  • This study systematically analyzed computer-based driving intervention programs for seniors, to provide the academic background for driving intervention for seniors. Articles published from January 2009 till December 2018 were researched and analyzed. 'PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct' were used to search articles published overseas, and 'RISS, KERIS, and KISS' searched for articles published in Korea. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, totally 359 papers were retrieved, and 10 articles were finally analyzed; 8 articles (80%) were evidence level I, and 2 articles (20%) were evidence level III. Amongst the computer-based interventions, driving simulators (70%) were the most common, followed by two video image training (20%) and one Nintendo Wii program (10%). In most studies, driving simulators trained the cognitive and visual abilities of seniors and enhanced their abilities to cope with risk situations under various simulated circumstances. Other interventions were also reported to have a positive effect. For evaluating elderly drivers, the driving performance evaluation using a driving simulator was the most common; in addition, evaluations of attention, space-time ability, cognitive function, risk perception, depression and anxiety were also commonly used. We believe that it is appropriate to employ computer-based driving intervention programs for seniors to train and evaluate various domains. We expect that these interventions can be used as an effective tool for safe driving.

  • It is easy to assume that contradictions are logically incorrect or empty sets that have no solvability. This dilemma, which can not be done, is difficult to solve because it has to solve the contradiction hidden in it. Paradoxically, therefore, contradiction resolution has been viewed as an innovative and creative problem-solving. TRIZ, which analyzes the solution of the problem from the perspective of resolving contradictions, has been used for people rather than computers. The Butterfly model, which analyzes the problem from the perspective of solving the contradiction like TRIZ, analyzed the type of contradiction problem using symbolic logic. In order to apply an appropriate concrete solution strategy for a given contradiction problems, we designed the Butterfly algorithm based on decision making tree. We also developed a visualization tool based on Python tkInter to find concrete solution strategies for given contradiction problems. In order to verify the developed tool, the third grade students of middle school learned the Butterfly algorithm, analyzed the contradiction of the wooden support, and won the grand prize at an invention contest in search of a new solution. The Butterfly algorithm developed in this paper systematically reduces the solution space of contradictory problems in the beginning of problem solving and can help solve contradiction problems without trial and errors.

  • High-quality sea-ice surface models generated from aerial images can be used effectively as field data for developing satellite-based remote sensing methods but also as analysis data for understanding geometric variations of Arctic sea-ice. However, the lack of texture information on sea-ice surfaces can reduce the accuracy of image matching. In this paper, we analyze the performance of matching cost functions for homogeneous sea-ice surfaces as a part of high-quality sea-ice surface model generation. The matching cost functions include sum of squared differences (SSD), normalized cross-correlation (NCC), and zero-mean normalized cross-correlation (ZNCC) in image domain and phase correlation (PC), orientation correlation (OC), and gradient correlation (GC) in frequency domain. In order to analyze the matching performance for texture changes clearly and objectively, a new evaluation methodology based on the principle of object-space matching technique was introduced. Experimental results showed that it is possible to secure reliability and accuracy of image matching only when optimal search windows are variably applied to each matching point in textureless regions such as sea-ice surfaces. Among the matching cost functions, NCC and ZNCC showed the best performance for texture changes.

The results of the analysis of trends in the 4th Industrial Revolution and the subsequent search for application methods to the field of landscape architecture are as follows. First, the 4th Industrial Revolution means innovative change based on digital technology and seeks to create value based on intelligent information technology, and continuous growth is being made through innovation. This requires expertise to collect large amounts of information and creatively rework it, and a strategy to flexibly cope with changes in the times. Second, the status of technological use in response to the 4th Industrial Revolution in the field of landscape architecture is generalizing the establishment of precise analysis results such as survey technology and global mapping using drones, three-dimensional design simulation, and VR. In the field of traditional landscape architecture, efforts are made to obtain accurate fact-finding data on landscape site components. Third, the application methods in the field of landscape science according to the 4th Industrial Revolution in the future are required to supply precision technology and supply programs in the technology sector, and to provide a shared platform. In addition, a systemically standardized process will need to be established for this. In addition, educational efforts should be continued to professional manpower training and provide economic support for the development of technologies.

