In this study, time-dependent distributions of temperature and stresses, in the box-column welded from ultra thick plates with center segregation, has been analyzed by the commercial finite element package SYSWELD+, for several types and angles of groove. The major points of investigation are the optimum type and angle of groove that minimize weld stress specially at the center segregation, as well as temperature distribution, residual stresses and changes in the mechanical properties. The results can be summarized as follows; 1) Generally the thermal cycle at the root of groove exhibits relatively rapid cooling pattern, however, most of the other part weldment have a slow cooling pattern in all groove types. 2) Most of the micro-structures of weldment are composed of ferrite and pearlite, meanwhile we could find martensite and bainite locally a the root of the groove. 3) Optimum groove type for high heat input welding of box-column corner is a double groove type, and the optimum angle for the groove is 30~$45^{\circ}$ that minimize deformation and weld stress at the center segregation.
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the settlement of lightweight coarse aggregate of self-compacting lightweight concrete (SCLC) after placement of concrete on its final position. To investigate this issue, sixteen samples of concrete mixes were made. The water to cementitious materials ratios of the mixes were 0.35 and 0.4. In addition to the workability tests of self-compacting concrete (SCC) such as slump flow, V-funnel and L-box tests, a laboratory experiment was made to examine the segregation of lightweight coarse aggregate in concrete. Because of the difficulties of this test, the image processing technique of MATLAB software was used to check the segregation above too. Moreover, the fuzzy logic technique of MATLAB software was utilized to improve the clarity of the borders between the coarse aggregate and the paste of the mixtures. At the end, the results of segregation tests and software analyses are given and the accuracy of the software analyses is evaluated. It is worth noting that the minimum and maximum differences between the results of laboratory tests and software analyses were 1.2% and 9.19% respectively. It means, the results of image processing technique looks exact enough for estimating the segregation of lightweight coarse aggregate in SCLC.

Segregation algorithms of the incompressible Wavier-Stokes equations using P1P1/P2P1 finite element formulation are newly proposed. P1P1 formulation allocates velocity and pressure at the same nodes, while P2P1 formulation allocates pressure only at the vertex nodes and velocity at both the vertex and the midpoint nodes. For a comparison of both the elapsed time and the accuracy between the two methods, they have been applied to the well-known benchmark problems. The three cases chosen are the two-dimensional steady and unsteady flows around a fixed cylinder, decaying vortex, and impinging slot jet. It is shown that the proposed P2P1 semi-segregation algorithm performs better than the conventional P1P1 segregation algorithm in terms of both accuracy and computation time.

The surface segregation and surface order near the order-disorder phase transition of FeCo alloy was studied through Monte Carlo simulation of an Ising type model Hamiltonian. The results showed that the proper choice of Hamiltonian parameters could reproduce the recent observation of surface order above the transition temperature and that the field term played dominant role.
Recently, in the field of automobile industry, to solve the problem of reducing the weight of automobile for the improvement of fuel efficiency and the protection of environment, the aluminum alloy parts have been substituted for the steel parts. However, the aluminum alloy does not have as good mechanical property as the steel part. To improve the mechanical property, the semi-solid die casting process is performed to make automobile parts. In the fabrication of semisolid material the control of the liquid segregation is very important to improve the material properties of aluminum alloy. In the present paper we examine the influence of the liquid segregation by the injection conditions in the semi-solid die casting has been investigated.

Semi-solid forming is the process of stirring alloy during solidification, making the mixture of liquid and solid, solidifying it, reheating it to the solid-liquid coexistent temperature, and then injecting this semi solid slurry into dies. In the semi-solid die casting process, it is very important to find out the correlation of injection condition, microstructure and mechanical properties. Especially, an improper injection condition is the main cause of liquid segregation and non-homogeneous mechanical properties due to the difference of solid fraction according to the position of the products. To ensure the database requisite to the semi-solid die casting product, it is essential to acquire the mechanical properties considering liquid segregation to the injection condition. In this study, the effect of injection condition on liquid segregation, formability, microstructure and mechanical properties in a thin product was investigated.

Usually the flowing concrete manufactured upon normal-mixed base concrete would segregate due to the less of fine particle content. In the previous studies, a new type admixture(liquid segregation reducing type superplasticizer) has been developed to prevent such segregation without modification of base concrete mixture. In this study, the tests are performed in laboratory to evaluate the admixture by analyzing the properties of flowing concrete with different water to cement ratios, so that it could be used in the fields. According to the results, this kind of superplasticizer could improve the fluidity of concrete without causing segregation. However, it seems to be more desirable of the superplasticizer could be adjusted, before it is put into the practical use, not to cause some other problems such as rapid rate of slump and air loss and retarding of setting time.
The effect of cooling rate on the solidification microstructure and segregation behavior of 7075 and 7050 aluminum alloy was investigated. Samples were solidified with cooling rates from 0.3 to $17^{\circ}K/sec$. Using the cooling curves of each sample, liquidus, eutectic and intermetallic reaction temperatures were estimated. The microstructures were characterized in terms of dendrite arm spacing and eutectic volume fraction. The segregation behavior of each alloying element of these alloys in various cooling rates was discussed.
The homogeneous distribution of solid region without liquid segregation is important in terms of high quality component during thixoforming process. In closed die semi-solid forging process, liquid segregation is strongly affected by injection velocity than solid fraction because the material has to travel relatively long distance to fill the cavity through a narrow gate. The designed die by computer simulation data was used to thixoforging process. The thixoforming velocity to prediction the liquid segregation had been determined with strain rate associated with multistage velocity control during compression test of semi-solid material. The optimal forging velocity and die temperature were investigated to produce the near-net-shape compressor component. The mechanical properties of thixoformed component were tested with various die and material temperatures before and after heat treatment.

Segregation of binary particle systems in a horizontally gyrated bed has been experimentally studied to recover the heavy metals from municipal waste incineration (MWI) ash. Differences in density and size had less effect on segregation. Effective segregation took place under the centrifugal effect of 1 or less for any particle size ratio. Zn, Cu and Pb were concentrated in the upper side of bed by the horizontal vibration. However, there was less change in concentration for other metals such as Mg, Al and Fe etc. The separation system with the horizontal gyrating separator proved to be an effective method for the pretreatment of recovering Zn, Cu and Pb from incineration residues.
