CO2 injection well sealant is vulnerable to supercritical CO2 (scCO2) exposure. To develop an alternative to the conventional sealant system (class G cement/class F fly ash), the performance of slag cement (SPC) systems containing class F fly ash (FFA) or class C fly ash (CFA) was evaluated and compared with the conventional sealant under scCO2 conditions. All sealant systems showed an immediate increase in compressive strength upon scCO2 exposure and, at 37.6 MPa, SPC/CFA showed the highest compressive strength after 14 days, which was much higher than the 29.8 MPa of the conventional sealant system. Substantial decreases in porosity were observed in all sealant systems, which were partly responsible for the increase in strength. Carbonation reactions led to pH decreases in the tested sealants from 12.5 to 10~11.6. In particular, the greatest decrease in pH in slag cement/class C fly ash probably supported relatively sustainable alkali activation reactions and the integrity of cement hydrates in this system. XRD revealed the presence of CaCO3 and a decrease in the content of cement hydrates in the tested sealants upon scCO2 exposure. TGA demonstrated a greater increase of CaCO3 and calcium-silicate-hydrate phases in SPC/CFA than in the conventional sealant upon scCO2 exposure.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity of swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) for detecting sealant microleakage. Materials and Methods: A total of 31 extracted sound human molar, assigned as suitable for sealant application, were chosen and divided into two groups: (1) no microleakage group and (2) microleakage group by applying sealant using the different methods. All specimens were immersed in 1% methylene blue for 24 h and sectioned to confirm the absence or presence of sealant microleakage as a gold standard method. Subsequently, all the sectioned specimens were digitally photographed using a microscope with a magnification of ${\times}50$. Presence of microleakage was evaluated on a 2-point rating scale. The association of histological method with conventional methods (visual and tactile assessment) and SS-OCT was assessed using a chi-squared test. The intra- and inter-examiner reliability was calculated using Cohen's Kappa. Results: The SS-OCT showed a sensitivity of 0.73 and a specificity of 1.00, while visual and tactile assessment showed a sensitivity of 0.67 and a specificity of 0.86. The inter-examiner reliability of SS-OCT was 0.79, whereas that of the visual and tactile assessment was 0.53. Conclusions: SS-OCT can be used to non-invasively detect sealant microleakage and to monitor pit and fissure sealant in the clinics.