  • Multiculturalism may be deeply connected with the diversities of cultures and enlightenment discussed in the context that we live together with the specification of cultures derived from any spatial conditions overtly and covertly. People live on their own customs compatible with their space and the time, and they make their boundaries of races, nations, and national memories. In such a way each of them treats each other exclusively and is inclined not to recognize being of the others. Also people are apt to recognize the others unessentially and overlook the others's value and way of life. As a result they might destroy the foundation of symbiotic livings conditions on their own. On the other hand they pretend to search for the cultural diversities of the others and include them under their own universalities, resulting in conflicts. Hence it is required that we should make an efforts to prepare the fields for living together through getting over the problem of the recognition of matters and affairs before us. From the above-told critical mind this thesis seeks the multicultural relativities and more arrives at the relationalities discussed by East-Asiatic philosophers of Chuang Tzu and Ch'oe Han-gi. Especially by gazing at the idea of the interconnectedness which means activities, changeabilities and mobilities, appeared on the idea of Ch'oe Han-Gi's revolving transformation, it is stressed that the communications of the local with each other in the various aspects of, e.g. materials, regions and cultures should be achieved.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between depression due to the COVID-19 pandemic and park use behaviors using on line posts. During the period of the pandemic prevention activities, text data containing both 'park' and 'depression' were collected from blogs and cafes in the search engine of Naver and Daum, then analyzed using Text Mining and Social Network techniques. As a result, the main usage behaviors of park users who mentioned depression were 'look', 'stroll(walk)' and 'eat'. Other types of behaviors were connected centering around 'look', one of the communication behaviors. Also, from CONCOR analysis, as the cluster referred from communication behavior and dynamic behavior was formed as a single behavior type, it was considered park users with depression perceived the park as the space for communication and physical activities. As the spread of COVID-19 caused the restriction of communication activities, the users might consider parks as one of the solutions. In addition, it was considered that passive usage behaviors have prevailed rather than active ones due to the depression. Resulting outcomes would be useful to plan helpful urban park for citizens. It is necessary to further analyze the park use behavior of users in relation to the period of before/after the COVID-19 pandemic and the existence/nonexistence of depression.

  • Background: The biggest concern when using household chemical products is the health risk from inhalation exposure. Objectives: The purpose of this paper was to provide information necessary for estimating inhalation exposure factors in several countries/organizations and to present some examples. Methods: We attempted to use PRISMA-ScR for a systematic review, but no major reports were found. We used the Google search function instead to find 'exposure factor handbook'. As for the results, inhalation exposure factors from South Korea, the United States, Canada, the EU, Australia, Japan, and China were compared. Results: The basic concept and origin of exposure factors was the US Environmental Protection Agency's Exposure Factor Handbook. Its latest version is 2011, but several chapters have been updated in 2017, 2018, and 2019. South Korea's Exposure Factor Handbook was updated in 2019, more recently than those of other countries, and was systematically investigated. In South Korea, the average daily respiratory rate is 14.62 m3/day for adults and 12.73 m3/day for children. It is difficult to compare breathing rate by country because each country divides age groups differently and uses different methods to estimate it. Information on household chemical products, space used, and ventilation rate are in the exposure factor handbook in some countries and not in others. It is not in the handbook in South Korea, but in the notice from the NIER (National Institute of Environmental Research), a sub-regulation of the Chemical Product Safety Act. Conclusions: The exposure factors registered in South Korea's exposure factor handbook have been systematically studied and reflect the most recent data. When using data not in the relevant handbook, data from other countries might be applied, but it should be determined whether the nature and quality of the original data have been managed.

  • This research aims to identify current issues of arts education programs which have designed for North Korean Refugee Youth in South Korea and then navigates further steps to better serve the group. The purpose of study also pertains to the '2010 Seoul Agenda: Goals for the Development of Arts Education' announced at the Second World Conference on Arts Education, particularly, to the third Goal indicating how arts education practices can contribute to resolving social and cultural issues and promoting social cohesion and intercultural dialogues (UNESCO, 2010). This research engages with critical theory approach and adopts qualitative content analysis for collected documents and interview data. Based on the findings of this research, interview participants found its need of current arts education program for North Korean refugee youth become more value-driven and participant-centered. Currently, those programs available seem to incline to helping their adjustment to the South Korean society through arts-related activities, such as enhancing Korean language skills and learning Korean culture. Rather, it has been addressed that providing emotional and psychological supports and opportunities to search their own 'voice(s)' should be core objectives of the arts education programs. Moreover, when it is offered, arts educators and administrators need to make sure that participants can feel safe and secure as being present at the space for programs in order to express and encounter their true inner voice(s).

  • As the use of TBM increases, research has recently increased to to analyze TBM data with machine learning techniques to predict the exchange cycle of disc cutters, and predict the advance rate of TBM. In this study, a regression prediction of disc cutte wear of slurry shield TBM site was made by combining machine learning based on the machine data and the geotechnical data obtained during the excavation. The data were divided into 7:3 for training and testing the prediction of disc cutter wear, and the hyper-parameters are optimized by cross-validated grid-search over a parameter grid. As a result, gradient boosting based on the ensemble model showed good performance with a determination coefficient of 0.852 and a root-mean-square-error of 3.111 and especially excellent results in fit times along with learning performance. Based on the results, it is judged that the suitability of the prediction model using data including mechanical data and geotechnical information is high. In addition, research is needed to increase the diversity of ground conditions and the amount of disc cutter data.
