A new peanut variety "Charmpyeong" (Arachis hypogaea ssp. hypogaea L.) was developed at the Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute, NICS, in Milyang in 2007. It was developed from the cross between the high-yielding cultivar "Shindaekwang" and the very short stem cultivar "ICGV94216". This Virginia plant typed "Charmpyeong" has 33 cm stem height and 18 branch number Each pod with ellipse-shaped large kernel has two grains with brown testa and 100 seed weight was 88 g in the regional yield trials (RYT). This variety also showed more resistant to web blotch compared with check one. Especially it has resistance to lodging until harvesting owing to short stem. In the regional yield trials "Charmpyeong" was outyielded than check variety by 13% with 4.35 MT/ha for grain.

'Choyoung', a winter forage triticale cultivar (X Triticosecale Wittmack), was developed at the Department of Rice and Winter Cereal Crop, NICS, RDA in 2015. The cultivar 'Choyoung' has the leaves of medium width, long length and green color and a medium grain of brown color. The heading date of the cultivar 'Choyoung' was April 30 which was 2 days earlier than that of check cultivar 'Shinyoung'. Its tolerance or resistance to cold, wet injury, powdery mildew, and leaf rust was similar to those of the check cultivar. But the resistance to the lodging of cultivar 'Choyoung' was stronger than that of the check. The average forage fresh and dry matter yield of cultivar 'Choyoung' at milk-ripe stages were 40.5 and $15.7MT\;ha^{-1}$, respectively, which were similar to those (40.3 and $16.1MT\;ha^{-1}$) of the check cultivar. The silage quality of 'Choyoung' was higher than that of the check cultivar 'Shinyoung' in crude protein content (5.9%), while was similar to the check cultivar 'Shinyoung' in acid detergent fiber (33.9%), neutral detergent fiber (57.3%), and total digestible nutrients (62.2%). It showed a grain yield of $5.59MT\;ha^{-1}$, which was 38% higher than that of the check cultivar 'Shinyoung' ($4.05MT\;ha^{-1}$). This cultivar is recommended for fall sowing forage crops in areas in which average daily minimum mean temperatures in January are higher than $-10^{\circ}C$.

Background: Rehmannia glutinosa is a perennial herb belonging to the family Scrophulariaceae and is used in traditional oriental medicine. This study was conducted to evaluate the appropriateness of plug-seedling cultivation for replanting of R. glutinosa. Methods and Results: The seed rhizomes of Rehmannia glutinosa 'Jihwang 1' were harvested in the middle of March, 2018. Direct seedling cultivation was conducted after air curing for 3 days. The seedlings for transplanting were cultivated for 30 (30D), 45 (45D), and 60 days (60D). The mat formation rates of the 30D, 45D and 60D treatment seedling were 81.3%, 100%, and 100%, respectively. Of the tree treatment groups, flowering occurred only in the 45D and 60D treatment groups, and their flowering rates were $7.3{\pm}3.06%$ and $13.3{\pm}1.15%$, respectively. The agronomic characteristics and active components of the three treatment groups were evaluated in comparison with the DS1 (directly seeded group, control) and DS2 (directly seeded group, replanting) groups. As a result, the leaf length and leaf width of the 30D seedlings were higher than other treatment groups, but the number of leaves per plant was statistically the same. In addition, root diameter and yield of the 30D seedling were statistically the same as DS1. Moreover the catalpol contents of 30D, 45D, DS1 and DS2 group seedlings were 2.23%, 1.86%, 2.50% and 2.08%, respectively. Conclusions: Taken together, these findings suggest it is feasible to use the plug-seedling cultivation method for replanting of R. glutinosa. seedlings. However, further evaluation of the economic aspect is needed.
We analyzed the growth and quality characteristics of barley sprouts grown under artificial light sources consisting of a fluorescent lamp or light-emitting diode (LED) in an aquaculture system (grown with water only, without nutrients). At the end of the observation period, the shoots grown under the fluorescent lamp treatment were the longest, followed by the LED treatment and natural light-treatment. It was also observed that growth was faster for sprouts subjected to a non-sterilizing treatment than those subjected to a 70% ethanol treatment. As the seed sowing rate for planting trays increased, the yield of harvested barley sprouts increased; among light treatments, the natural light treatment resulted in the lowest yield, while the fluorescent light treatment resulted in the highest. The total phenol and total flavonoid contents of extracts of the barley sprouts were highest for the natural light treatment, but TEAC and FRAP were both highest for the fluorescent lamp treatment. The essential amino acid content ranged from 41.64 to 45.93 mg/g and was relatively higher for the natural light treatment than the other two treatments, while the content of non-essential amino acids was highest for the LED treatment. The total amino acid content was highest for the LED treatment at 97.47 ± 6.30 mg/g, for which the content of non-essential amino acids (53.17%) was higher than that of essential amino acids (46.83%).
To replace the sawdust in the growth medium of oyster mushroom to utilize its by-product spent mushroom substrates (SMS) as feed for ruminant, we performed cultivation test using cotton seed hull pellet (CSHP), corn stalk pellet (CSP), corncob (CC), and analyzed the feed chemical properties of those SMS. As a result of cultivation test, CC and CSHP treatment took 27 days for spawn run, 4 days for primordium formation, and 3 days for development fruiting bodies, resulting in a total cultivation period of 34 days. The yield per bottle was 134 g for CC treatment, similar to 130 g for control, while CSHP treatment (112 g) and CSP treatment (68 g) were lower than that of control. The highest biological efficiency (BE) was shown in CC treatment as 80.1%, which was 11.4% higher than 68.7% of control. The SMS of CC treatment had a relatively low content of neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber, and in particular, lignin content was the lowest and crude protein content was the highest among other treatments. Therefore, CC as a substitute material for sawdust was capable of stable mushroom production and excellent nutritional value as a feed for its by-products.
This experiment was conducted to explore the cultural method capable of raising of picked cotton ratio and more high-yielding in the middle part of Korea where growth period of cotton is short. By early vinyl-mulching culture, emergence date was earlier, flowering and boll opening were shorter than non-mulching, especially boll opening date was earlier about 8 to 15 days. Plant height was longer by vinyl-mulching, fruiting branches and number of bolls per plant at vinyl-mulching of the 10th April produced more twice than non-mulching of the 10th May. Picked cotton ratio was 79% at non-mulching of the 10th May, while viny-mulching of the 10th April produced most of picked cotton as picked cotton ratio 99%. At vinyl-mulching of the 10th April, lint yield increased more 76-90% than non-mulching. Staple length was some longer and also content of linolenic acid of cotton seed oil was higher than non-mulching.
This experiment was carried out to evaluate Korean red rices as useful genetic resource. Semi-wild red rices were collected from farmer's field of the Korean peninsula from 1988 to 1991. The collected red rices were classified into two groups according to length /width ratio of paddy rice and ecological characters. One was long grain red rice and the other was short grain red rice. Those were evaluated in yield components, culm length and panicle length. Mean number of panicles per hill of collected long grain red rices was 21.5 and that of short grain was 11.8. Number of spikelets per panicile of the long and short grain red rices were 86.1 and 108.7, respectively. 1000 grains weight of long grain was 20.1g and that of short grain was 20.2g. Spikelet fertility of long and short grain were 80.4% and 79.4%, respectively. Culm length of long grain was 103.6cm and that of short grain was 94.8cm. Panicle length of long and short grain were 22.1cm and 21.3cm, respectively. Number of panicles per hill, number of spikelets per panicle and culm length were significantly different between the two groups, however no differences, in panicle, length and seed fertility were found between the two groups.

