함평만의 간석지 해안지형의 변화 (The Changing Process of the Tidal Landforms in Hampyeung Bay, Southwest Korea)

  • 본 연구는 함평만의 간석지 해안지형의 분포특징과 그 변화과정이다. 함평만은 하천의 유입이 없는 분지형태와 같은 반폐쇄형 만으로, 외해 만 입구는 좁고, 내해로 가면서 넓어지는 형태이다. 이곳의 퇴적물 공급원은 조류와 연안사면에서 이동된 물질이다. 연구지역의 주요 지형요소는 간석지, 갯골, 조간대사주, 해식애, 해안단구 등이다. 간석지형은 입도조성에 따라 뻘 간석지, 사질혼성 간석지로 분류되었다. 뻘 간석지는 갯벌이 간석지와 연속성을 보이며 완만히 이어지는 해안지역에, 그리고 사질혼성 간석지는 해식애와 해안단구 기저 지역에 발달하였다. 일부 해안 지형에서는 신생대 4기 해수면 변동으로 퇴적된 지층이 확인되었다. 10년간 간석지 입도조성 변화 분석에서 모래는 2%, 실트는 6% 증가하였고, 점토는 9% 감소하였다. 오목형 간석지에는 염생식물이 정착해 있다. 염생식물의 분포 면적 변화는 2001년에 2.4km2에서 2009년에는 9.3km2로 약 4배 확대되었다. 같은 시기 염생식물 분포 지역에서 평균입도는 6.5φ에서 4.5φ로 조립화되는 경향을 보였다.

  • Reinforced concrete structures are damaged by concrete carbonation, salt attack, and sulfate attack. The evaluation of the amount of chloride ion from the sea is very important to assess the life expectancy of Reinforced Concrete structures. The incoming salt collector which is developed in Japan has been used until the present, Unfortunately, the incoming salt collector has had a bad reputation which is caused by backward wind. The wind from backward causes the reduction of the amount of collected salt in collector's gauze. The collector was developed for excluding the effect of backward wind. The performance of it was verified from analytic and experimental methods.

광양만에서 분리된 새로운 호염성 Azotobacter insignis 약주에 관하여 (A new Salt requiring Strain of Azotobacter insignis isolated from Kwangyang Bay)

  • A strain of Azotobacter species was isolated from the surface sea water of Kwang-yang Bay in Korea and was identified as Azotobacter insignis. In order to reveal the natural habitat of this microorganism, growth at various salt concentrations was tested with the result of 3% NaCl beins optimum. Only slight growth was detected in the absence of NaCl. This result was thought to prove (in part) that the natural habitat of the strain dealt with is sea water. Fairly good growth was obtained at 6% NaCl concentration. The study of effects of salt on the growth og this strain to various temperatures and pHs has shown that temperature $30{\circ}C and pH 7.0 are Optimum.

  • The first membrane technology applied in the Japanese industry was a. electro-dialysis(ED) process using ion-exchange meabranes. These membranes were first developed in early 50ties and the Japanese government decided to use this method for concentration of sea water to produce salt, which was then produced by solar evaporation. This development program started from 1960 by the Japan monopoly Coop. (at that time). To apply ED process for sea-water concentrat ion it was necessary to develop ion-exchange membranes having very low electric resistance to avoid energy loss due to Joule heat, and those having selectivity to permeate single valent ions only to avoid scale formation in the ED stacks. These Japanese companies, Asahi Glass, Asahi Chemical and Tokuyama Soda, have succeeded to develop such membranes, and until 1971 all of the seven salt manufacturing companies had adopted ED for production of food salt.

  • At the present time the desalination technology of sea water for portable water in islands employs the RO method. The technology which needs complicated pretreatment processes with various chemicals can generate secondary water pollution and the high maintenance costs such as replacements of filters and membranes make islanders nearly impossible to operate. The MVRS technology for desalination of sea water however has several advantages such as constant production of quality portable water and capability of managing broad operating load. The variable-speed turbo-type vapor compressors employed in the system can utilize wind energy which is abundant in most Korean islands. Salt as a by-product can be produced by applying solar energy to the salt-concentrated waste water from the system. This paper discusses the relating topics such as technical and economical viabilities of the new MVRS desalination system for the production of portable water and salt as a by-product using new & renewable sources of energy.

  • The chemical composition of PM$_{2.5}$ was measured at Gosan, Jeju for two weeks each in November 2001 and spring 2002. In the latter part of the measurement period of November 2001, designated as the polluted period in this work, secondarily formed ion components as well as primarily emitted elemental carbon were high. PM$_{2.5}$ mass concentration was also high in this polluted period compared with the yellow sand period, in which daily average of PM $_{10}$ peaked up to 520 $\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥. Increase of major components of anthropogenic origin in the polluted period was not correlated with the variation in sea salt components while increase of crustal components in the yellow sand period was highly correlated with the variation in sea salt components. Trace elements were generally higher in the yellow sand period; however, toxic heavy metals such as zinc, cadmium and lead were the highest in the polluted period.d.d.d.

