Utility of Surgical Resection in the Management of Metachronous Krukenberg's Tumors of Gastric Origin

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the prognostic factors and the significance of metastatectomy for Krukenberg's tumors of gastric origin.Materials and Methods: Among the patient who underwent gastric surgery from 1992 through 2005, 90 female patients with Krukenberg's tumors of gastric origin were identified. We retrospectively reviewed the clinicopathologic characteristics, prognostic factors, and treatments for primary gastric cancer. We also investigated the prognostic risk factors for the onset of metachronous Krukenberg's tumors and the survival time of patients who underwent an operation for metachronous Krukenberg's tumors. Results: The presence of a synchronous Krukenberg's tumor (mean survival time=17.6 months, P<0.01), peritoneal seeding (14.5 months, P<0.01), and non-curative resection (15.1 months, P<0.01), were statistically significant prognostic factors for survival time in female patients with gastric cancer. The stage of primary gastric cancer (P=0.049) and lymph node metastasis (P=0.011) were statistically significant risk factors for recurrence time of a metachronous Krukenberg's tumor. In the metachronous Krukenberg's tumor group (n=53), the mean survival time of the metastatectomy group (n=46, 43.2 months, P=0.012) was longer than that in the chemotherapy or conservative treatment groups (n=7 and 24 months, respectively). Metastatectomy, presense or abscence of residual tumor and extent of residual tumor were significant prognostic factors for survival time in female patients with metachronous Krukenberg's tumor of gastric origin. Conclusions: A close observation and evaluation with ultrasound or computed tomography is necessary in female patients with advanced gastric cancer to detect a metachronous Krukenberg's tumor as soon as possible. The surgeon must operate more aggressively in patients with metachronous Krukenberg's tumors.

  • 실내의 조명은 자연채광방식과 인공조명으로 나누어지는데 자연형 채광방식에서도 측창채광과 천창채광, 정 측창채광 그리고 반사 채광방식이 있다. 측창채광은 벽면에 대하여 일반적으로 연직인 창에 의한 채광을 말한다. 측창채광의 방향에 따라 실내조도는 영향을 많이 받는다. 따라서 본 연구는 측창채광의 동서남북의 방향에 따라 봄, 여름, 가을, 겨울의 계절에 따라 아침, 점심, 저녁시간대에 따라 변화되는 실내조도를 알아보았다. 실험방법은, 조명시뮬레이션 프로그램인 Lightscape V3.2를 사용하여 교실공간의 치수와 작업면의 높이를 가로 5.8[m], 세로 10.8[m], 높이 3[m], 작업면의 높이 0.75[m]로 정하였고, 각 시설물의 반사율[p]은 벽 80%, 창문 12%, 출입문 13%, 바닥 20%, 천장 85%로 지정하였으며 창문의 투과율은 88%로 설정하였다. 본 연구에서 측정하고자 하는 변수 값은 계절은 여름을 6월20일, 겨울은 1월20일 기준으로 하고 시간대는 09시, 13시, 18시로 하였으며 창측방위는 동, 서, 남, 북으로 정하였으며 계절과 시간은 가장 차이가 많이 나는 값을 선택하였다. 결론으로 창이 남쪽일 때 평균조도가 9,100[lx]로 가장 높았고, 시간별로는 점심에 19,590[lx]로 조도가 가장 높은 것을 알 수 있었고 조도 균제도는 창이 동쪽일 때 겨울에 가장 높았다. 창이 북쪽일 때는 여름이 겨울보다 평균조도가 약간 높았고, 시간별로는 아침에 조도가 약간 높은 것을 알 수 있었고 전체적으로 북쪽 창에서 실내조도가 현저하게 떨어지는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이와 같은 결과로 측창의 브라인드를 현재 사용하고 있는 수직 브라인드 대신에 수평 브라인드를 사용하여 주광의 범위를 넓게 조절하여 사용하게 하고, 점등제어를 현재 측창면과 수직으로 되어있는 배열을 수평으로 한다면 자연채광의 효과를 배가 할 수 있으리라고 사료된다. 미백 전, 미백후, 재광화 후 미세경도 변화 양상이 미백을 하지 않은 대조군과 차이를 보이지 않았으며 (p > 0.05) 미백 전과 미백 후의 미세경도의 차이 미백후와 재광화 후의 미세경도의 차이도 유의할 만한 차이가 없었다 (p > 0.05). 따라서 시중에 판매되고 있는 whitening strip과 미백 젤은 14일 동안의 통상적인 미백과정 동안 법랑질의 미세경도에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 사료된다.able pitch와 helical angle보다는 근본적으로 radial land가 screw-in effect의 예방에 더 큰 역할을 하는 것으로 추정될 수 있다 따라서 NiTi file의 사용 경험이 없는 초심자의 경우 근단부 폭경의 유지능력이 좋은 ProFile$^{(R)}$의 사용이 추천된다.)되었다.였으나 강남콩군 외에는 단백질의 소화 흡수율 및 효율은 크게 향상되지 않아 단백질의 소화 흡수율을 떨어뜨리는 요인에 관한 연구가 집중적 으로 이루어져야 하리라고 생각된다.면 바로 위 지점의 풍속을 측정하였다. 각 Seeding 물질에 대해 팬을 켜지 않았을 때, 즉 바람의 영향이 없을 때 측정한 표면유속을 바람의 세기가 변한 경우의 기준 표면유속으로 이용하였다. 본 연구의 결과 비중이 0.01 내외인 Ecofoam과 white polystyrene에 비해 비중이 0.92인 black polypropylene은 대부분이 물속에 잠겨 있어 흐름과 거의 일치하여 움직임을 알 수 있었다. 또한 흐름의 평균유속이 0.165 m/s의 저유속에서 바람이 tracers에 미치는 영향이 평균유속 0.558m/s인 경우보다 커서, 바람의 세기의 증가에 따라 표면유속 측정값이 급속히 감소되었다. 흐름의 평균유속이 큰 경우에는 바람이 tracer에 마치는 영향이 현격히 줄어듬을 보이고 있다. 결론적으로 유속이 증가함에 따라 바람의 영향은 감소하나, 바

