  • Many studies have been done on secure operating system using secure kernel that has various access control policies for system security. Secure kernel can protect user or system data from unauthorized and/or illegal accesses by applying various access control policies like DAC(Discretionary Access Control), MAC(Mandatory Access Control), RBAC(Role Based Access Control), and so on. But, even if secure operating system is running under various access control policies, network traffic among these secure operating systems can be captured and exposed easily by network monitoring tools like packet sniffer if there is no protection policy for network traffic among secure operating systems. For this reason, protection for data within network traffic is as important as protection for data within local system. In this paper, we propose a secure operating system trusted channel, SOSTC, as a prototype of a simple secure network protocol that can protect network traffic among secure operating systems and can transfer security information of the subject. It is significant that SOSTC can be used to extend a security range of secure operating system to the network environment.

  • In this paper, we describe a blocking method of buffer overflow attack for secure operating system. Our team developed secure operating system using MAC and ACL access control added on Linux kernel. We describe secure operating system (SecuROS) and standardized Secure utility and library. A working prototype able to detect and block buffer overflow attack is available.

  • Many people use Linux and FreeBSD because it is freeware and excellent performance. The open source code is very important feature but it also has some problem which may be attacked by hackers frequently. This paper describes the SecuROS of secure operating system that is best solution to this problem and introduces user and programmer interface for active use of secure operating system. Developed secure operating system is composed of the access control method MAC and ACL and conforms to the POSIX which is universally used.

  • This paper proposes an operating system architecture for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), which is secure against root exploit, resilient to connection loss resulting in the control loss, and able to utilize common applications used in Linux. The Linux-based UAVs are exposed to root exploit. On the other hand, the microkernel-based UAVs are not able to use the common applications utilized in Linux, even though which is secure against root exploit. For this reason, the proposed architecture uses a virtualized microkernel on the Linux operating system to isolate communication roles and prevent root exploit. As a result, the suggested Operating system is secure against root exploit and is able to utilize the common applications at the same time.

  • SecuROS(Secure & Reliable Operating System) prevents and blocks possible system cracking by implementing additional security functions in FreeBSD 4.3 operating system (OS) kernel, including access control, user authentication, audit trail, encryption file system and trusted channel. This paper describes access control technique, which is one of core technologies of SecuROS, introduces the implementations of DAC, MAC and RBAC, all of which are corresponding access control policies, and show security and results of performance measurement on the basis of application of access control policies. Finally, security and performance between conventional OS environment and environment adopting access control policy is described.

  • The importance of this Paper is to develop a standard Performance evaluation model and scenario for the secure OS. According to the scenario that was conducted for Performance evaluation, benchmarking was Performed. All the benchmarking result was thoroughly analyzed. Our result contribute to evaluating Secure 05 that contains various security policy affecting system Performance. In this paper, it is expected to Provide guidelines of secure operating system for the consumer, developer and evaluator. It will also contribute to the systematic basis for evaluation of security 05 and the promotion of domestic information security industry by retaining basic technology for international trends.

  • Secure operating system is a special operating system that integrates some security functions(i.e. access control, user authentication, audit-trail and etc.) with normal operating system in order to protect system from various attacks. But it doesn't consider my security of network traffic. To guarantee the security of the whole system, network traffic must be protected by a certain way and IPsec is a representative technology for network security. However, it requires administrator's carefulness in managing security policies and the key management mechanism is very heavy as well as complicated. Moreover, it doesn't have a suitable framework for delivery of security information for access control mechanism. So we propose a simple trusted channel mechanism for secure communication between secure operating systems. It provides confidentiality md authentication for network traffic and ability to deliver security information. It is implemented at the kernellevel of IP layer and the simplicity of the mechanism can minimize the overhead of trusted channel processing.

  • In this paper, we propose a new access control security architecture for supporting flexibility in Secure Operating Systems. By adding virtual access control system layer to the proposed security architecture, various access control models such as MAC, DAC, and RBAC can be applied to Secure Operating Systems easily. The proposed security architecture is designed to overcome the problem of Linux system's base access control system. A policy manager can compose various security models flexibly and apply them to Operating Systems dynamically. Also, the proposed architecture is composed of 3 modules such as access control enforcement, access control decision, and security control. And access control models are abstracted to hierarchy structure by virtual access control system. And, we present the notation of policy conflict and its resolution method by applying various access control model.
