In this paper an extension to an original active shape model(ASM) for facial feature extraction is presented. The original ASM suffers from poor shape alignment by aligning the shape model to a new instant of the object in a given image using a simple similarity transformation. It exploits only informations such as scale, rotation and shift in horizontal and vertical directions, which does not cope effectively with the complex pose variation. To solve the problem, new shape alignment with 6 degrees of freedom is derived, which corresponds to an affine transformation. Another extension is to speed up the calculation of the Mahalanobis distance for 2-D profiles by trimming the profile covariance matrices. Extensive experiment is conducted with several images of varying poses to check the performance of the proposed method to segment the human faces.

In this paper, we propose a data model and a retrieval method for content-based video query After partitioning a video into frame sets of same length which is called video-window, each video-window can be mapped to a point in a multidimensional space. A video can be represented a trajectory by connection of neighboring video-window in a multidimensional space. The similarity between two video-windows is defined as the euclidean distance of two points in multidimensional space, and the similarity between two video segments of arbitrary length is obtained by comparing corresponding trajectory. A new retrieval method with filtering and refinement step if developed, which return correct results and makes retrieval speed increase by 4.7 times approximately in comparison to a method without filtering and refinement step.
This research deals with the behavior of Composite Box Girder Bridges (CBGBs) subjected to environmental effects such as solar radiation, atmospheric temperature, and wind speed. It is based on temperature and thermal stress results, which were recorded hourly from a full-scale experimental CBGB segment and Finite Element (FE) thermal analysis. The Hemi-cube method was adopted to achieve the accuracy in temperature distributions and variations in a composition system during the daily environmental variations. Analytical findings were compared with the experimental measurements, and a good agreement was found. On the other hand, parametric investigations are carried out to investigate the effect of the cross-section geometry and orientation of the longitudinal axis of CBGB on the thermal response and stress distributions. Based upon individual parametric investigations, some remarks related to the thermal loading parameters were submitted. Additionally, some observations about the CBGB configurations were identified, which must be taken into account in the design process. Finally, this research indicates that the design temperature distribution with a uniform differential between the concrete slab and the steel girder is inappropriate for describing the thermal impacts in design objective.

Corner detection and feature extraction are essential aspects of computer vision problems such as object recognition and tracking. Feature detectors such as Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) yields high quality features but computationally intensive for use in real-time applications. The Features from Accelerated Segment Test (FAST) detector provides faster feature computation by extracting only corner information in recognising an object. In this paper we have analyzed the efficient object detection algorithms with respect to efficiency, quality and robustness by comparing characteristics of image detectors for corner detector and feature extractors. The simulated result shows that compared to conventional SIFT algorithm, the object recognition system based on the FAST corner detector yields increased speed and low performance degradation. The average time to find keypoints in SIFT method is about 0.116 seconds for extracting 2169 keypoints. Similarly the average time to find corner points was 0.651 seconds for detecting 1714 keypoints in FAST methods at threshold 30. Thus the FAST method detects corner points faster with better quality images for object recognition.
This paper presents a rigid-plastic finite element method to handle the frictional contact problem between two deformable bodies experiencing large deformation. The variational formulation combined with incremental quasi-static model is employed for treating the contact boundary condition. The frictional behavior of the model obeys Coulomb's law of friction. The proposed contact algorithms are classified into two categories, one for searching contacting nodes and the other for calculating contact forces at the contact surface. A slave node and master contact segment are defined using the geometric condition of finite elements on the contact interface. The penalty parameter is used to limit the penetration between contacting bodies, and the finite elements are coupled with contact boundary elements.us gates and cavity thicknesses. Through this study we have observed that the jetting is related to the die swell of material. This means that the jotting is strongly affected by the elastic flow property rather than the viscous flow property in viscoelastic characteristics of molten polymer. Different resins have different elastic properties, and elastic flow behavior depends on the shear rate of flow, i.e. injection speed. Large die swell would eliminate jetting however, the retardation of die swell would stimulate jetting. In the point of mole design, reducing the thickness ratio of cavity to gate can reduce or eliminate jetting regardless of amount of elasticity of polymer melt.

We are developing a biomimetic robot based on the Sea Lamprey. The robot consists of a cylindrical electronics bay propelled by an undulatory body axis. Shape memory alloy (SMA) actuators generate propagating flexion waves in five undulatory segments of a polyurethane strip. The behavior of the robot is controlled by an electronic nervous system (ENS) composed of networks of discrete-time map-based neurons and synapses that execute on a digital signal processing chip. Motor neuron action potentials gate power transistors that apply current to the SMA actuators. The ENS consists of a set of segmental central pattern generators (CPGs), modulated by layered command and coordinating neuron networks, that integrate input from exteroceptive sensors including a compass, accelerometers, inclinometers and a short baseline sonar array (SBA). The CPGs instantiate the 3-element hemi-segmental network model established from physiological studies. Anterior and posterior propagating pathways between CPGs mediate intersegmental coordination to generate flexion waves for forward and backward swimming. The command network mediates layered exteroceptive reflexes for homing, primary orientation, and impediment compensation. The SBA allows homing on a sonar beacon by indicating deviations in azimuth and inclination. Inclinometers actuate a bending segment between the hull and undulator to allow climb and dive. Accelerometers can distinguish collisions from impediment to allow compensatory reflexes. Modulatory commands mediate speed control and turning. A SBA communications interface is being developed to allow supervised reactive autonomy.

CBTC(Communication Based Train Control) System can improve train operation efficiency by realizing moving block system which makes a continuous train interval control in accordance with the position and speed of train. Adopting radio transmission to make a continuous detection of train position and transmit the control data from the ground to a train, CBTC needs dedicated train operation and control algorithm which should be quite different from the conventional track-circuit-based train control system. This paper provides a train operation display and control algorithm for CBTC system in making train interval control, train route control and train supervision. Signalling pattern diagram is devised to analyze the train interval control mechanism of moving block system, and interlocking logic is devised to represent the train route control mechanism of moving block system. For train supervision, train occupation status on railway are displayed by using the segment which virtually divide the whole railway. The proposed method has been successfully applied to the development of CBTC system for the standardized AGT(automatic guided transit) which is under construction now in Korea, and also can be applied to any other CBTC system.
Due to the travelling of the train with high speed the period of maintenance activities of the ballasted track is coming to be short, and more from the residential area of the ballasted track tunnel circumference the civil appeal is increasing with railroad vibration problem. To reduce the vibration problem and a maintenance cost establishes the ballast mat in the tunnel within part segment. In this study, to estimate the vibration reduction effect of the ballast mat we have done a comparative analysis with the vibration field test by the transit train by at the ballasted track with ballast mat and the standard ballasted track without vibration protection in tunnel.

PSC(Prestressed Concrete) box girder bridges have been widely applied in Korea. A number of these bridges have been built by the segmental construction method in the longitudinal direction and(or) vertically along the cross-sectional depth with MSS(Moving Scaffolding System). An actual 2-span continuous PSC box girder bridge of Kyeongbu high speed railway was selected and instrumented with 96 vibrating wire embedded type strain gauges and 2 thermocouples. The long-term behavior of the bridge was monitored through two major points located at mid-span of the first span and at the internal support. Data collection started just after the casting of the first segment (U section). Concrete strain and temperature data were gathered regularly by a data logger (CR10) during 600 days under and after construction. According to this measurement, the parabolic longitudinal strain distribution in the top slab at mid-span is shown. And also, the same distribution at the interior support is shown. The compressive strains at the cantilever region are larger than at the web position and the internal part in the top slab. Strain difference largely happened during the early construction period.
