  • In this paper, arc Zn thermal spray coating was carried out on the SS400 steel, and then various electrochemical characteristics and surface damage behavior of Zn thermal spray coating layer were analyzed. As the results, the potential of Zn thermal spray coating layer presented driving voltage above 300 mV compare to that of SS400 steel. The passivity characteristic in anodic polarization curve was not presented. It was adequate to as sacrificial anode material. In the surface damage after galvanostatic experiments, uniform corrosion tendency of Zn thermal spray coating layer was clearly observed with acceleration of the dissolution reaction. In conclusion, Zn thermal spray coating could be determined to represent the corrosion protection effect by stable sacrificial anodic cathodic protection method in seawater because it had sufficient driving voltage and uniform corrosion damage tendency for the SS400 steel.

  • Multi-regression statistical analyses were applied for the water quality data of shallow alluvial ground water (n = 47) collected from the Youngdeok area, in order to quantitatively generalize the natural (non-anthropogenic) causes of regional water quality variation. Seven samples having the high contamination index ( $C_{a}$ > 3) reflect the striong effects by anthropogenic activity. Most of the alluvial groundwaters have acquired their quality primarily due to the dissolution of carbonate minerals. The results of multi-regression analysis show that chlorine is mainly derived from seawater effect. Sulfur isotopic compositions of dissolved sulfur and the S $O_4$/Cl ratio also enable us to discriminate the samples (n = 18) which are affected by atmospheric input of marine aerosol (sea-spray) and also by mixing between freshwater and seawater. Hydrogen and oxygen isotope data of the samples collected lie close to the local meteoric water line obtained from nearby Pohang city but has lower slope (5.45) on the $\delta$D-$^{18}$ O plot, indicating that alluvial groundwater was recharged from infiltrated meteoric water which has undergone some degree of kinetic evaporation. The estimated initial isotopic composition of the recharged water ($\delta$D = -74.8$^{0}$ /$_{00}$, $\delta$$^{18}$ O = -10.8$^{[-1000]}$ /$_{[-1000]}$ ) suggests that the alluvial ground water recharge largely occurs during summer storm events.s.s.

  • We propose an efficient method to express water spray effects by adaptively modeling air particles in particle-based water simulation. In real world, water and air continuously interacts with each other around free surfaces and this phenomenon is commonly observed in waterfall or sea with rough waves. Due to thin spray water, the interfaces between water and air become vague and the interactions between them lead to heavy vortex phenomenon. To express this phenomenon, we propose methods of 1) generating adaptive air cell in particle-based water simulation, 2) expressing water spray effects by creating and evolving air particles in the adaptive air cells, and 3) guaranteeing robustness of simulation by solving drifting problem occurred when adjacent air particles are insufficient. Experiments convincingly demonstrate that the proposed approach is efficient and easy to use while delivering high-quality results.

  • Due to excellent corrosion resistance, in particular against sea water, Al-2wt.$\%$Zn alloys have been used as the sacrifice anode material for tube of the ORV. Al-2wt.$\%$Zn alloys thermal-sprayed coating, however, were spalled on the lower part of ORV due to the lack of bonding strength between base material and coating layer and the dropping energy of sea water, To overcome the problems of the thermal spray coating, we developed the cladded tube manufacturing process by coextrusion of the clad and base metal. The corrosion resistance of cladded tube was improved by two times at least, compared with that of the present thermal spray coated vaporizer tubes.

  • ORV which vaporizes LNG to NG is consisted of tube and header whose substrate is aluminum alloy. The corrosion of the tube is very severe because of sea water being used as the heating source. In this research to protect ORV substrate material, the corrosion behavior of aluminum alloys was investigated for the sacrificial role of Al-Zn alloy for ORV tubes. The electrochemical behavior of aluminum alloys in sea water was investigated. The corrosion behavior of thermally-sprayed and cladded samples were compared through salt spray tests. Al-Zn alloy can act as a sacrificial anode and cladded Al-Zn alloy has a better corrosion resistance than that of thermally sprayed one. The galvanic effect of Al-Zn to substrate material was conformed from scratched sample tests.

