A Hybrid Software Defined Networking Architecture for Next-Generation IoTs

  • Everything in the world is becoming connected and interactive due to the Internet. The future of interactive smart environments such as smart cities, smart industries, or smart farms demand high network bandwidth, high network flexibility, and self-organization systems without costly hardware upgrades, and they provide a sustainable, scalable, and replicable smart environment backbone infrastructure. This paper presents a new Hybrid Software-Defined architecture for integrating Internet-of-Things technologies that are essential technologies for smart environments. It combines a software-defined networking infrastructure and a real-time distributed network framework with an advanced optimization to enable self-configuration, self-management, and self-adaption for providing seamless communication and efficiently managing a vast number of smart heterogeneous devices.

Design and Implementation of Self-networking and Replaceable Structure in Mobile Vector Graphics

  • In this paper, self-networking and replaceable structure in vector graphics contents are presented for wireless internet service. The wireless networks over 2G or 3G are limited in the sense of the speed and the cost. Considering these characteristics of wireless network, self-networking method and replaceable structure in downloaded contents are introduced in order to save the amount of data and provide variations for contents. During the display of contents, a certain data for the contents is downloaded from the server and it is managed appropriately for the operation of the contents. The downloaded materials are reflected to the original contents using replaceable structure. Also, the downloading and modification are independent of the play. In this implementation, the data consists of control data for control and resource data for image, sound or text. Comparing to the conventional methods which download the whole data, the amount of the transmitted data is very small since only the difference is downloaded. Also, during the play of the contents, the changes are adopted immediately. The whole functions are implemented in wireless handset and the various applications are discussed.

  • 본 논문에서는 유비쿼터스 멀티미디어 컨텐츠의 구현을 위해서 자기 네트워킹과 대체 구조를 제안한다. 유비쿼터스 멀티미디어의 여러 가지 특성 중에서 컨텐츠의 측면에서는 컨텐츠의 사실성과 실시간성이 매우 중요하다. 컨텐츠의 실시간성을 위해서 본 논문에서는 자기 네트워킹과 대체 구조를 구현하고 해석한다. 컨텐츠의 네트웍 기능을 이용하여 서버에 접속하고 스스로 업데이트 할 수 있도록 한다. 이에 따라서 전체적인 데이터 전송량을 줄일 수 있으며 마코프 체인 모델을 이용하여 제안된 구조의 처리율을 해석하여 효용성을 보인다. 또한 제안된 구조의 단말기에서의 구현과 이를 통한 어플리케이션에 대해서 정리한다.

  • 최근 로컬 IoT 네트워크 구축과 관련하여 RPL 프로토콜을 활용하는 다양한 비-인프라 기반 IoT 네트워킹 기법들이 연구 중이다. 특히, RPL 프로토콜은 자율네트워킹과 로컬 네트워크에 존재하는 노드 간 애드혹 경로를 제공하지 못하는 문제를 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 비-인프라 기반 IoT 네트워크 구축을 지원하는 자율네트워킹 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 기법은 저전력 손실 네트워크로 구성된 네트워크 환경에 적용 가능한 자율네트워킹 기법이다. 실험을 통해서 제안한 자율네트워킹 기법의 우수한 성능을 보였다. 특히, 단대단 데이터 발생률과 단대단 지연 측면에서 제안하는 기법의 성능이 우수함을 증명하였다.

신생벤처 창업가의 행동 특성과 네트워크 활동이 기업성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 탐색적 연구 (An Exploratory Study on the Effects of Behavioral Characteristics and Networking Activity of Entrepreneurs of Venture Businesses upon Entrepreneurial Performance)

  • 최근 신생벤처 창업가의 네트워크 활동이 성공적인 창업을 좌우한다는 선진연구 가능성이 주목받는 가운데, 본 연구는 창업가의 인지적 특성인 자아효능감과 심리적 특성인 모호성 인내가 네트워크 활동에, 그리고 네트워크 활동의 구성요소들이 기업성과에 미치는 영향에 대해 탐색적으로 연구하는데 그 주된 목적으로 했다. 창업한지 3년 미만의 신생벤처 기업의 창업가 156명의 설문지 응답을 표본으로 검증하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 창업가의 자아효능감은 네트워킹과 기업성과에 각각 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 모호성 인내는 네트워킹과 기업성과에 모두 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 분석되었다. 셋째, 네트워킹은 기업성과에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 네트워크 활동의 구성요소 중 네트워크 빈도와 신뢰는 기업성과에 유의한 영향을 미치는데 반해, 네트워크 범위는 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 분석되었다. 따라서 신생벤처 기업의 성과향상을 위해서는 창업가의 심리적 특성 보다는 인지적 특성인 자아효능감이 더 중요하다고 볼 수 있다. 또한 신생벤처 창업가의 네트워크 활동의 경우, 네트워크 빈도와 신뢰가 네트워크 범위 보다 기업성과에 더 중요한 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 실무적 시사점과 함께 연구한계 및 연구방향을 제시하고 있다.

