The continuous casting is primarily a heat-extraction process in which the heat transfer at various cooling zones profoundly influences quality of products. So development of numerical model is necessarily needed for more specific and clear investigations upon heat transfer mechanism at mold and secondary cooling zones. In this study, heat transfer coefficients which show the characteristic of heat transfer mechanism in mold are calculated for more exact analysis with temperature measured in bloom mold using optimal algorithm, and finally the validity of cooling conditions at secondary cooling zone actually used at field fur 30 Ton bloom type continuous casting of 0.187%C is investigated. From the results of solidification analysis, the characteristic of bloom mold shows a similar tendency with that of previous studies, and optimized cooling conditions for 0.187%C are presented.

The present study investigates convective heat/mass transfer and flow characteristics inside a rotating two-pass rectangular duct. A naphthalene sublimation technique is employed to determine the detailed local heat transfer coefficients using the heat and mass transfer analogy. The objective of this study is to determine the effects of turning geometry with rotation for 0.0$\leq$Ro$\leq$0.24. The results reveal that the sharp-turn corner has the larger pressure drop and lower heat transfer in the post-turn region than those of the round-turn corner. The strong secondary flow enhances heat transfer for the round-turn corner. Coriolis force induced by the rotation pushes the high momentum core flow toward the trailing wall in the first passage with radially outward flow and toward the leading wall in the second passage with radially inward flow. Consequently, the high heat transfer rates are generated on the trailing surface and the leading surface in the first and second passage, respectively. However, the strong secondary flow due to the turning dominates the flow pattern in the second passage, thus the heat transfer differences between the leading and trailing surfaces are small with the rotation.

Local heat/mass transfer and friction loss in a square duct roughened with various types of continuous and discrete rib turbulators are investigated. The combined effects of the gap flows of the discrete ribs and the secondary flows are examined for the purpose of the reduction of thermally weak regions and the promotion of the uniformity of heat/mass transfer distributions as well as the ;augmentation of average heat/mass transfer. The rib-to-rib pitch to the rib height ratio (p/e) of 8 and the rib angles of 90° and 60° are selected with e/D$\_$h/=0.08. The vortical structure of the secondary flows induced by the parallel angled arrays are quite distinct from that induced by the cross angled arrays. This distinction influences on heat/mass transfer and friction loss in all the tested cases. The gap flows of the discrete ribs reduce the strength of the secondary flows but promote local turbulence and flow mixing. Consequently, the angled discrete ribs with the small gaps provide a more uniform heat/mass transfer distribution sustaining high average heat/mass transfer.

An experimental study is conducted to investigate the effects of duct corrugation angle on heat/mass transfer characteristics in wavy ducts of a primary surface heat exchanger application. Local heat/mass transfer coefficients on the wavy duct sidewalls are determined by using a naphthalene sublimation technique. The corrugation angles(${\alpha}$) of the wavy ducts are 145$^{\circ}$, 130$^{\circ}$, 115$^{\circ}$ and 100$^{\circ}$. And the Reynolds numbers based on the duct hydraulic diameter vary from 300 to 3,000. The results show that at the low Re(Re $\leq$1000), the secondary vortices called Taylor-Gortler vortices perpendicular to the main flow direction are generated due to effect of duct curvature. By these secondary vortices, high heat/mass transfer regions are formed on both pressure-side and suction-side walls. At the high Re(Re $\geq$ 1000), these secondary flows are vanished with helping flow transition to turbulent flow and the regions which show high heat/mass coefficients by flow reattachment are formed on suction side. As corrugation angle decreases, the local peak Sh induced by Taylor-Gortler vortices increase at Re $\leq$1000. At high Re(Re $\geq$ 1000), by the existence of different kind of secondary flows called Dean vortices, non-uniform Sh distribution appears along spanwise direction at the narrow corrugation angle (${\alpha}$=100$^{\circ}$). Average Sh also increase by the enhanced effect of secondary vortices and flow reattachment. More pumping power (pressure loss) is required with the smaller corrugation angle due to the enhancement of flow instability.
The present study proposes modified temperature-dependent non-Newtonian viscosity model and investigates flow characters and heat transfer enhancement of the viscoelastic non-Newtonian fluid in a 2:1 rectangular duct. The proposed modified temperature dependent viscosity model has non-zero value near the high temperature and high shear rate region while on the existing viscosity models have zero value. Two versions of thermal boundary conditions involving difference combination of heated walls and adiabatic walls are analyzed in this study. The combined effect of temperature dependent viscosity, buoyancy, and secondary flow caused by second normal stress difference are ail considered. The Reiner-Rivlin model is adopted as a viscoelastic fluid model to simulate the secondary flow caused by second normal stress difference. Calculated Nusselt numbers by the modified temperature-dependent viscosity model gives under prediction than the existing temperature-dependent viscosity model in the regions of thermally developed with same secondary normal stress difference coefficients with experimental results in the regions of thermally developed. The heat transfer enhancement of the viscoelastic fluid in a 2:1 rectangular duct is highly dependent on the secondary flow caused by the magnitude of second normal stress difference.

