이에 최근의 기술은 습식 세정에서 건식세정 방식으로의 기술 전이가 빠르게 이루어지고 있으며, 특히 레이저 광에 의한 건식 세정 기술은 다양한 오염 물질을 하나의 레이저 광원으로 제거할수 있으며, 기존의 습식 방법과 비교해 환경 친화적 청정 기술이고, 다른 건식 세정 기술인 드라이 아이스 및 플라즈마 세정 방법과 비교해 이동용으로 제작이 가능해 반도체 및 평판 디스플레이 생산공정에서 부품을 분리하지 않고 쉽게 세정을 하기 때문에 반도체 생산 현장에서 in-situ 세정으로 시간적, 경제적 이점이 대단히 크다.   • The GaAs semiconductor whispering gallery modes, produced in the peripheral Rayleigh band region of W/sub Rayleigh/ = (${\Phi}$/2)( 1-n/sub eff/n), exhibit novel properties of ultralow thresholds open to nano-ampere regime associated with photonic quantum ring (PQR) production (Fig 1 (a)). The PQR phenomena are associated with a photonic field-driven phase transition of quantum well(QW)-to-quantum wire (QWR) and hence the photonic (non-de Broglie) quantum corral effects, on the Rayleigh cavity confined carriers in dynamic steady state, occur as schematically shown in Fig 1.   • A wavelength measurement system has been made using a monochromator and computer interfacing. The spectra of several light emitting diodes and the wavelength characteristics of Fabry-Perot LD and DFB LD have been measured with this system. The results show that this system can be practicalIy used in analyzing the lasing mode and the wavelength characteristics of the semiconductor lasers. asers.

Effect of Thermal Annealing on the Characteristics of Bi-Sb Thin Film Structure

  • In this study, Bi-Sb thin film structure was prepared by thermal evaporation method. The electrical, optical transmission and structural characteristics of the prepared samples were introduced before and after thermal annealing process. At temperature of $500^{\circ}C$, the absorption of the structure was improved to reach 97% at near-infrared region. As well, the thermal annealing caused to reduce the bulk resistance of the Bi-Sb thin film structure. The morphology of Bi-Sb structure was also improved by thermal annealing as characteristic islands of the structure appear clearly in form hexagonal areas distinct from each other. This study is aiming to examine such structures if they are employed as photonic devices such as photodetectors, LED's and optical switches.

  • Micro resonators have been actively investigated for bio/chemical sensors and RF M/NEMS devices. Among various materials, SiC is a very promising material for micro/nano resonators since the ratio of its Young's modulus, E, to mass density, $\rho$, is significantly higher than other semiconductor materials, such as, Si and GaAs. Polycrystalline 3C-SiC cantilever with different lengths were fabricated using a surface micromachining technique. Polycrystalline 3C-SiC micro resonators were actuated by piezoelectric element and its fundamental resonance was measured by a laser vibrometer in air and vacuum at room temperature, respectively. For the cantilever with $100{\mu}m$ length, $10{\mu}m$width and $1.3{\mu}m$ thickness, the fundamental frequency appeared at 147.2 kHz.

  • As a next generation lithography (NGL) technology for VLSI semiconductor fabrication, electron beam, ion beam, X-ray and extreme ultraviolet(EUV) are considered as possible candidates. Among these methods, EUV lithography(EUVL) is thought to be the most probable because it is easily realized by improving current optical lithography technology. In order to set EUV radiation which can be applied to EUVL, it is essential to generate very high density and high temperature plasma stably. The method using a pulse power laser and a high voltage pulse discharge is commonly used to accomplish such a high density and high temperature plasma. In this paper we review the recent trends of the EUV generation technique by high density and high temperature plasma.

  • Recently, we have seen a rapid advance in the evolving field of spin electronics (or spintronics). In spintronics, some feasibilities of new electronic applications utilizing spin degree of freedom have been explored. Diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMSs) are premising materials for spintronics because they have both charge and spin degree of freedom in a single substance. DMSs are refereed to semiconductor alloys in which some atoms are randomly substituted for by magnetic atoms. (omitted)