This study was conducted to determine the regional adaptability of Fagopyrum tataricum in Korea. Suwon, Chunchon, Kangneung, Yonchon and Taean at different experiment sites had soil pH of 6.52, 5.65, 5.7, 5.89 and 5.82, respectively, being at more unfavorable conditions than a recommended soil condition for yam cultivation with pH 5.8~6.7. The amounts of organic matter in Suwon, Chunchon, Taean, and Yonchon were 1.96%, 4.51%, 3.76%, 1.89% and 1.12%, respectively, being at more favorable conditions than a recommended organic matter in soil for yam cultivation with 2.0~3.0%. As the results from cultivating of large plantings in different regions, Suwon showed grain weight in plant of 7.8g. In seed extract analysis, rutin contents were 44.9mg/100g in F. esculentum and 1475.5mg/100g in F. tataricum., respectively.
To estimate the responses of sesame plant in growth and yielding traits to different soil drainage conditions, a pot trial was conducted by using of sesame variety "Suweon-9" were introduced with 5 different mixing combinations of clay and sea-sand soils as 0:100, 25:75, 50:50, 75:25, and 100:0 percents in volumetric ratio. Also two irrigation methods as 20mm/6 days interval and 10mm/3 days interval were detected. As a result, water drainage was linearly decreased with increament of clay contents. And the excess drainage condition(such as pure sand soil) required more irrigation, however in crop growths, no significant differences among various soil drainage conditions except the pure sand were recognized. On the other hand, number of capsules per plant, among other yielding components, was most contributed factor to the yield, which was effectively given from the soil mixed with clay and sea-sand as 75% and 25%, respectively. Therefore, much similar responses were also detected from the seed yields per a sesame plant. However, the number of seeds per capsule and maturity function were more effectively composed under the soil mixed with clay and sea-sand as 25% and 75% respectively better than under the soil of 75% and 25%. As a conclusion, the yielding responses of sesame plant was advanced more effectively at the soil conditions of water conserved type (e.g. 25%/75% in clay/sand ratio) than of water-draining type (e.g. 75%/25% in clay/sand ratio).nd ratio).
Germinability, electrophoretic variation of protein of shattered seeds during overwintering and characteristic of main agronomic traits of off-type rice plant occurring in paddy field harvested by combine were investigated. Germinability of shattered seed decreased as time goes in paddy field in both Japonica and Tongil type varieties. Electrophoretic protein bands become more and more light as time goes. Occurrence of off-type rice plant was higher in Japonica varieties than in Tongil type varieties. Off-type rice plant was shorter in plant height, leaf length, tiller number per hill, internode length, panicle length and spike let number per panicle. Germinability of seeds of off-type rice plant as not significantly different compared to the control variety. Yield of off-type plants of Japonica varieties was on average 5.1kg / 10a and that of Tongil type varieties was on average 0.9kg /10a. Mixing ratio to the control variety was about 0.7% in Japonica varieties and that of Tongil type varieties was about 0.1%.
