  • To elucidate the action of the adrenergic nerve on the isolated uterine smooth muscle of the pig, effects of electrical transmural nerve stimulation and norepinephrine were investigated on the pretreatment of phentolamine ; non-selective ${\alpha}$-adrenoceptor blocker, propranolol ; ${\beta}$-adrenoceptor blocker and the yohimbine;${\alpha}_2$-selective adrenoceptor blocker from physiograph. 1. The relaxation response induced by norepinephrine was the concentration of $10^{-6}$ M at first and maximum response was concentration of $10^{-4}$M. 2. The relaxation response induced by norepinephrine was not effected by the pretreatment with non-selective $\alpha$-adrenoceptor blocker, phentolanune ($10^{-6}$ M) but was completely blocked by the pretreatment with ${\beta}$-adrenoceptor blocker, propranolol($10^{-6}$ M). 3. The contractile response induced by electrical transmural nerve stimulation(20V, 10Hz, 0.5msec, 20sec ) was inhibited by the pretreatment with non-selective ${\alpha}$-adrenoceptor blocker, phentolamine($10^{-6}$ M) but was not inhibited and rather increased by the pretreatment ${\beta}$-adrenoceptor blocker, propranolol($10^{-6}$ M), and was not approximately effected by the pretreatment with ${\alpha}_2$-adrenoceptor blocker, yohimbine($10^{-6}$ M). These finding suggest that it was excitatory action by ${\alpha}_1$-adrenergic nerve and inhibitory action by ${\alpha}_2$-adrenergic, ${\beta}$-adrenergic nerve on uterine smooth muscle of the pig.

  • In this paper, we propose a newly developed selective reset waveform of a ac PDP using the wide erase pulse technique with the control of address bias voltage. Although it is generally understood that the wide pulse erasing methode shows the narrow driving margin in an opposite discharge type ac PDP, we could obtain a moderate driving margin in a 3-electrode surface discharge type ac PDP. The obtained driving margin shows a strong dependency on the sustain voltage and the address bias voltage. The lower the sustain and the address bias voltage, the wider the driving margin. The pulse width of the proposed waveform is only $10{\mu}s$, which gives additional time to the sustain period, hence increases the brightness. The brightness and contrast ratio increase about 20% together comparing to the conventional ramp type selective reset waveform with the driving scheme of 10 subfield ADS method. The driving margin was measured with the line by line addressed pattern on the white test panel of 2inch diagonal size and the discharge gas was Ne+Xe4%, 400torr.

  • This paper presents the theoretical natural frequencies of out-of-plane deformable ring based on the variables such as out-of-plane deflection, torsional rotation and shear rotation. Based on the same variables, a finite element eigen analysis is carried out by using the $C^0$-continuous, isoparametric element which has three nodes per element and three degrees-of-freedom at each node. Numerical experiments are peformed to find the integration scheme which produces accurate natural frequencies, natural modes and correct rigid body motion. The uniformly reduced integration and the selective reduced integration give more accurate numerical frequencies than the uniformly full integration, but the uniformly reduced integration produces incorrect rigid body motion while selective reduced integration does correct one. Therefore, the ring element based on the three variables which employes selective reduced integration is recommended to avoid spurious modes, to alleviate the error due to shear locking and to produce correct rigid body motion, simultaneously.

  • With the rapid interest in Geographic Information System (GIS) contents, a large volume of valuable GIS dataset has been distributed illegally by pirates, hackers, or unauthorized users. Therefore the problem focus on how to protect the copyright of GIS vector map data for storage and transmission. But GIS vector map data is very large and current data encryption techniques often encrypt all components of data. That means we have encrypted large amount of data lead to the long encrypting time and high complexity computation. This paper presents the selective encryption scheme using hybrid transform for GIS vector map data protection to store, transmit or distribute to authorized users. In proposed scheme, polylines and polygons in vector map are targets of selective encryption. We select the significant objects in polyline/polygon layer, and then they are encrypted by the key sets generated by using Chaotic map before changing them in DWT, DFT domain. Experimental results verified the proposed algorithm effectively and error in decryption is approximately zero.

