Characterization of Synthetic Polyamides by MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry

  • MALDI-TOF-MS technique was applied to obtain structural and compositional information of synthetic polyamides, Nylon6 and Nylon66. Mass spectra of both the original and the hydrolyzed polyamide samples were analyzed using the self calibration method as well as the internal calibration method with the standard materials of known masses. The MALDI-TOF mass spectra of Nylon6 samples showed the presence of protonated, sodiated, and potassiated ions that were assigned to cyclic and NH2/COOH terminated linear oligomers. From the MALDI-TOF mass spectra of Nylon66 samples, the potassiated linear oligomers with three different end groups are identified as well as the cyclic oligomers, i.e., NH2/COOH terminated oligomers, NH2/NH2 terminated oligomers, and COOH/COOH terminated oligomers. Full characterization of the molecular species and end groups present in the polyamide samples has been achieved, and also the changes in mass spectral patterns after the hydrolysis of the samples are presented.

Performance of Self-Manufactured Ion Selective Microelectrode (ISME) for Continuous Monitoring of Ammonia and Nitrate Ions

  • The ion selective microelectrodes (ISME) have been applied to observe the continuous profiles of NO3-N and NH4-N in bulk solutions or biofilms. In order to evaluate the performance and applicability of ion concentration measuring system, the characteristics, such as slope of calibration curve, detection limit and potentiometric selectivity coefficient were investigated. The slopes of calibration curve showed high degree of correspondence for each target ion concentrations. And the detection limits of nitrate and ammonia ion selective microelectrode were 10-4.7 M and 10-4.4 M, respectively. These ion selective microelectrodes were proved that their own performance could be maintained for 16 days after making. NO3-N and NH4-N selective microelectrodes were also adapted to detect the continuous ion profiles of cilia media packed MLE (Modified Ludzack-Ettinger) process. And the monitored nitrate and ammonia ion profiles with the ion selective microelectrode were stable and well corresponded to the results with conventional ion chromatograph. However, the electric potential was unstable until 8 hr because of the unknown noise. The tip shape and performance of the ion selective microelectrode was stably kept over 2 days continuous monitoring.

Hydrolytic Degradation of Synthetic Polytrimethylene Terephthalate and Characterization by MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry

  • The structural analysis of polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) and characterization of the hydrolytic degradation products after acid hydrolysis were performed using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Mass spectra of the PTT samples were analyzed using a self-calibration method as well as an internal calibration method with standard materials of known masses. PTT structures constituting the samples were determined from the analyses of the spectra, and their relative compositions were estimated. The MALDI-TOF mass spectra of the acid-hydrolyzed PTT sample showed three main series of oligomer products with different end groups in accordance with the hydrolysis schemes. From the spectra of both $Na^+$ and $K^+$ adducts, it was concluded that the PTT samples have higher affinity for $Na^+$ compared with $K^+$ and therefore show higher ionization efficiency with sodium ions when dithranol is used as a matrix. Two different wavelength laser beams ($\lambda$ = 337 nm and 355 nm) were tested and it was observed that the 355 nm beam was more efficient in obtaining the MALDI spectra of PTT using dithranol as a matrix under our experimental conditions.

Prequalification of a set of buckling restrained braces: Part II - numerical simulations

  • Buckling restrained braces (BRBs) were developed as an enhanced alternative to conventional braces by restraining their global buckling, thus allowing development of a stable quasi-symmetric hysteretic response. A wider adoption of buckling restrained braced frames is precluded due to proprietary character of most BRBs and the code requirement for experimental qualification. To overcome these problems, BRBs with capacities corresponding to typical steel multi-storey buildings in Romania were developed and experimentally tested in view of prequalification. In the second part of this paper, a complex nonlinear numerical model for the tested BRBs was developed in the finite element environment Abaqus. The calibration of the numerical model was performed at both component (material models: steel, concrete, unbonding material) and member levels (loading, geometrical imperfections). Geometrically and materially nonlinear analyses including imperfections were performed on buckling restrained braces models under cyclic loading. The calibrated models were further used to perform a parametric study aiming at assessing the influence of the strength of the buckling restraining mechanism, concrete class of the infill material, mechanical properties of steel used for the core, self-weight loading, and frame effect on the cyclic response of buckling restrained braces.

로고우스키코일을 이용한 과도전류의 측정 (Measurement of Transient Current by using the Rogowski Coil)

  • This paper presents the operation principle and design rule of the Rogowski coil which can measure the transient current and describes the calibration and application experimental results for performance evaluation. It is obtained that the response curves of the Robowski coil with the turns of 300 and the passive integrator to sinusoidal input give a good linearity up to the frequency of 500 [kHz] and the current measurement system gaving the Rogowski coil is the frequency bandwidth of 40 [Hz]~700 [kHz]. As an application experiment for the fabricated modeling power transmission line, the impulse current, which limitates the direct lightning return stroke to overhead ground wire, is measured by the Rogowski coil and its fast Fourier transformation is carried out. The equivalent circuit of the Rogowski coil considering the stray capacitances is proposed, and the theoretical analysis is in good agreement with the measurement results. Also, it is found that for high frequency domain the stray capacitance such as a distributed capacitance to the shield and the capacitance between windings of coil should be considered in designing the Rogowski coils since the resonance originates from the stray capacitance and the self-inductance of the Rogowski coil.