In this study, the characteristics of single-component and other sealant were analyzed to provide repair methods and effective utilization of sealant due to crack generation. Humidity studies have shown that acrylic silicone is effective in many areas of fluidity and temperature change, and that polysulfide-silicon is most effective in resistance to linear expansion coefficient and external pressure. Therefore, the difference between drying shrinkage and thermal expansion coefficient between various building materials and sealant, as well as the use of sealant, is analyzed, and construction methods derived accordingly, and prevention of defects are considered to be part of the construction project.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to evaluation of effect on bone formation of PRP and fibrin sealant with deproteinized bovine bone(Bio-Oss) grafts on rabbit cranial defect. Material and Methods Twelve rabbits were used as experimental animal Two equal 9mm diameter cranial bone defects were created in each rabbit and immediately grafted with Bio-Oss only, Bio-Oss and PRP, and Bio-Oss and Fibrin sealant. Rabbits were sacrificed at 4 and 8 week. The defects were evaluated by histomorphometric analysis. Results Kruskal-Wallis tests were performed comparing new bone formation via histomorphometric analysis. No statistically significant difference of new bone formation was found between Bio-Oss only, Bio-Oss and PRP, and Bio-Oss and fibrin sealant at 4 and 8 weeks (P>0.05). Conclusion This study fails to find a stimulatory effect of PRP and Fibrin sealant on New bone formation of Bio-Oss grafts by histomorphometric analyses.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the cumulative dental caries rate of pit and fissure sealant in community public health program from 2005 to 2008 follow-up. Methods: The subjects were 4,768 students of 34 elementary schools in Gimcheon. The survey included direct oral examination and cumulative retention rate of pit and fissure sealant from 2005 to 2008. Data were analyzed using PASW statistical package version 18.0 and the level of significance was set at p<0.05. Results: The cumulative retention rate of sealant was 18%, 25%, and 33% after 1 year, 2 years, and 3 years, respectively. In addition, the cumulative retention rate of lower teeth was higher than that of upper teeth. Cumulative dental caries rate increased in sealed group and no sealed group. The cumulative dental caries rate decreased owing to tooth brushing frequency in sealed group and no sealed group. Conclusions: Regular and timely tooth brushing can maintain good oral health condition after tooth sealing. The school based oral health education can prevent loss of sealant and secondary caries.
This study was designed to investigate the using status and awareness of pit and fissure sealant, and how it affects on secondary caries when performed on above of initial caries. After classifying 446 occlusal surface into four groups, performed pit and fissure sealant, induced artificial caries, used DIAGNOdent (Kavo) to measure degree of secondary caries. Also, distributed a questionnaire on dental clinic in metropolitan area to find out using status and awareness of pit and fissure sealant, the following results were obtained. 1) On inspection and percussion, Group 4 corresponding to the enamel caries showed the highest secondary caries after sealant and was statistically significant difference in the order of initial group, stained group, sound group (p<0.05). 2) Inspection showed the highest percentage on tooth fissure caries diagnostic methods before sealant. 3) 56.6% didn't know about DIAGNOdent, 91.6% didn't have it. 4) In clinically, the most cause of secondary caries after sealant was a broken sealant, making caries on the downward. Based on the results of above study, degree of caries under sealant could affect on secondary caries, needs publicity about the use and necessity of objective fluorescence device.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the retention and caries prevention practical effectiveness of fissure sealant and regular checkup with cost-benefit analysis. The data of this study is based on "2000 The Survey of Korean Oral Health" by Ministry of Health & Welfare. This study is to investigate cost-benefit analysis on proper treatment for the decayed, in case of operating fissure sealant on molars at 1 year after eruption of permanent teeth. The obtained results were as follows: (1) Cost-benefit analysis on fissure sealant in 6-75 year old 43,736 thousand Korean people reveals that cost of fissure sealant is 1,610,994 million won and benefit is 69,460,691 million won. (2) Benefit of fissure sealant is 39.51 times as much as cost of fissure sealant. (3) Cost of twice in a year regular checkup is 2,678,544 million won. Indirect cost of regular checkup is 2.6 times as much as direct cost. (4) Cost of fissure sealant and twice in a year regular checkup is 4,289,538 million won, and benefit is 69,460,691 million won. Benefit of fissure sealant and twice in a year regular checkup is 16.2 times as much as cost.

There has recently been some trials to add the fluoride-releasing property to existing fissure sealants and some of them are already commercially available. But, some questions mat naturally be arisen regarding the potential decrease of physical properties by adding the fluoride despite its new caries-inhibiting abilities. This study was performed for the purpose of comparing the shear bond strengths of conventional composite sealant, Fluoride-releasing sealant and glass ionomer sealant, and obtained the results as fellows. 1. Two kinds of composite sealants (Helioseal and Teethmate-A) showed slightly higher bond strength than Fluoride-releasing sealant(Teethmate-F) without any significance(p>0.05). 2. Class ionomer sealant (Fuji III) was much lower than composite sealant in shear bond strength(p<0.05). 3. With the result of this study, it was found that there is little effect on retentive properties of sealants by adding fluoride to amplify the caries-inhibiting properties.

In this paper, viscosity features of sealant (bentonite-cement slurry), which is used for umbrella arch method in tunnel, were studied. The sealant must secure optimal strength and capacity for the waterproof and stabilization of borehole as well as to satisfy groutability. In this study, the variation of viscosity was measured with different mixing processes. With an increase of initial mixing period with water and bentonite mixture, the required time for the rapid increase of viscosity of the sealant is shorten. With increase of mixing period, the possibility of swelling of bentonite will increases and this can lead increase of the viscosity of the mixture. In addition, the behaviors of sealant vary with a drastic increase of the viscosity: thixotropy and rheopexy. Furthermore, the bentonite/water mixing period influences on the bleeding features of the sealant. Further study is required to introduce the guideline, which can be applicable in the field in the aspect of required capacity of the sealants and mixing processes of the ingredients.
