To define the effect of planting time on the flowering of the peanut varieties, Cheonyup banlip and 9 other varieties were planted seven times at 15 day interval from April 15. The days to flowering of all peanut varieties were shortened proportionately with delayed planting time. The significant negative correlation (r =-0.86**) was recognized between the shortening rate of the days to flowering by later planting time and the days to flowering of peanuts planted at standard seeding time. The short day treatment did not have any effect on the chance of the days to flowering of each variety. A significant negative correlation was recognized between the number of flowers and the days to flowering of the peanut varieties planted at standard seeding time.
Anammox (Anaerobic Ammonium Oxidation) bacteria is recently discovered microorganism which can oxidize ammonium to nitrogen gas in the presence of nitrite under anaerobic conditions. The anammox process can save an energy for nitrification and need not require a carbon source for denitrification, however, the start-up periods takes a long time more than several months due to the long doubling time (approximately 11 days). In order to find the effects of seeding microorganisms, hydrazine, and nitrite concentration on the enhancement of the anammox activity, five kinds of microorganisms were selected. Among the several kinds of seeding microorganisms, the granule from acclimated microorganisms treating high concentration of ammonia nitrogen (A-1) and sludge from piggery wastewater treatment plant (A-2) were found to have a high anammox activity. In the case of A-1, the maximum nitrogen conversion rate represented 0.4 mg N/L-hr, and the amount of nitrite utilization was high compared to those of other seeding microorganisms. The A-4 represented a higher nitrogen conversion rate to 0.7 mg N/L-hr although the ammonium concentration in the serum bottle was high as 200 mg/L. Meanwhile, the anaerobic granule from UASB reactor treating distillery wastewater showed a low anammox activity due to the denitrification by the remained carbon sources in the granule. Hydrazine, intermediate product in anammox reaction, enhanced the anammox activity by representing 1.4 times of nitrogen gas was produced in the test bottle than that of control, when 0.4 mM of $N_2H_4$ was added to serum bottle which contains 5 mM of nitrite. The high concentration of nitrite (10 mM) resulted in the decrease of the anammox activity by showing lower production of nitrogen gas compared to that of 5 mM addition of nitrite concentration. As a result of FISH (Florescence In-Situ Hybridization) experiment, the Amx820 probe showed a more than 13% of anammox bacteria in a granule (A-1).
Creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera L.) is one of the highest maintained turfgrass but often problematic especially for Kentucky bluegrass fairway. Mesotrione is one of selective herbicide that is firstly registered for corn (Zea mays L.) and provides preemergence and postemergence control of broadleaf and annual grassy weeds. Although mesotrione is effective to eradicate area contaminated by creeping bentgrass, protracted time is required to recover damaged area by rhizome extension of Kentucky bluegrass. Overseeding is typically used to fill bare or damaged areas using appropriate turf species to create a uniform turfgrass surface. The objectives of this study were to evaluate mesotrione and seeding rate effects to recover Kentucky bluegrass contaminated by creeping bentgrass. Six treatments consisted of three mesotrione rates and two Kentucky bluegrass seeding rates. The mesotrione rate were 0, 0.05 and 0.10 m $ml^{-2}$. Two seeding rate of to Kentucky bluegrass 'Midnight' were 15 and 30 g $m^{-2}$. Mesotrione application and Kentucky bluegrass overseeding at the same time is helpful to damage creeping bentgrass but not for establishment of Kentucky bluegrass to refill damaged area. To maximize mesotrione effects, temperature above $20^{\circ}C$ would be recommended based on this study.

