Hemp [Cannabis sativa L.] has been cultivated as a fiber crop for long history, but it was a good oil crop because its seed contain plenty of lipid which is high ratio of unsaturated fatty acid. Hemp seed oil was extracted with a extruding method in many countries including Europe. The color of oil extracted with extruding method is dark green which could be difficult to attract consumer's interest in Korea because of insufficient information about hemp seed oil. This study was conducted to know correct information about hemp seed oils which were extracted with pressuring and extruding methods. In extruding method, seeds were crushed during the extracting process and discharged oil cake in shape of thin ribbon, but maintained seed shape although the seed were slightly flatted in pressuring method. Oil yield were higher in the extruding method in comparison with pressuring method. The oil have lower degree of lightness but higher degree of greenness and yellowness in the extruding method in comparison with pressuring method because of higher content of chlorophyll A, B and carotenoid. In fatty acid composition, the ratio of palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid and ${\gamma}$-linolenic acid were higher but linoleic acid and ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid were lower in the extruding method in comparison with pressuring method. The content of total tocopherol and ${\gamma}$-tocopherol were lower in the extruding method in comparison with pressuring method.
This study was conducted to evaluate basic seed characteristics such as morphological characteristics and various seed vigor using 4 sorghum varieties, Nampungchal, Donganme, Hwanggeumchal and Whinchal. No difference was shown in morphological characteristics of the varieties except that the width. Whinchal has bulb-shaped seed, while the other varieties have oval-shaped seeds. The seed coat color of Whinchal is obviously different from those of the other varieties; especially, Nampungchal and Hwanggeumchal are not glossy. Germination rate were Hwanggeumchal > Nampungchal > Donganme > Whinchal in the order of higher rate in standard germination tests and cold germination test. In the ageing test, Donganme showed the lowest 15% decrease in comparison with the standard cultivar. Electric conductivity (EC) has negative correlation with standard germination tests, cold germination test and accelerated ageing test. In the percentage of emergence (PE), Hwanggeumchal was the highest 85.7% which was more than 40% to the lowest Whinchal. Mean emergence time (MET) showed significant difference between the varieties; Whinchal showed the slowest 6.0 days.

Persimmon seeds contain considerable amounts of minerals, amino and organic acids, natural antioxidants and phenolic compounds. The objective of this study was to investigate quality characteristics and antioxidant potential of Korean persimmon seeds. The pH (4.88-4.94), color values, contents of minerals, free amino acids, organic acids, and phenolic compounds and DPPH free radical scavenging potentials of persimmon seed extracts significantly (p < 0.05) varied with the genotypes. This study showed that the seeds could be used as a source of different mineral elements (47.14-85.07 mg/kg) without any measureable amount of heavy metals such as arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury. Similarly, considerable amounts of organic (1550.13-2413.08 mg/kg) and essential amino (50.85-54.03 mg/kg) acids and total phenolic compounds ($1227.91-1307.78{\mu}g$ gallic acid equivalent/g) were also found in the seed extracts, indicating their potential food value as a natural antioxidant. Results of the present study imply that prethanol-A, a food preservative, can be used as an effective extraction to obtain the minerals, organic and free amino acids, and phenolic compounds from the persimmon seeds, which possess a big potential to be commercially used in food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.
The combined SHARON (Single reactor system for High ammonium Removal Over Nitrite)-ANAMMOX (Anaerobic ammonium oxidation) reactor were operated in mesophilic condition ($35^{\circ}C$). In this study, microbial granulation and characteristics of SHARON and ANAMMOX sludges were investigated using settling test, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH). In SHARON reactor, Aerobic granulation with diameter of 1.5~2.5 mm was accomplished but aerobic granulation was weaker than anaerobic granular sludge. Initial seed sludge of ANAMMOX reactor was used as attached media for biofilm growth. ANAMMOX sludge was more compact and rounder rather than seed sludge. Though ANAMMOX sludge has high activity, it has lower settling ability than the seed granule. The color of ANAMMOX sludge was changed from dark to redish brown granular with diameter of 1~2 mm. In FISH of ANAMMOX sludge, high fraction of Candidatus B. stuttgartiensis which paid great role of nitrogen conversion was detected. Also, FISH results reveals that ANAMMOX bacteria inhabit at inner parts near surface, having advantages in utilization of substrates and protection from oxygen inhibition.
The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal recipe of rice cookies with two different amounts of Stevia rebaudiana leaf and grape seed oil, using a central composite design (CCD). In addition, mixing conditions of rice cookies were optimized by sensory evaluation and mechanical and physicochemical analysis using response surface methodology (RSM). RSM was used to obtain 10 experimental points (including two replicates of Stevia rebaudiana leaf and Grape seed oil), and the formulation of Stevia rebaudiana leaf added rice cookies was optimized using rheology. The results of mechanical and physicochemical analysis showed significant values for lightness, redness, yellowness, hardness, spread factor, loss rate, leavening rate, sweetness, moisture, pH, and density (P<0.001), results of the sensory evaluation showed significant values for color, flavor, taste, texture, appearance, and overall quality (P<0.05). As a results, optimal sensory ratio was found to be 1.98 g of Stevia rebaudiana leaf and 37.94 g of Grape seed oil.
We have synthesized disc-like large silver nanomaterials that have nanostructured bumps on the surface using smaller nanoplate seeds. The size and shape of the bumpy nanostructures are rationally controlled by changing the concentrations of nanoplate seeds, silver ion, reductant, and citrate ion. Importantly, the synthetic mechanism of these bumpy nanostructures is remarkably similar to that of the conventional seed-mediated growth based on tiny seeds. We have further investigated the catalytic properties of the bumpy nanostructures for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol, which is associated with a concomitant color change from yellow to colorless.