  • Chinese milkvetch (Astragalus sinicus L.) has been traditionally used as a green manure supplying mineral N and organic matters to soil. In rice-Chinese milkvetch interrelay cropping system, three rice cultivating methods (no-till direct seeding, no-till transplanting, and tillage transplanting) were evaluated for stand reestablishment without reseeding Chinese milkvetch with two cropping times (May 25 and June 4) for two years. Chinese milkvetch incorporated was decomposed rapidly in the first week. Decomposition was fast in topsoil than in subsoil. Natural milkvetch reestablishment (NMR), following harvest of no-till-direct-sown rice was good enough to cover the paddy field in both cropping times, but rice yield of this method was lower than that of transplanted rice on paddy field without milkvetch cultivation. Even though good NMR was secured in no-till rice transplanting, the shoot of milkvetch should be removed before machine-transplanting of rice seedlings. NMR was better in rice cropping at the mid-ripening stage of milkvetch (June 4) than at the late-bloom stage (May 25). Rice yield was higher in tillage transplanting at the mid-ripening stage of milkvetch (June 4) than in the other rice cropping method.

Changes of Antioxidative Enzymes and Alcohol Dehydrogenase in Young Rice Seedlings Submerged in Water (담수조건하 벼 발아 및 입모단계시 항산화효소 및 Alcohol dehyrogenase활성 변화)

  • Successful germination and establishment of seedlings in flooded paddy are critical in direct seeding cultivation of rice. In this study, we examined the relationship between antioxidant enzymes and alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) activities and coleoptile elongation under submergence of deep water with two rice cultivars, Iksan429 and Woodrose, which show characteristic coleoptile elongation under hypoxic condition. The growth of shoot under submerged in water was faster than the root. The survival duration was longer in Iksan429 than in Woodrose under submerged in water. The alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) activities were significantly increased under hypoxia compared to in aerated condition. The ADH activity was increased in Iksan429 more than in Woodrose under hypoxia. The superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in Iksan429 was gradually increased up to 5 days after treatment (DAT) then decreased slowly till 14 DAT under water, whereas in Woodrose it was dramatically decreased after 5 DAT. The peroxidase (POX) activity in Iksan429 was significantly increased until 7 DAT under hypoxia, whereas it was not significantly different in Woodrose during hypoxic treatment. However, in non-treated condition, POX activity in Woodrose was increased more than Iksan429. The changes of catalase (CAT) activities showed no differences in both cultivars. We suggest that the overexpression of ADH, SOD and POX activities is responsible for the hypoxic tolerance and plays an important role in the surviving of rice seedling.

  • Recently more than 450 incidents of oil spill a year have occurred in nearshore of Korea, which caused unmeasurelable losses in fisheries and severe damage in marine ecosystem. Two approaches remain paramount in any response to marine oil spill : the enhancement of natural dispersion of the oil by using dispersants, and mechanical recovery using booms and skimmers. A technique currently receiving fresh attention is the enhancement of the natural bioremediation of oil through the application of micro-organisms and/or nutrient. Oil, like many natural substances, will biodegrade over a period of time into simple compounds such as carbon dioxide, water and biomass. Bioremediation is the term used to describe a range of processes which can be used to accelerate natural biodegradation. More specifically biostimulation is the application of nutrients, and bioaugremetation or seeding is the addition of microbes specially selected to degrade oil. Bioremediation is an economically attractive method for the clean-up of oil-contaminated area. Bioremediation has been demonstrated to be an effective oil spill countermeasure for use in cobble, sand beach, salt marsh, and mud flat environment.