온라인 네트워킹 활동이 가상협업 역량 및 업무성과에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Online Social Networking on Individual Virtual Competence and Task Performance in Organizations)

  • With the advent of communication technologies including electronic collaborative tools and conferencing systems provided over the Internet, virtual collaboration is becoming increasingly common in organizations. Virtual collaboration refers to an environment in which the people working together are interdependent in their tasks, share responsibility for outcomes, are geographically dispersed, and rely on mediated rather than face-to face, communication to produce an outcome. Research suggests that new sets of individual skill, knowledge, and ability (SKAs) are required to perform effectively in today's virtualized workplace, which is labeled as individual virtual competence. It is also argued that use of online social networking sites may influence not only individuals' daily lives but also their capability to manage their work-related relationships in organizations, which in turn leads to better performance. The existing research regarding (1) the relationship between virtual competence and task performance and (2) the relationship between online networking and task performance has been conducted based on different theoretical perspectives so that little is known about how online social networking and virtual competence interplay to predict individuals' task performance. To fill this gap, this study raises the following research questions: (1) What is the individual virtual competence required for better adjustment to the virtual collaboration environment? (2) How does online networking via diverse social network service sites influence individuals' task performance in organizations? (3) How do the joint effects of individual virtual competence and online networking influence task performance? To address these research questions, we first draw on the prior literature and derive four dimensions of individual virtual competence that are related with an individual's self-concept, knowledge and ability. Computer self-efficacy is defined as the extent to which an individual beliefs in his or her ability to use computer technology broadly. Remotework self-efficacy is defined as the extent to which an individual beliefs in his or her ability to work and perform joint tasks with others in virtual settings. Virtual media skill is defined as the degree of confidence of individuals to function in their work role without face-to-face interactions. Virtual social skill is an individual's skill level in using technologies to communicate in virtual settings to their full potential. It should be noted that the concept of virtual social skill is different from the self-efficacy and captures an individual's cognition-based ability to build social relationships with others in virtual settings. Next, we discuss how online networking influences both individual virtual competence and task performance based on the social network theory and the social learning theory. We argue that online networking may enhance individuals' capability in expanding their social networks with low costs. We also argue that online networking may enable individuals to learn the necessary skills regarding how they use technological functions, communicate with others, and share information and make social relations using the technical functions provided by electronic media, consequently increasing individual virtual competence. To examine the relationships among online networking, virtual competence, and task performance, we developed research models (the mediation, interaction, and additive models, respectively) by integrating the social network theory and the social learning theory. Using data from 112 employees of a virtualized company, we tested the proposed research models. The results of analysis partly support the mediation model in that online social networking positively influences individuals' computer self-efficacy, virtual social skill, and virtual media skill, which are key predictors of individuals' task performance. Furthermore, the results of the analysis partly support the interaction model in that the level of remotework self-efficacy moderates the relationship between online social networking and task performance. The results paint a picture of people adjusting to virtual collaboration that constrains and enables their task performance. This study contributes to research and practice. First, we suggest a shift of research focus to the individual level when examining virtual phenomena and theorize that online social networking can enhance individual virtual competence in some aspects. Second, we replicate and advance the prior competence literature by linking each component of virtual competence and objective task performance. The results of this study provide useful insights into how human resource responsibilities assess employees' weakness and strength when they organize virtualized groups or projects. Furthermore, it provides managers with insights into the kinds of development or training programs that they can engage in with their employees to advance their ability to undertake virtual work.

The Role of Creativity, Altruism, and Social Relationship in Sharing Travel Information Using Social Networking Services

  • Social networking services (SNSs) have become important and popular tools for not only presenting self-image but also sharing travel information. This study adopted self-image expressions to understand tourists' intentions to share travel information and behavioral changes in SNSs. To enhance understanding tourists' intention and behavior, the current study suggests a research model based on motivations for self-image expression (i.e., creativity, altruism and social relationship). This current study empirically resulted in the importance of users' creativity, altruism and social relationship in SNS, which leads to the intention and behavioral changes to share travel information. In addition, altruism moderated the negative effect of creativity on self-image expression as well as the positive effect of the social relationship on self-image expression. Based on the result of this study, the current study bears some implications in a theoretical and practical context.