Three species of seed beetles, Acanthoscelides pallidipennis (Motschulsky, 1874), Bruchidius terrenus (Sharp, 1886), and Kytorhinus senilis Solsky, 1869, from South Korea are reported for the first time. These three species can be morphologically distinguished from other Korean bruchid species by the distinctive color pattern of the elytra, presence of subapical spines on hind femur, and exposed last three tergites of abdomen, respectively. In this study, partial sequences of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I from Korean specimens of these species were generated. In addition, host plants, distribution maps, and photographs of the dorsal habitus and live specimens of each species are also included.

Based on the simple sequence repeat (SSR) marker, a Korean wheat core collection were established with 616 wheat accessions. Among them, the SNP genotyping for the entire genome was performed using DNA chip array to clarify the whole genome SNP profiles. Consequently, a total of 35,143 SNPs were found and we re-established a mini-core collection with 247 accessions. Population diversity and phylogenetic analysis revealed genetic diversity and relationships from the mini core set. In addition, genome-wide association study (GWAS) was performed on 19 phenotypic traits; ear type, awn length, culm length, ear length, awn color, seed coat color, culm color, ear color, loading, leaf length, leaf width, seeding stand, cold damage, weight, auricle, plant type, heading stage, maturation period, upright habit, and degree of flag leaf. The GWAS was performed using the fixed and random model circulating probability unification (FarmCPU), which identified 14 to 258 SNP loci related to 19 phenotypic traits. Our study indicates that this Korean wheat mini-core collection is a set of germplasm useful for basic and applied research with the aim of understanding and exploiting the genetic diversity of Korean wheat varieties.
This study was carried out to increase germination by classifying seeds as seed coat colors of three species of genus Pinus. As result, the seeds classified as colors showed a difference. In seed length, Pinus densiflora (Pd) and P. thunbergii (Pt) had no difference while P. rigitaeda (Pr) had a difference between light yellow seeds and dark brown seeds (p<0.05). Only Pt was different in seed width. And in 1,000 seeds weight the three species showed a great difference while were not significantly different in seed moisture contents. In percent germination, all of the three species had a difference, especially that of Pr was very wide. Pd and Pt were not different in mean germination time but Pr showed a difference between light yellow seeds and dark brown seeds.