  • Low-Z particle electron probe X-ray microanalysis (low-Z particle EPMA) was applied to characterize aerosol particles collected at Gosan in Jeju island during an IOP (intensive observation period) for an international ACE-Asia project in April, 2001. Various types of atmospheric particles such as organics, carbon-rich, aluminosilicates, silicon oxide, sodium nitrate, sodium chloride, and ammonium sulfate were observed. The reacted sea salt particles such as sodium nitrate were the most abundantly encountered, but original sea salt particles were rarely observed. Since the Low-Z particle EPMA can provide quantitative information on the chemical composition of aerosol particles, many different particle types on the basis of their chemical compositions were observed and identified. In this study, it is demonstrated that the Low-Z particle EPMA can provide detailed information on the chemical compositions for the aerosol particles collected for six consecutive days in April, 2001, at Gosan super-site.

침적식 온라인 굴절계를 이용한 해수의 염도 측정 (Salinity Determination for Sea Water Using Immersion-Type On-Line Refractometer)

  • 해수의 염도와 온도를 현장에서 측정할 수 있는 침적식 온라인 굴절계를 제작하고 실제 해수와 유사한 2 % 내지 4 %의 염수를 사용하여 그 성능을 조사하였다. 굴절률과 온도를 동시에 측정함으로 온도보상을 신속하게 할 수 있어 염도의 직접측정을 가능하게 하였다. 각기 다른 농도의 염용액에서 측정된 염도의 결과로부터 본 실험의 장치는 안정성과 재현성을 모두 갖는 염도 측정이 가능함을 알았다.

전북 동진강 하구역 일대의 염습지 식물상 및 식생에 관한 연구 (The Study on the Flora and Vegetation of Salt Marshes of Dongjin-river Estuary in Jeonbuk)

  • The purpose of this study was to research about salt marsh flora and vegetation in the Dongjin-river estuary area where has a project for Sea Man Geum Reclaimed Land so that we can foster foundation on restoration of an ecological habitat, development of applicable plant and establishment of a conservation policy after deceloping the reclaimed land for salt marsh vegetation which has great value ecologically. In conclusion, we was distributed that there are 7 families 21 genera, 25 species, 2 varieties of vascular plant at the Dongjin-river estuary area which have 27 taxa in total and are $0.64\%$ among 4,191 of korean vascular plant. There are also 2 family, 2 genus, 2 species of a naturalized plant which are $1.1\%$ of indicator of a naturalized plant salt marsh vegetation of the downstream are very much affected by the time of inundation, tidal water so that a low degree of salt marsh has frequent flooding by sea water and has a pure group of Suaeda japonica. A Phragmites communis, Carex scabrifolia are distributed mainly around a waterway of salt marsh and Zoysia sinica, Atriplex subcordata, Phragmites communis are living in stock as forming into patch around medium salt marsh. Suaeda asparagoides, Phacelurus latifolius are living around a little high ground and a Phragmites communis is a behind vegetation of Phacelurus latifolius and a part of the Phragmites communis are living along with waterway in a salt marsh as a community. By the 2-M method twelve plant communities were recognized ; Suaeda japonica. Carex scabrifolia, Zoysia sinica, Artemisia scoparia, Phacelurus latifolius, Phragmites communis, Suaeda maritima, Suaeda japonica-Atriplex gmelini, Phragmites communis-Suaeda japonica, Suaeda japonica-Salicornia herbacea, Salicornia herbacea-Suaeda aspar-agoides and Scirpus planiculmis community. The actual vegetation map was constructed on the grounds of the communities classified and other data.

해양소재를 이용한 마스크팩의 유용성 : 피부재생효과 (Usefullness of Mask Pack Sheets Including Marine Materials: Skin Regeneration Effect)

  • Minerals from marine materials such as deep ocean water and Dead Sea water have been used since ancient times. We made a mask pack sheet including deep ocean water and salt from the Dead Sea and evaluated the function of the mask pack sheet through animal study. Three full-thickness skin defects were made on the backs of Sprague-Dawley rats. The wounds were left untreated in group Con, and mask pack sheets including deep ocean water or deep ocean water and Dead Sea water were used as treatment for 20 min on the skin of animals in groups DP and DDP, respectively. We analyzed the gross, histological and biochemical findings. Groups DDP and DP showed decreases in wound size, as compared to group Con at 7 days after wound infliction. The histological findings revealed that wound healing had progressed further in groups DP and DDP than in group Con, with more rapid collagen deposition and regression of neutrophils. Also, the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor and transforming growth factor ${\beta}1$ were increased in groups DDP and DP compared with those in group Con at 3 days after wound infliction. Mask sheet packs including deep ocean water and Dead Sea salt affected wound healing by reducing the inflammatory phase and stimulated wound contracture by facilitating the deposition of collagen.