Effect of Phosphate Fertilizer and Manure in Reducing Cadmium Phytoavailability in Radish-grown Soil (중금속 오염 농경지에서 축분퇴비와 인산비료의 혼용시용에 의한 카드뮴 식물이용성 저감효과)

  • ACKGROUND: Cadmium (Cd) has long been recognized as one of most toxic elements. Application of organic amendments and phosphate fertilizers can decrease the bioavailability of heavy metals in contaminated soil. METHODS AND RESULTS: This study was conducted to evaluate effect of combined application of phosphate fertilizer and manure in reducing cadmium phytoavailability in heavy metal contaminated soil. Phosphate fertilizers [Fused and super phosphate (FSP) and $K_2HPO_4$ (DPP)] and manure (M) were applied as single application (FSP, DPP, and M) to combined application (FSP+M and DPP+M) before radish seeding. $K_2HPO_4$ decreased $NH_4OAc$ extractable Cd and plant Cd concentration, mainly due to increases in soil pH and negative charge. However, FSP increased $NH_4OAc$ extractable Cd and plant Cd concentration. Manure significantly increased soil pH and negative charge. Combined application of phosphate fertilizer and manure were much more effective in reducing Cd phytoavailability than a simple application of each component. Calculated solubility diagram indicated that Cd concentrations in the solution of soils amended with phosphate fertilizers and manure were undersaturated with respect to all potential Cd minerals [$Cd_3(PO_4)_2$, $CdCO_3$, $Cd(OH)_2$, and $CdHPO_4$]. Plant Cd concentration and $NH_4OAc$ extractable Cd were negatively related to soil pH and negative charge. CONCLUSION: Alleviation of Cd phytoavailability with phosphate fertilizer and manure can be attributed primarily to Cd immobilization due to the increase in soil pH and negative charge rather than Cd and phosphate precipitation. Therefore, combined application of alkaline phosphate materials and manure is effective for reducing Cd phytoavailability.

Improvement of A Rice Seed Pelleting Machine for Direct Seeding in Rice Cultivation (직파용 벼 펠렛종자 제조장치 성능 개선 연구)

  • 본 연구는 기존 벼 펠렛종자 제조장치의 제조성능 및 제조 벼 펠렛종자 품질향상을 위하여 펠렛재료 공급부, 성형부, 펠렛종자 배출부를 개선 설계 제작하여 그 성능과 제조 벼 펠렛종자 특성을 구명함으로써 직파용 벼 펠렛종자 대량생산을 위한 제조장치 개발의 기초 자료를 얻고자 수행하였으며 그 주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 펠렛재료의 일정한 공급과 펠렛재료가 성형 홈으로부터의 이탈하는 것을 줄이고, 펠렛종자의 완전한 배출이 가능하도록 한 벼 펠렛종자 제조장치를 설계·제작하였으며, 벼 펠렛종자 제조장치를 상토 종자혼합비, 성형롤의 회전속도에 따라 실험한 결과 벼 펠렛종자 제조 능력은 성능 개선 전의 펠렛종자 제조장치에 비하언 약 1.7배 향상된 제조능력을 보였으며, 성형률은 최대 약 89 %로 나타나 개선 전의 71%에 비해 18 %정도 성형률이 향상되었다. 그러나, 벼 종자손실률은 약 24% ∼ 49%로 거의 비슷한 수준인 것으로 나타났다. 제조된 벼 펠렛종자의 특성을 분석한 결과 펠렛종자의 구형률은 99.1%로 거의 구형으로 제조됨을 알 수 있었으며, 무게는 제조 직후에는 약 1.70 g, 완전 건조 후에는 1.31 g으로 나타났고, 직경은 약 12.03 mm에서 건조 후 11.53 mm로 축소되었다. 개선 전에 비해 직경과 무게가 약간씩 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 재선된 제조장치에서 펠렛재료가 성형롤의 성형 홈에 압축 공급되고, 펠렛재료의 손실도 적었기 때문으로 판단된다. 제조된 한 개의 벼 펠렛종자 내에 포함된 완전 벼 종자의 개수는 상토 종자혼합비가 커질수록 성형롤의 회전속도가 낮을수록 많아지는 것으로 분석되었으며, 모두 펠렛종자 당 평균 약 3 개 이상의 완전 벼 종자를 포함하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 개선 전에 비하여 펠렛종자 내에 포함된 평균 완전 종자수도 증가하였으며, 3개 이상 완전 종자를 포함한 펠렛종자의 비율도 증가하여 유압에 의한 펠렛재료 공급과 성형롤의 개선효과가 있었던 것으로 보인다. 음지 건조 후 벼 펠렛종자의 압축강도는 약 132 N ∼ 152 N으로 조사되었으며, 개선전에 비하면, 약 30 %가 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 출아율 실험 결과 상토 종자혼합비 6 : 1, 성형롤 회전속도 7 rpm에서 건답직파는 100%, 답수직파는 97 %의 출아율을 보여 만족할 만한 결과를 얻었으나, 그 외의 경우는 거의 90 % 이하의 출아율을 보여 출아율을 높이기 위한 방안이 필요한 것으로 보인다. 본 연구의 벼 펠렛종자 제조장치의 적정운전 조건은 제조된 벼 펠렛종자의 특성과 출아율을 고려해 볼 때 상토 종자혼합비 6 : 1, 성형롤 회전속도 약 7 rpm으로 판단되며, 이 때 제조능력은 시간당 약 65 Kg(펠렛종자 약 39,000 개), 성형률 약 87 %, 종자손실률은 약 30 %, 펠렛종자 내 평균 종자수는 약 5.5 개, 완전 벼 종자 3개 이상 포함 펠렛종자 비율은 약 100 %가 될 것으로 보인다.