A Novel Calibration Method Research of the Scale Factor for the All-optical Atomic Spin Inertial Measurement Device

  • A novel method to measure the scale factor for the all-optical atomic spin inertial measurement device (ASIMD) is demonstrated in this paper. The method can realize the calibration of the scale factor by a self-consistent method with small errors in the quiescent state. At first, the matured IMU (inertial measurement unit) device was fixed on an optical platform together with the ASIMD, and it has been used to calibrate the scale factor for the ASIMD. The results show that there were some errors causing the inaccuracy of the experiment. By the comparative analysis of theory and experiment, the ASIMD was unable to keep pace with the IMU. Considering the characteristics of the ASIMD, the mismatch between the driven frequency of the optical platform and the bandwidth of the ASIMD was the major reason. An all-optical atomic spin magnetometer was set up at first. The sensitivity of the magnetometer is ultra-high, and it can be used to detect the magnetization of spin-polarized noble gas. The gyromagnetic ratio of the noble gas is a physical constant, and it has already been measured accurately. So a novel calibration method for scale factor based on the gyromagnetic ratio has been presented. The relevant theoretical analysis and experiments have been implemented. The results showed that the scale factor of the device was $7.272V/^{\circ}/s$ by multi-group experiments with the maximum error value 0.49%.

서로 다른 진화 특성을 가지는 부집단들을 사용한 새로운 하이브리드 진화 프로그래밍 기법과 카메라 보정 응용 (A New Hybrid Evolutionary Programming Technique Using Sub-populations with Different Evolutionary Behaviors and Its Application to Camera Calibration)

  • 실수형 최적화 문제의 전역 최적해를 빠르고 정확하게 찾을 가능성을 높이기 위해, 서로 다른 진화특성을 가지는 여러 부집단들을 사용한 새로운 하이브리드 기법이 제안된다. 제안된 알고리듬은 세 개의 부집단을 사용하는데, 복잡한 적합도 함수를 가지는 문제에서 좋은 성능을 보이는 NPOSA 알고리듬이 두개의 부집단에 적용되고, 진화 방향과 크기가 조절되는 자기 적응 진화 알고리듬이 나머지 하나의 부집단에 적용되었다. 각 부집단들은 서로 다른 방법으로 진화하며 부집단들간의 상호교류를 통해 전역 최적해로 빠르게 도달하게 한다. 이 기법의 효율성은 몇 개의 표준 테스트 문제들을 사용하여 검증하였다. 마지막으로, 제안한 알고리듬이 실제 문제에 적용 가능함을 보이기 위해 카메라 파라메터의 최적값을 찾는 문제에 적용하였다. 보정 블럭에서 측정된 특징점들을 사용하여 오차 함수를 정의한 후, 하이브리드 방법이 그 오차 함수를 최소화하는 카메라 파라메터의 값을 찾을 수 있음을 보였다.

사진측량법과 다시점 카메라를 이용한 구조물의 변위계측 (Displacement Measurement of Structure using Multi-View Camera & Photogrammetry)

  • 본 논문에서는 구조물의 안전성을 목적으로 변위를 감시하는 자동화된 시스템을 제안한다. 사진측량 기법은 서로 다른 각도에서 촬영된 2차원 이미지로부터 대상물의 정밀한 3차원 형상을 얻어내는 기법으로써 구조물의 변형을 분석하기에 매우 정확하면서도 편리하다. 본 논문은 카메라보정, 표정점(coded target)을 이용한 특징점의 획득, 획득된 특징점의 3차원 복원 및 정확도 분석의 과정으로 구성된다. 논문에서 사용되는 다시점 카메라 각각의 카메라는 일정한 거리와 시차로 배치하였다. 카메라 보정은 다시점 카메라로부터 획득된 3장의 영상에서 7개 이상의 대응점들로부터 트라이포컬텐서를 구하고 이로부터 유클리드 카메라를 구하는 자기교정(self-calibration) 방법을 사용하였다. 특히 특징점 획득 과정에서, 정확한 좌표를 구하기 위하여 외곽형상으로부터 중심점의 좌표를 정확하게 계산해내는 서브픽셀 기법을 사용하고 패턴 인식 기법을 이용하여 특징점을 자동으로 검출하였으며, 실세계 좌표상에서의 실측값을 구하기 위하여 스케일 바를 사용한다.

사진측량 관점에서 차량측량시스템 영상을 이용한 3차원 위치의 정밀도 분석 (Analysis on 3D Positioning Precision Using Mobile Mapping System Images in Photograrmmetric Perspective)

  • 본 연구에서는 사진측량 관점에서 4S-Van 영상을 이용한 3차원 위치결정의 정밀도를 실험적으로 검증하였다. 실외에 3차원 검정타겟을 설치하고 45-Van에 탑재된 2대의 CCD카메라로부터 검정타겟 영상을 개별적으로 취득하여 자체검정기법으로 각각의 CCD카메라에 대한 내부표정요소를 개별적으로 정확하게 결정하였다. 이와 같이 얻어진 내부표정요소와 검정타겟의 지상좌표 및 검정타겟을 동시에 촬영한 좌ㆍ우측 카메라의 영상좌표를 이용하여 광속조정법으로 2대 CCD카메라의 외부표정요소를 동시에 결정하였다. 또한, 렌즈왜곡이 고려된 에피폴라선을 이용하기 위하여 역렌즈왜곡계수를 최소제곱법을 이용하여 결정하였다. 역렌즈왜곡계수를 이용하여 약 0.5 pixel 이내로 렌즈왜곡이 포함된 영상좌표로 변환이 가능하였다. 렌즈왜곡이 고려된 에피폴라선을 이용한 반자동 영상매칭을 적용하여 3차원 위치결정의 정밀도를 검증하였다. 실험적으로 촬영거리 20m이내에서는 대략2cm 정도의 정밀도를 얻을 수 있었다.
