Development of Welding Quality Vision Inspection System for Sinking Seat (차량용 싱킹시트의 용접품질 비젼 검사 시스템 개발)

  • This paper presents a vision based autonomous inspection system for welding quality control of car sinking seat. In order to overcome the precision error that arises from a visible inspection by operator in the manufacturing process of a car sinking seat, this paper proposes the MVWQC (machine vision based welding quality control) system. This system consists of the CMOS camera and NI machine vision system. The image processing software for the system has been developed using the NI vision builder system. The geometry of welding bead, which is the welding quality criteria, is measured by using the captured image with median filter applied on it. Experiments have been performed to verify the proposed MVWQC of car sinking seat.

  • The squeak propensity in the gear box of an automotive seat system is investigated analytically. The mating parts in the gear box are the lead screw and the nut, where the friction stresses are exerted on the thread of the screw. The lead screw is modeled as a circular beam allowing the bending and torsional vibrations. In the system, the lead screw converts rotating to translating motion so that it moves the automotive seat slightly tilted on the floor. The tilting angle is considered one major parameter in this study. Therefore, the equations of motion associated with the non-conservative friction force are derived with the inclusion of the tilting angle. It is found that the squeak noise corresponds to the several bending modes of the lead screw and its propensity is increased by the tilting angle of the seat.

  • This study is focused on the problem of seat allocation for group travel demand in airlines. We first explain the characteristic of group demand and its seat allocation process. The group demand in air travel markets can be classified into two types : incentive and package groups. Allocating seats for group demand depends on the types of group demand and the relationship between airlines and travel agents. In this paper we concentrate on the package group demand and develop an optimization model for seat allocation on the demand to maximize the total revenue. With some assumptions on the demand distribution and the linear approximation technique, we develop a mixed IP model for solving our problem optimally. From the computational experiments, we can find our optimization model can be applied well for real-world application.

A Study on the Minimization of Transmissibility of Seat Foam in Passenger Vehicles (승용차 시트용 폼의 진동전달율 최소화에 관한 연구)

  • One of the most important factor for the comfort of the passenger vehicles is the minimization of the compressible transmissibility during the running vehicles. Seat foam materials of I2 series(index 95 and the contents of isocyanate TDI was changed in percentages 75, 70, 65, 60, 50, 40) and DI series(density 50kg/$\textrm{m}^3$, index was changed 100, 95, 90) showed the significant differences in their transmissibility depended upon their chemical constitution such as index and contents of isocyanate TDI. The minimum trasmissibility of seat foam materials of I2 series was found from the materials with the contents of 65% isocyanate TDI and the index 95 at the frequency 4.79~5.31Hz. Also the minimum transmissibility of seat foam materials of DI series was found from the materials with the index 90 and the density of 50kg/$\textrm{m}^3$ at the frequency of 4.79~5.31Hz.

  • Using the dynamic model and simulation program TDA developed in the previous paper, effects of design parameters of an agricultural tractor-trailer system on its vertical seat vibrations were investigated. The tractor-trailer system was excited by traversing over a half-sine bump. The excitation frequencies were determined by traveling velocity of the tractor and a half-sine bump selected appropriately. TDA predicted the autospectra of the vertical seat accelerations with different values of design parameters and compared them to analyze their effects. The design parameters included positions of engine, cab, and seat mountings as well as their dynamic properties. The results of this study suggested guidelines with which an improved structure of tractor may be developed in the early stage of design for a better ride quality.

  • Automotive seat covers with olefin film imported from foreign companies exhibit some problems such as low peeling strength and high burning rate. The traditional manufacturing process requires gas flame or direct heating for the laminating step. This paper introduces an alternative solution that replaces the olefin film and flame lamination method in making automotive seat covers or interior fabrics. We adopt a new manufacturing concept that applies a water-based resin coating to develop a coating system. The coating machine was successfully developed and tested. Results are intended to contribute to improving the quality and productivity of automotive seat cover production.

  • We evaluate the effectiveness and validity of J(sub)e, which comprehensively describes the effects of specimen geometry and loading type, in predicting the fatigue life of auto seat belt anchor panel. We first simplify the heat affected zone model to reduce the number of finite elements. We then establish finite element models reflecting the actual overload behavior of 3 types of seat belt anchor specimens. Using finite element models elaborately established, we obtain the effective crack driving parameter J(sub)e composed of its ductility-dependent modal components. It is confirmed that the J(sub)e concept successfully predicts the fatigue life of multi-spot welded panel structures represented by auto seat belt anchors here.

  • The purpose of the work is to improve comfort of a car seat, especially dynamic comfort which affects driver's discomfort during the long time driving. Definition of dynamic comfort was made before the investigation of which parameter affects seat comfort. In order to optimize design parameters so as to maximize seat comfort as well as to know the cause of discomfort, benchmarking on a target vehicle and competitive vehicles was performed, which showed both the vibration transmission characteristics and the compression set due to dynamic loading should be reduced. As a solution ball rebounds was increased by about 10% of the original foam, which showed reduction of S.E.A.T. value by 10% and of compression set by 60%.

  • A seat suspension system with a controlled MR(Magneto Rheological) fluid damper is introduced to improve the ride quality and prevent the health risk of a driver compared to fixed seats. The system is located between a seat cushion and the base, and is composed of a spring, MR fluid damper and controller. The MR fluid damper designed in valve mode is capable of producing a wide range of damping force according to applied currents. In experiments, a person was sitting on the controlled seat excited by a hydraulic system The skyhook control, continuous skyhook control and relative displacement control were applied and the continuous skyhook control improved the vibration suppression by 36.6%.

In order to overcome the precision error that arises from a visible inspection by an operator in the manufacturing process of a RV sinking seat, the machine vision based welding quality control system is proposed. It consists of the CMOS camera and the NI vision system. The geometry of the welding bead, which is the welding quality criteria, is measured by using the captured image with a median filter applied on it. The image processing software for the system was developed using the NI LabVIEW software. The proposed welding quality inspection system for RV sinking seat was verified using experimentation.
