The Effects of Maintained Muscle Contraction of Abdominal and Pelvic Floor Muscles on 3D Pelvic Stability in Individuals with Chronic Low Back Pain During Gait

  • PURPOSE: This study was designed to investigate the effects of keeping contraction of abdominal and pelvic floor muscles on 3D pelvic stability in individuals with nonspecific chronic low back pain (CLBP) during normal speed walking. METHODS: The subjects were 20 adults with CLBP deformity and had moderate pain intensity of the visual analog scale. A three-dimensional camera capture system was used to collect kinematic pelvic motion data with and without contraction of the abdominal and pelvic floor muscles during gait. The subjects were asked to walk on a walkway in the lab room and they were attached 40 reflective markers to their pelvic segment and lower extremities. A Visual3D Professional V6 program and Vicon Nexus software were used to analyze 3D pelvic kinematic data. RESULTS: There were significant differences between with and without contraction of the abdominal and pelvic floor muscles of the pelvic depression and the total pelvic motion in coronal plane during gait (p < .05). However, there were no significant differences in any of the maximal motion of the pelvic segment in sagittal and transverse motion plane according to the different muscle contraction conditions (p > .05). CONCLUSION: The results of this study suggest that maintaining co-contraction of the abdominal and pelvic floor muscles in individuals with CLBP increased pelvic stability and contributed to preventing excessive pelvic movements during gait.

  • 일반적으로 도로시설의 기본구간에 대한 서비스수준(LOS)의 효과척도로 밀도가 사용되지만, 도로시설의 현장에서 관측된 관측밀도와 교통특성자료로부터 산정된 산정밀도사이에는 오차가 발생할 수 있기 때문에 도로시설의 서비스수준을 제대로 나타낼 수가 없다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 연구대상 도시고속도로의 본선구간 상에 관측기기를 설치하여 실시간의 교통특성 자료(교통량, 속도, 점유율, 차두시간, 차두거리 등)를 수집 조사하고, 수집 조사된 교통특성자료의 상호관계로부터 연구대상 기본구간 상의 최대 교통류율을 비교 분석하며, 비교 분석된 최대 교통류율을 중심으로 각 서비스수준별 점유율과 v/c비율사이의 관계에 기초하여 도시고속도로의 기본구간에서 서비스수준의 평가기준을 산정 평가하고자 하는데 있다.

Real-time semantic segmentation of gastric intestinal metaplasia using a deep learning approach

  • Background/Aims: Previous artificial intelligence (AI) models attempting to segment gastric intestinal metaplasia (GIM) areas have failed to be deployed in real-time endoscopy due to their slow inference speeds. Here, we propose a new GIM segmentation AI model with inference speeds faster than 25 frames per second that maintains a high level of accuracy. Methods: Investigators from Chulalongkorn University obtained 802 histological-proven GIM images for AI model training. Four strategies were proposed to improve the model accuracy. First, transfer learning was employed to the public colon datasets. Second, an image preprocessing technique contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization was employed to produce clearer GIM areas. Third, data augmentation was applied for a more robust model. Lastly, the bilateral segmentation network model was applied to segment GIM areas in real time. The results were analyzed using different validity values. Results: From the internal test, our AI model achieved an inference speed of 31.53 frames per second. GIM detection showed sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive, negative predictive, accuracy, and mean intersection over union in GIM segmentation values of 93%, 80%, 82%, 92%, 87%, and 57%, respectively. Conclusions: The bilateral segmentation network combined with transfer learning, contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization, and data augmentation can provide high sensitivity and good accuracy for GIM detection and segmentation.