Legumes are one of the largest families of crop plants and are widely consumed and produced for their nutritional and commercial benefits. Mung bean (Vigna radiata L.) is a legume crop that contains various functional compounds ; moreover, it has strong antioxidant properties and is becoming an increasingly important food crop. However, most previous studies on mung beans have focused on their primary metabolites. In this study, we investigated the composition and contents of phenolic compounds, fatty acids, soyasapogenol and tocopherol in mung beans cultivated in different regions and cultivated at different seeding dates. Material analysis was conducted using the following methods: LC-MS/MS, GC-FID and HPLC-ELSD. In total, 57 different samples were analyzed. Thirteen phenolic compounds were detected in mung beans. Of these, vitexin and isovitexin were the most abundant compounds, accounting for approximately 99% of phenolic compounds. The difference in phenol compounds according to the seeding dates of mung bean was not statistically significant. The total fatty acid content in beans was the highest in Pyeongchang. Significant differences in total fatty acid content were found according to the cultivation regions. Crops grown in Sohyeon and Dahyeon showed the highest soyasapogenol B content in the Suwon region, and these were the lowest in Jeonju. The total tocopherol content of beans cultivated in Dahyeon and Sohyeon was the lowest and highest in Pyeongchang. Soyasapogenol B and total tocopherol content were not significantly different according to seeding dates. This study was conducted to obtain basic data for the cultivation of mung beans with a high content of various functional materials in terms of regional specialization and optimal seeding time.
This study was conducted to suggest proper water management practices after and before broadcasting of rice seed on flooded paddy surface at reclaimed saline soil with two different saline levels in Gyehwado Substation of Honam Agricultural Research Institute (HARI) NICS, RDA for two years from 2004 to 2005. The stable seedling stand in low saline soil of 0.1% salinity was obtained by one time of water exchange after soil rotary Whereas in medium saline soilof 0.3% salinity, three times of water exchange was required for the stable seedling stand. Milled rice yield was not affected by frequency of water exchange in low saline soil, while it decreased sharply in one and two times of water exchange compared with three times of water exchange in medium saline soil. Irrigation water immediately after direct seeding increased the number of seeding stand in low saline soil. With the increase in the interval of water exchange after direct seeding, the milled rice yield decreased. Although the continuous water flowing showed the most number of seedling stand and was increased milled rice yield compared with the others interval of water exchange in medium saline soil, the number of seedling stand and milled rice wasn't significantly different up to exchange of two days interval compared with the continuous water flowing.
This study was conducted to determine the effects of the selection of an appropriate sowing method in on ginseng growth, and the results are as follows. SAS (semi-automatic sower), commonly used by direct seeding farms, provides fast operation speed but results in high labor cost, while (Hooper Seeder Sowing) offers fast operation speed and high germination rate, but leads to increased laborer's fatigue. Daily working area per sower was 6,611 ㎡ for a motor type, and the operation time to sow 3,305 ㎡ was 15 hours for broadcast planting, and 8 hours for SAS. The germination rate of 1-year-old ginseng according to direct seeding was 69.1% for the treatment plot under broadcast planting, followed by 66.4% and 67.3% for manual sower and hoop sower, respectively, and the germination rate of SAS was the lowest at 64.2%. In addition, there were no differences in shoot and root growth of 1-year-old ginseng among the sowing methods. Therefore, the sowing method can be chosen depending on the economic size of ginseng farmers. That broadcast sowing (BS) is appropriate for small scale farmers, while motor-driven seeder sowing (MDS) for direct seeding is more suitable for large scale farmers.

Seoritae with green cotyledons refers to Korean native black beans harvested when the frost falls because the maturity is late. It is one of the beans preferred by consumers because of its softness and high sugar content. Because of late maturity, if the agricultural work is delayed by weather or agricultural schedule in green cotyledon black soybean (Seoritae), it affects seriously harvest and yield of soybeans. The aim of this study was to investigate the marginal seeding period on June 30, July 10 and July 20 in Cheongju and Jecheon area in Korea to produce stable soybean yield. The yields of green cotyledon black soybean as seeding date in Cheongju area are as follows: Seolitae (Yeoncheon), Seoltae (Goesan) and Seoritae (Gogseong), which increased by 23%, 56%, 23% and 40%, respectively, compare to July 10th to June 30th. As soybean sowing is delayed, the quality of soybean seeds has decreased due to the increase of immature seeds and fungal damaged seeds. The contents of anthocyanin in Cheongju area a functional substance of soybeans, was high on July 20 for Heukcheong, on June 30 for Seolitae (Yeoncheon), on July 10 for Seoritae (Goesan). The yields of Heukcheong and Seolitae (Yeoncheon) in Jecheon area were increased by 5% and 17%, respectively, compare to July 10th to June 30th, while Seolite (Goesan) and Seolite (Gogseong) were high in yields on June 30th. Similarly in Cheongju area, as the sowing period is delayed, the number of immature and mold damaged seeds in Jecheon area increased. The contents of anthocyanin in Jecheon area was high on July 10 for Heukcheong, on June 30 for Seolitae (Yeoncheon) and Seolitae (Goesan). From the above results, Sowing marginal date of green cotyledon black soybeans (Seolitae) in Cheongju area increased 30% in sowing on July 10 and increased 2% in sowing on July 20 compared to June 30. And Sowing marginal date of green cotyledon black soybeans (Seolitae) in Jecheon area increased 2% in July 10 compared to June 30, and the yield decreased rapidly on July 20. We have identified the seeding time limit of green cotyledon black bean in Chungbuk province. It will be possible to provide a variety of crop selection after double cropping of farmers. And by knowing the yield and seed quality of soybean according to sowing date, farmers will observe appropriate sowing period of soybeans for high quality. From the viewpoint of consumers, functional substances of Seoritae will meet the desire for health.