Effect on Fat and Fatty Acid Compositions of Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) According to Several Sowing Season (파종기(播種期)가 땅콩의 지방(脂肪) 및 지방산(脂肪酸) 조성(組成)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • In order to determine the optimum sowing date of peanut in the middle part of Korea, peanut's 100-grain-weight and physico-chemical compositions for peanut cultivars such as runner (Yeoju landrace), semi-spanish (Suweon No. 15) and spanish types (Wasedairu) to different seeding date which planted at interval of ten days from May 5 to July 4, in 1981, was carried out. The 100-grain-weight and crude fat of peanut were increased from May 5 to May 25, but after that decreased. And the 100-grain-weight of peanut was great in order of Wasedairu, Suweon No. 15 and Yeoju landrace. The highest amount of crude fat was seen in peanuts which was sown at May 25 and May 15. Unsaturated fatty acids are composed of $80{\sim}85%$ of oleic and linoleic acid, but saturated fatty acids are constituted of $10{\sim}15%$ of palmitic acid and $1{\sim}5%$ of stearic and arachidic acid. Composition ratio of fatty acid in peanut was changed greatly according to sowing date. According to the late sowing date linoleic and palmitic acid were increased but oleic acid was decreased, respectively.

Radiotherapy of Pineal and Ectopic Pineal Tumors (송과선종 및 이소성 송과선종의 방사선 치료)

  • From December 1984 to February 1990, 16 patients with tumors of pineal and suprasellar location were treated with radiation therapy. Tissue diagnoses were obtained before radiation therapy in 5 patients and 11 were irradiated without histologic confirmation. Initial treatments for these patients were craniospinal plus boost primary irradiation(six), whole brain plus boost primary irradiation(nine), primary tumor site irradiation(one). The 5 year actuarial survival rate is $71\%$. Three cases with elevated beta-human chorionic gonadotropin(HCG) responded favorably to radiation, but pineal tumors with elevated alpha-fetoprotein(AFP) did not respond well. Spinal metastasis developed in 2 cases(2/15) with elevated AFP : one received prophylactic spinal irradiation, another did not. Our studies suggest that more aggressive treatment would be necessary in patient with elevated AFP and in this patient, radiation therapy may be initiated without pathologic confirmation. From the result of our study, routine use of prophylactic spinal irrdiation for all patients with pineal region tumor is not indicated and use of prophylactic spinal irradiation is considered for the patients with positive craniospinal fluid cytology, meningeal seeding, disease extension along the ventricular wall and biopsy proven germinoma.

Weed Occurrence Accompanied by Sowing Time and Control System in Dry-seeded Rice Fields (벼 건답직파(乾畓直播) 재배시기별(栽培時期別) 잡초발아양상(雜草發芽樣相) 및 방제체계(防除體系))

  • Field experiment were carried out to elucidate the changes of weed occurrence according to the sowing time and to establish the efficient weed control system in dry seeded rice cultivation. E crus-galli and D. sanguinalis are tow major weeds at the earlier sowings, but C. difformis was dominating at the later sowing. In the case of E. crus-galli, there was a tendency of gaining its dominance values as the rice growth stage advances. The later the sowing time was, the more weeds occurred at the early rice growth stages: However, when measured at heading, total dry weight was greater at the earlier sowings. Yield loss due to weeds were also greater at the earlier sowings. Community diversity of weeds was greater at the later sowings, while specific weed was gradually dominating as rice growth stage advances, regardless of sowing time. When herbicides were applied before 15 DAS, weeds were effectively controlled only upto 35 DAS. So systemic herbicide application, one on 0 to 10 DAS and the other on just after flooding, appeared to be recommendable in direct seeded rice cultivation.
