  • This paper is to study the various diagnostic measures for detecting outliers and influential cases in linear regression. In this paper we review the most common diagnostic measures and show the inter-relationships the exist among them. Based on the PRESS(Predicted REsidual Sum of Squares ) offered by Allen(1974) as a criterion for model selection, we propose three measures for detecting outliers and influential cases. Examples are given illustrating various diagnostic measures including Proposed measures.

  • It is often the case that one wants to estimate parameters of the distribution which follows certain parametric model, while the dta are contaminated. it is well known that the maximum likelihood estimators are not robust to contamination. Basuet al.(1998) proposed a robust method called the minimum density power divergence estimation. In this paper, we investigate data-driven selection of the tuning parameter $\alpha$ in the minimum density power divergence estimation. A criterion is proposed and its performance is studied through the simulation. The simulation includes three cases of estimation problem.

  • The WiMedia Alliance has specified a Distributed Medium Access Control (D-MAC) protocol based on UWB for high speed wireless home networks and WPANs. In this paper, firstly, a time slot reservation protocol for relay transmission is proposed. Furthermore, we propose a novel relay node selection algorithm adaptive to current UWB link transmission rate. The proposed relay node selection algorithm has compatibility with current WiMedia D-MAC standard and is executed at each device according to the SoQ as a QoS criterion.

  • We propose a method for selection of input-output factors in DEA. It is designed to select better combinations of input-output factors that are well suited for evaluating substantial performance of DMUs. Several selected DEA models with different input-output factors combinations are evaluated, and the relationship between the computed efficiency scores and a single performance criterion of DMUs is investigated using decision tree. Based on the results of decision tree analysis, a relatively better DEA model can be chosen, which is expected to well represent the true performance of DMUs. We illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method by applying it to the efficiency evaluation of 101 listed companies in steel and metal industry.

Selection of Optimal Values in Spatial Estimation of Environmental Variables using Geostatistical Simulation and Loss Functions

  • Spatial estimation of environmental variables has been regarded as an important preliminary procedure for decision-making. A minimum variance criterion, which has often been adopted in traditional kriging algorithms, does not always guarantee the optimal estimates for subsequent decision-making processes. In this paper, a geostatistical framework is illustrated that consists of uncertainty modeling via stochastic simulation and risk modeling based on loss functions for the selection of optimal estimates. Loss functions that quantify the impact of choosing any estimate different from the unknown true value are linked to geostatistical simulation. A hybrid loss function is especially presented to account for the different impact of over- and underestimation of different land-use types. The loss function-specific estimates that minimize the expected loss are chosen as optimal estimates. The applicability of the geostatistical framework is demonstrated and discussed through a case study of copper mapping.

  • The purpose of this paper is an application of AHP in the problem of exportable nuclear technology selection based on data gathered from nuclear experts. In this paper, the decision criteria for evaluating export competitiveness of nuclear technologies are identified and the hierarchical structure of decision making process is developed systematically. Subsequently the values of weights for relative importance among decision criteria are derived using AHP methodology, and the score of importance of nuclear technologies with respect to each criterion is evaluated. Finally the score indicating exportability of each nuclear technology is quantified in order to prioritize then. We discuss implications of our results with a viewpoint of national nuclear technology policy.

  • In this paper, it is suggested that the selection method of optimal parameter of power system stabilizer(PSS) with robustness in low frequency oscillation for power system using Real Variable Elitism Genetc Algorithm(RVEGA). The optimal parameters were selected in the case of power system stabilizer with one lead compensator, and two lead compensator. Also, the frequency responses characteristic of PSS, the system eigenvalues criterion and the dynamic characteristic were considered in the normal load and the heavy load, which proved usefulness of RVEGA compare with Yu's compensator design theory.

  • A sensor placement technique to identify structural parameter was developed. Experimental results must be acquired to identify unknown dynamic characteristics of a targeting structure for the comparison between analytical model and real structure. If the experimental environment was not equipped itself properly, it can be happened that some valuable information are distorted or ill-condition can be occurred. In this work the index to determine exciting points was derived from the criterion of maximizing parameter sensitivity matrix and that to choose measurement points was from that of preserving the invariant of sensitivity matrix. This idea was applied to a compressor hull structure to verify its performance. The result shows that the selection of measurement and excitation points using suggested criteria improve the ill-conditioning problem of inverse type problems such , as model updating.

A Bayesian Test for Simple Tree Ordered Alternative using Intrinsic Priors

  • In Bayesian model selection or testing problems, one cannot utilize standard or default noninformative priors, since these priors are typically improper and are defined only up to arbitrary constants. The resulting Bayes factors are not well defined. A recently proposed model selection criterion, the intrinsic Bayes factor overcomes such problems by using a part of the sample as a training sample to get a proper posterior and then use the posterior as the prior for the remaining observations to compute the Bayes factor. Surprisingly, such Bayes factor can also be computed directly from the full sample by some proper priors, namely intrinsic priors. The present paper explains how to derive intrinsic priors for simple tree ordered exponential means. Some numerical results are also provided to support theoretical results and compare with classical methods.