To begin with, this study identified and reviewed the proximate compositions, quality and physicochemical characteristics of three Korean cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp.) cultivars grown in two different seedling periods. The proximate compositions of the cowpea showed significant differences according to three cultivars (Seowon, Yeonboon and Okdang) and two different seeding periods (5 June and 5 July). Through this lens, the lightness, redness and yellowness of the cowpea cultivars increased slightly during the 5 July cultivation compared to the 5 June cultivation. This brings us to understand that the water binding capacity, water solubility index, and swelling power were significantly different among the cultivars. In this case, the water binding capacity of the cowpea was 108.87~143.19%, and decreased during the 5 July cultivation compared to the 5 June cultivation. As shown, the total polyphenol and flavonoid contents of cowpea showed significant difference according to cultivars. In this case, the total polyphenol content of 5 June and 5 July cultivation on the Seowon 4.17 and 4.12 mg GAE/g, respectively. In these terms, the DPPH radical scavenging activity of cowpea showed a significant difference according to the cultivars, and the Yeonboon and Okdang increased slightly during 5 July cultivation. The ABTS radical scavenging activity of the cowpea showed significant difference according to the cultivars, and all cultivars decreased slightly during the 5 July cultivation. In other words, the phenol contents and radical scavenging activity differ measurable depending on the cultivars and seeding periods. Therefore, it is necessary to study the proper cultivar and seeding time considering the environment of the applicable cultivation area.

This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of weed control and phytotoxicity of oxyfluorfen using a transgenic rice line (CPPO06 event) resistant to protoporphyrinogen oxidase (Protox) inhibiting herbicides in the direct-seeding flooded rice. Five annual weeds including Echinochloa oryzoides and two perennial weeds were occurred in the test field. Oxyfluorfen at 120 g a.i. $ha^{-1}$ in the application timing of two days before sowing and 0 and five days after sowing showed more than 90% weed control value except for Juglans mandshurica. Total weed control value was more than 95% in any application timing indicating a highly effective herbicide in the direct-seeding flooded rice. When compared with untreated control, no visual injuries were detected at single and double dosage of oxyfluorfen. The agronomic characteristics and yield components of CPPO06 event was reasonable in any time of application in this study. Based on these data, oxyfluorfen application before and after sowing can be applied to provide effective weed management in the direct-seeding flooded field.

Experiments were conducted from 1994 to 1995 to understand the effects of the labor-saving seeding and planting density on growth and root yield of Astragalus membranaceus. The drilling seeder reduced seeding time than the hand seeding; It takes 3. 5hrs/l0a to seed by drilling seeder while 33. 0hrs/l0a by hand seeding, which labor reducing rate was 89. 4 %. Emergence rate in the drilling seeder was increased 17% than in the hand seeding, so the root yield were increased 23% to 136. lkg/l0a in using drilling seeder compared to 110. 3kg in hand seeding. On the effect of planting density on the growth characteristics plant height was long in dense planting and stem diameter was thick in spacious planting. Root diameter and dry root weight root per plant were decreased in dense planting and root yield was highest in optimum planting densities $(6\;row\;(15cm)\;{\times}\;10cm)$ in the harvest of 1 year old plants in Astragalus membranaceus. The gross profit were increased 23% to 1,933 thousand won per l0a in the drilling seeder compared to 1,566 thousand won in the hand seeding, also the managing costs were reduced 18% to 406 thousand won per l0a in the drilling seeder than 494 thousand won per l0a in the hand seeding.