The present study investigates the convective heat/mass transfer characteristics in wavy ducts of a primary surface heat exchanger. The effects of duct aspect ratio and flow velocity on the heat/mass transfer are investigated. Local heat/mass transfer coefficients on the corrugated duct sidewall are determined using a naphthalene sublimation technique. The aspect ratios of the wavy duct are 7.3, 4.7 and 1.8 with the corrugation angle of $145\Omega$. The Reynolds numbers, based on the duct hydraulic diameter, vary from 300 to 3,000. The results show that at the low Re(Re $\leq$ 1000) the secondary vortices called Taylor-Gortler vortices perpendicular to the main flow direction are generated due to effect of duct curvature. By these secondary vortices, non-uniform heat/mass transfer coefficients distributions appear. As the aspect ratio decreases, the number of cells formed by secondary vortices are reduced and secondary vortices and comer vortices mix due to decreased aspect ratio at Re$\leq$1000. At Re >1000, the effects of corner vortices become stronger. The average Sh for the aspect ratio of 7.3 and 4.7 are almost same. But at the small aspect ratio of 1.8, the average Sh decreases due to decreased aspect ratio. More pumping power (pressure loss) is required for the larger aspect ratio due to the higher flow instability.

The exhaust noise reduction of automobile with the active muffler is experimentally investigated. The control algorithm is the filtered-x LMS algorithm and the inverse algorithm with the adaptive line enhancer. Also, the control efficiency is increased with synthesized second harmonic engine frequency. In the experiment, the active muffler is applied to the end of exhaust system in automobile and the control with on-line secondary path modeling method(inverse algorithm) is compared the control of off-line secondary path modeling method. As secondary path transfer functions are changed, the experimental results show that the control performance with on-line method is more efficient than that with off-line method in the exhaust noise reduction of automobile.

The effect of secondary flow on the heat transfer of a turbulent wake generated by a flat plate was experimentally investigated. The secondary flow was induced in a curved duct in which the flat plate wake generator was installed. All three components of turbulent heat flux were measured in the plane containing the mean radius of curvature of the curved duct. The results showed that mean temperature profiles deviate from the similarity of the straight wake because of the cold fluid transported from the free-stream. The half-width of the mean temperature profile increased rapidly by upwash motion of the secondary flow. The changes to turbulence structure caused by the secondary flow show more pronounced effect on heat transport than on momentum transport. This is because the response to the variation of flow conditions is delayed in temperature field. Negative production of the turbulent heat flux is observed in the inner wake region. From the conditional averaging, it has been found that the negative production of the turbulent heat flux is generated due to a mixing process between the hot and low momentum eddies occupied in the inner wake region and the cold and high momentum eddies in the potential region.
It is the common practice to over design the reinforcement for the secondary tunnel lining due to the lack of rational insight into the ground loosening loads. and due to the conservative application of the empirical design methods. The main loads of the secondary lining are the ground Loosening loads and the ground water pressure, and the ground load is critical in the reinforcement design of the secondary lining in the case of drained tunnel. If the external load is absent around a tunnel, the reasons of the load far secondary tunnel lining are the deterioration of the primary supports such as shotcrete, steel rib, and rockbolts. Accordingly, the analysis method considering the ground-primary supports-secondary lining interaction should be required tar the rational design of the secondary tunnel lining. In this paper, the interaction was conceptually described by the simple mass-spring model and the load transfer from the ground and primary supports to the secondary lining is showed by the ground-primary supports-secondary lining reaction curves fur the theoretical solution of a circular tunnel. And also, the application of this proposed model to numerical analysis is verified in order to check the potential far the tunnel with the complex analysis conditions.

The present study investigated the heat/mass transfer characteristics in an equilateral triangular channel simulating the leading edge cooling passage in gas turbine blade. Using naphthalene sublimation method and pressure measurement experiments, local mass (heat) transfer and pressure coefficients were obtained. The experiments were conducted with three rotating numbers between 0.0 and 0.1; two channel orientations of $0^{\circ}$ (model A) and $30^{\circ}$ (model B); the fixed Reynolds number of 10,000. The results showed that the channel rotation caused the heat transfer discrepancy between suction and pressure sides. Due to the secondary flow induced by Coriolis force, the high heat transfer appeared on the pressure side. When the channel orientation was $30^{\circ}$ (model B), the secondary flow caused the more uniform heat transfer distribution among leading edge and inner wall on pressure side than that of the model A.