차로속도역전현상을 고려한 연속류 도로의 차로별 주행 속도 특성 분석 (Lane-wise Travel Speed Characteristics Analysis in Uninterrupted Flow Considering Lane-wise Speed Reversal)

  • 본 연구에서는 차로별 주행 궤적 데이터를 기반으로 차로속도역전현상이라는 개념을 이용하여 연속류 도로의 차로별 교통류 특성을 분석하였다. 1차로의 주행속도가 다른 차로보다 느린 경우를 차로속도역전현상이라고 정의하고, 이를 수식화하였다. 서울외곽순환고속도로(자유로IC~장수IC, 총 18.7km)를 대상으로 주중 5일(월~금) 동안의 오전 첨두시간대 차로별 주행 궤적 자료를 활용하여 거시적 측면과 미시적 측면에서 차로속도역전현상을 분석하였다. 실험구간 전체를 대상으로 차로별 주행속도를 비교한 거시적인 측면의 결과에서는 차로속도역전현상이 발생하지 않았으나, 실험구간을 세분화한 후 단위구간별 주행속도를 이용하여 미시적인 분석을 수행한 결과는 거시적인 분석 결과와 다르게 차로속도역전현상이 많이 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 보다 혼잡한 구간에서 차로속도역전현상이 두드러지게 나타났고, 고속도로 기본구간보다는 연결로 접속부 구간에서 차로속도현상의 강도가 높게 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 머지않아 도래할 차로 교통정보 시대를 대비하여 현재의 교통정보 서비스 링크 단위의 적정성 판단, 차로 기반의 최적 경로 안내 서비스의 방향 결정 등에 기초적인 데이터로 활용이 가능하다.

  • The study examines the similarities of competitive strategy between fashion industry and high-tech industry through a case study of a Japanese maker. From the study, some implications are drawn for the Korean fashion industry. It is hoped that this, will help towards establishing a suitable competitive strategy for firms in this industry. In the fashion industry, the product life cycle is so short as to prompt a new product obsolete too quickly, and the extent of product differentiation is remarkably extensive compared to any other industry. Generally speaking, firms in this industry focus more of their resources on product development and marketing rattler than on production and they attempt to maneuver the speed when they are required to enhance their competitive edge. This is enabled through being, as one might expect, information- and technology- intensive as are high-tech industries. In this sense, that of the competitive strategy of a firm in fashion industry to be similar to high-tech industry. The Japanese firm Y has transformed itself a leading firm in fashion uniform segment. The firm could achieve this status by integrating each function needed for creating customer*s value, that is, product development, production and marketing within one Quick Response System. For this purpose, Y introduced a bundle of high-tech communication systems such as SPD, SDS, ATOM, NICS and so on. In this sense it can be said that Y was aware of what sort of competitive strategy was required in the industry. Implications for Korean firms is that, first, the magnitude of understanding the industry specific factors in establishing competitive strategy in the fashion industry, are speed, flexibility and systematic integration supported by high technology which are characteristic of high-tech industries. Secondly, as can be seen in the fact that Y emphasized logistics in its technological transformation, the significance of logistics control is a key to manipulating speed and flexibility in the industry. To sum up, those who have insight into above findings will be likely to keep their competitiveness in the industry not only in the Korean market but also in global market in the near future.

  • 본 논문은 장래 도입되는 KTX2 고속차량을 이용한 중련편성 운영계획 최적화를 위한 방법론 제시를 목적으로 한다. 중련편성 운영계획 최적화를 위한 수리적 모형을 제시하고, 제안된 수리적 모형의 적용방안을 제시한다. 특히 확률적 수요를 고려한 모형을 수립하여, 계획수립 단계에서 수요의 확률적 요소를 보다 현실적으로 반영하고, 모형내에서 좌석 서비스 수준을 직접 조정할 수 있다.

Development of safety-Based Guidelines for Cost-Effective Utility Pole Treatment along Highway Rights-of-Way