  • Many surface protection methods have been developed to apply for constructional steels used under severe corrosive environment. Thermal spray coating has been known to be an attractive technique due to its relatively high coating speed. Furthermore high corrosion resistance of coated film with thermal spray is required to expand its application. Four types of coated films(DFT:300 um) such as pure zinc, pure aluminum and two Al-Zn alloy (Al:Zn=85:15 and Al:Zn=95:5) onto the carbon steel (SS401) were prepared with arc spray, and the corrosion behavior of their samples were evaluated by electrochemical method in this study. Pure aluminum sample showed high corrosion resistance behavior exposed to sea water solution and pure zinc and alloy (Al:Zn=95:5) samples followed pure aluminum sample. The other alloy(Al:Zn=85:15) so called galvalume coated onto the carbon steel ranks the 4th corrosion resistance in this study. The results of porosity ratio of those samples by observation are well matched with the electrochemical data.

  • In this study, the evolution and origin of major dissolved constituents of crystalline bedrock groundwater in a coastal area were evaluated using multivariate statistical and groundwater quality analyses. The groundwater types mostly belonged to the $Na(Ca)-HCO_3$ and $Ca-HCO_3$ types, indicating the effect of cation exchange. Stable isotopes of water showed two areas divided by first and secondary evaporative effects, indicating a pattern of rapid hydrological cycling. Saturation indices of minerals showed undersaturation states. Thus, the degree of evolution of groundwater is suggested as in the low to intermediate stage, based on field and laboratory analytical conditions. According to the principal component analysis (PCA) results, the chemical components of EC, $Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, $K^+$, $HCO_3{^-}$, $SO{_4}^{2-}$ (PCA 1), $F^-$ (PCA 3), $SiO_2$ (PCA 4), and $Fe^{2+}$ (PCA 5) are derived from various water-rock interactions. However, $NO_3{^-}$, $Na^+$, and $Cl^-$ (PCA 2) represented the chemical characteristics of both anthropogenic sources and natural sea spray.

  • Arc thermal spray coating using Al-3%Mg thermal spray wire was carried out to prevent steel from corrosion damage under the marine environment. Post-sealing was applied to Al-3%Mg spray coating treatment using organic/inorganic composite ceramics in order to improve the corrosion resistance of the as-sprayed coating. The results of various electrochemical experiments with sealing treatment indicated that the improvement in corrosion resistance was observed due to low current density in all applied potential range during anodic and cathodic polarization experiments. Futhermore, the natural potential measurement exhibited severe potential fluctuation due to influence of micro-crack presence on the surface of sealed thermal spray coating layer. In addition, the sealed layer was easily eliminated during anodic polarization. Nevertheless, Al-3%Mg spray coating layer improved corrosion resistance by sealing treatment because the sealed coating efficiency was determined to be 92.11%, indicating the exterior environment barrier effect which is based on the Tafel analysis.

  • In this research, we have developed a manufacturing process for seawater salt by horizontal spray drying technique using the deep ocean water and seaweed(sea tangle). Deep ocean water, strong acidic electrolyzed water and strong alkaline electrolyzed water were used as extraction solvent of seaweed. Sodium content in seaweed extract solution by strong alkaline electrolyzed water was 1.63(mg/g), which was 3.5 times lower than of seaweed extract by strong acidic electrolyzed water. Major mineral content(Na, K, Ca) in seawater salt by deep ocean water were higher than strong acidic electrolyzed water and strong alkaline electrolyzed water. On the contrary, Mg contents in seawater salt by deep ocean water were lower than strong acidic electrolyzed water and strong alkaline electrolyzed water. Based on the results of seawater salt production using seaweed, it is possible to make law-salt efficiently.

  • We have collected hydrogeochemical data of shallow groundwaters in the Uljin area located at eastern coastal area of Korea. Geostatistical analysis (ANOVA test, cluster analysis, and factor analysis) of the collected data sets was pert'onned, in order to evaluate both the spatial and/or temporal variation of water quality data and the groundwater contamination, as weJl as the principal reactions occurring in the aquifer. Results of the ANOVA test show that regional water chemistry are not significantly changed spatially in eight watersheds. However, some ions such as $Ca^{2+}$, $HCO_{3}^{-}$ and $SO_{4}^{2-}$ show a meaningful watershed variation. Water chemistry variation according to sampling time (season) is not shown, except for $SO_{4}^{2-}$. The cluster analysis shows that significant water chemistry variation is eXplained by the distance from the coast. Factor analysis indicates that the water chemistry is changed according to various factors as follows: in the order of decreasing importance, water-rock interaction (mainly, carbonate dissolution), sea-salt spraying, and then contamination by fertilizers and agrochemicals.