  • A potentiometric biosensor employing a CO3-2 ion-selective electrode(ISE) and malic enzyme immobilization in al flow injection analysis (FIA) system was constructed. Analytical parameters were optimized for L-malate determination . The CO3-2 -ISE-FIA system was composed of a pump, an injector, a malic enzyme (EC1.1.1.40) reactor, a CO3-2 ion-selective electrode, a pH/mV meter and a recorder. Cofactor NADP was also injected with substrate for theenzyme reaction into the system. Optimized analytical parameters for L-malate determination in the CO3-2 ISE-FIA system were as follows ; flow rate, 14.5ml/hr ; sample injection volume, 100ul; enzyme loading in the reactor, 20 units ; length of the enzyme reactor , 7 cm ; tubing length form the enzyme reactor to the detector as a geometric factor in FIA, 15 cm . The response time for measuring the entire L-malate concentration range (10-2 ~10-5 mol/L ; 4 injections )was <15minutes . In this CO3-2 -ISE-FIA system, the potential differences due to th eformation of CO3-2 by the reaction of malic enzyme on L-malate were correlated to L-malate concentration in the range of 10-2 ~10-5mol/L ; the detection limit was 10-5 mol/L. This potentionmetric CO3-2 ISE--FIA system was found to be useful for L-malate measurement.

  • Glucose deprivation and hypoxia frequently occur in solid tumor cells, including pancreatic cancer cells. Glucose deprivation activates the unfolded protein response (UPR) and causes the up-regulation of glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78). Induction of GRP78 has been shown to protect cancer cells. Therefore, shutting down of GRP78 expression may be a novel strategy in anticancer drug development. Based on this understanding, a screening system established for anticancer agents that exhibit selective cytotoxicity on pancreatic cancer cells under glucose-deprived conditions. To test this hypothesis, the new compounds isolated, pancastatin A (PST-A) and B (PST-B), from Ponciri Fructus. PST-A and B were identified as glabretal triterpenoid moieties by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic methods. PST-A and B suppressed the accumulation of the UPR hallmark gene, GRP78, during glucose deprivation. Furthermore, PST-A and B showed selective cytotoxicity on PANC-1 pancreatic cancer cells under glucose deprivation. Interestingly, PST-A and B had no effect on these cells under normal growth conditions. Our results suggest that PST-A and B act as novel therapeutic agents to induce selective cell death in glucose-deprived pancreatic cancer cells.

  • Vancomycin inhibited the growth of the most large intestinal bacteria other than Bacteroides sp. and E. coli. Since Bacteroides are predominant compared with E. coli in the large intestinal tract of the adult, vancomycin-added medium(VA) was shown to be an effective selective medium for Bacteroides. VA showed comparable or better selectivity for Bacteroides sp. to NBGT which is being used currently as a most frequently used selective medium for Bacteroides in Japan.

  • Silicone rubber-based sodium-selective membranes are developed for solid-state ion sensors. It was shown that the potetiometric performance of SR-based membranes are greatly dependent on the type of neutral carriers employed; among the three ionophores, N,N,N',N'-tetracyclohexyl-1,2-phenylenedioxydiacetamide (ETH 2120), bis[(12-crown-4)methyl]dodecylmethylmalonate (D12C4DMM) and monensin methyl ester (MME), examined, only ETH 2120 was compatible with the SR-based matrix. Addition of about 20 wt% plasticizer to the SR-based matrix provided the resulting membranes with potentiometric properties essentially equivalent to those of the corresponding PVC-based membranes. Owing to the strong adhesive strength of SR-based membranes, the CWEs coated \vith those membranes exhibited long lifetime with conventional electrode-like performance. Blending of PU into the SR matrix increased the lifetime of CWEs from two weeks to one month.

  • Ag- and Pd-loaded $SnO_2$ nanowire network sensors were prepared by the growth of $SnO_2$ nanowires via thermal evaporation, the coating of slurry containing $SnO_2$ nanowires, and dropping of a droplet containing Ag or Pd nanoparticles, and subsequent heat treatment. All the pristine, Pd-loaded and Ag-loaded $SnO_2$ nanowire networks showed the selective detection of $C_2H_5OH$ with low cross-responses to CO, $H_2$, $C_3H_8$, and $NH_3$. However, the relative gas responses and gas selectivity depended closely on the catalyst loading. The loading of Pd enhanced the responses($R_a/R_g$: $R_a$: resistance in air, $R_g$: resistance in gas) to CO and $H_2$ significantly, while it slightly deteriorated the response to $C_2H_5OH$. In contrast, a 3.1-fold enhancement was observed in the response to 100 ppm $C_2H_5OH$ by loading of Ag onto $SnO_2$ nanowire networks. The role of Ag catalysts in the highly sensitive and selective detection of $C_2H_5OH$ is discussed.