  • This study was conducted to develop a methodology to predict utility pole accident rates and to evaluate cost-effectiveness for safety improvement for utility pole accidents. The utility pole accident rate prediction model was based on the encroachment rate approach introduced in the Transportation Research Board Special Report 214. The utility pole accident rate on a section of highway depends on the roadside encroachment rate and the lateral extent of encroachment. The encroachment rate is influenced by the horizontal and vertical alignment of the highway as well as traffic volume and mean speed. The lateral extent of encroachment is affected by the horizontal and vertical alignment, the mean speed and the roadside slope. An analytical method to generate the probability distribution function for the lateral extent of encroachment was developed for six kinds of encroachment types by the horizontal alignment and encroachment direction. The encroachment rate was calibrated with the information on highway and roadside conditions and the utility pole accident records collected on the sections of 55mph speed limit of the State Trunk Highway 12 in Wisconsin. The encroachment rate on a tangent segment was calibrated as a function of traffic volume with the actual average utility pole accident rates by traffic volume strategies. The adjustment factors for horizontal and vertical alignment were then derived by comparing the actual average utility pole accident rates to the estimations from the model calibrated for tangent and level sections. A computerized benefit-cost analysis procedure was then developed as a means of evaluating alternative countermeasures. The program calculates the benefit-cost ratio and the percent of reduction of utility pole accidents resulting from the implementation of a safety improvement. This program can be used to develop safety improvement: alternatives for utility pole accidents when a predetermined performance level is specified.

  • 멀티미디어 데이터는 텍스트 형식의 정형 데이터와 영상이나 음성 등의 비정형 데이터가 혼재한 형테의 데이터이다. 멀티미디어 데이터는 대용량의 특성과 큰 전송 대역폭의 요구 및 실시간 처리 등을 그 특성으로 한다. 이러한 멀티미디어 데이터의특성 때문에 VOD서버나 연속 매체 저장 서버(Continuous media storage server)는 여러 개 의 디스트를 배열의 구조로 하는 디스크 스트라이프 구조나 디스크 배열((RAID) 구조를 하고 있다.디스트의 병렬 접근 시스템에서 세그먼트 인터리빙 방식으로 저정된 연속 매체를 고속 재생하는 경우, 특정 디스크에 부하의 편중 현상을 유발하여 다른 서비스의 질을 보장하지 못하는 경우가 발생한다. 디스크 부하의 편중은 연속 매체의 고속 재싱의 배속과 시스템이 보유하는 디스크의 수에 따라 부하 편중 정도를 달리 한다.본 논문은 디스크의 수와 연속 매체의 고속 재생의 정도와 관계없이 세그먼트의 접근 간격을 변화 함으로써 디스크의 부하 편중을 감소시키는 고속 재생 기법을 제안한다.

영상보간법을 이용한 디지털 치근단 방사선영상의 개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of Digital Periapical Images using Image Interpolation Methods)

  • Image resampling is of particular interest in digital radiology. When resampling an image to a new set of coordinate, there appears blocking artifacts and image changes. To enhance image quality, interpolation algorithms have been used. Resampling is used to increase the number of points in an image to improve its appearance for display. The process of interpolation is fitting a continuous function to the discrete points in the digital image. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of the seven interpolation functions when image resampling in digital periapical images. The images were obtained by Digora, CDR and scanning of Ektaspeed plus periapical radiograms on the dry skull and human subject. The subjects were exposed to intraoral X-ray machine at 60kVp and 70 kVp with exposure time varying between 0.01 and 0.50 second. To determine which interpolation method would provide the better image, seven functions were compared; (1) nearest neighbor (2) linear (3) non-linear (4) facet model (5) cubic convolution (6) cubic spline (7) gray segment expansion. And resampled images were compared in terms of SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) and MTF(Modulation Transfer Function) coefficient value. The obtained results were as follows ; 1. The highest SNR value(75.96dB) was obtained with cubic convolution method and the lowest SNR value(72.44dB) was obtained with facet model method among seven interpolation methods. 2. There were significant differences of SNR values among CDR, Digora and film scan(P<0.05). 3. There were significant differences of SNR values between 60kVp and 70kVp in seven interpolation methods. There were significant differences of SNR values between facet model method and those of the other methods at 60kVp(P<0.05), but there were not significant differences of SNR values among seven interpolation methods at 70kVp(P>0.05). 4. There were significant differences of MTF coefficient values between linear interpolation method and the other six interpolation methods (P< 0.05). 5. The speed of computation time was the fastest with nearest -neighbor method and the slowest with non-linear method. 6. The better image was obtained with cubic convolution, cubic spline and gray segment method in ROC analysis. 7. The better sharpness of edge was obtained with gray segment expansion method among seven interpolation methods.