초등 저학년 자녀를 둔 어머니의 2-3학년 시기 양육역량 변화유형과 예측요인: 자기체계역량, 학교생활 파악수준, 담임교사 상담횟수 및 사회관계망 변화를 중심으로 (The Types of Change in Mothers' Parenting Competency During Their Children's 2nd to 3rd Grades of Primary School and Their Predictive Factors: Focusing on the Changes in Self-System Competency, Level of Understanding of School Life, Number of Counseling Sessions, and Social Networking)

  • Objective: This study aimed to analyze the changes and predictive factors of mothers' parenting competencies during their children's second to third grades in primary school. Methods: We used the data from the Panel study of Korean Parental Educational Involvement. We classified 373 mothers into three groups, 'reduced' parenting competency, 'maintained' parenting competency, and 'increased' parenting competency, and conducted one-way variance analysis and multinomial logistic regression analysis. Results: First, the mothers' parenting competency decreased between their children's 2nd year and 3rd year in primary school. Second, the 'reduced', 'maintained', and 'increased' groups differed from each other in the degree of change in self-system competency, level of understanding of school life, number of counseling sessions with homeroom teachers, and social networking. Third, the degree of change in self-system competency and social networking predicted the increase in mothers' parenting competency. The degree of change in self-system competency and the level of understanding of school life predicted the maintenance of mothers' parenting competency. Conclusion/Implications: This study, for the first time, has revealed the change in mothers' parenting competency and its predictive factors after the second year in primary school. How to support the growth of mothers' parenting competency was also discussed.

미국 커리어 자기계발 조언과 이의 문제점 고찰 (Career Self-help Advice in the US and Its Limits)

  • 본 논문은 미국의 사례를 통해 화이트칼라 구직활동에 영향력을 미치고 있는 커리어 자기계발 조언과 이의 문제점을 고찰한다. 먼저 빈번한 해고와 불안정한 고용의 확산으로 대변되는 미국 화이트칼라 노동시장의 변화와 이와 함께 부상한 자기계발 산업을 간단히 고찰한다. 다음으로 문헌연구를 통해 미국 화이트칼라 구직과정에서 접할 수 있는 대표적 자기 계발 조언을 살펴본다. 이는 정보통신기술의 발달이 구직과정에도 큰 영향을 미치는 점을 고려하여 이러한 기술의 활용을 포함하여 이력서와 네트워킹에 관한 조언을 중심으로 고찰한다. 마지막으로 커리어 자기계발 조언의 영향력에 비추어 이의 문제점들, 특히 개인의 부단한 노력만을 강조하며 이에 취업과 그 결과를 개인의 책임으로 돌리고 있음을 살펴한다.

페이스북 친구들의 반응과 관계적 유용성: 자기노출 성향의 영향력과 성별의 조절효과 (Self-disclosure Tendency, Facebook Activities, and Relational Usefulness: Sex Differences in Young Adults)

  • 이 연구는 자기노출(self-disclosure) 성향, 페이스북에서의 자신의 활동 및 친구들의 반응, 그리고 페이스북의 관계적 유용성 간의 관계를 조사하고, 이러한 관계가 성별에 따라 달라지는지 살펴보았다. 온라인 설문을 통해 34세 미만의 젊은 성인들(N = 309)을 대상으로 조사한 결과, 자기노출 성향은 자신의 페이스북 이용 활동에 영향을 미치고, 이는 다시 친구들의 반응과 밀접한 관련이 있었다. 그리고 자신의 활동과 친구들의 반응 정도가 높을수록 페이스북이 인간관계의 유지와 확장에 유용하다고 생각하는 정도도 강해졌다. 그런데 이러한 변인 간 관계는 성별에 따라 달라지는 것으로 나타났다. 자기노출 성향이 자신의 활동에 미치는 영향력은 남성에게서만 유의미하게 나타났고, 자신의 활동이 관계적 유용성에 미치는 영향력 또한 남성에게서 더 강하게 나타났다. 반면, 친구들의 활동이 유용성에 미치는 영향력은 여성에게서 더 강하게 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 여성들의 경우 남성들에 비해 페이스북 이용의 관계적인 측면을 평가하는데 있어 친구들의 반응을 보다 중요하게 여긴다는 것을 의미한다.
