Thermal expension of the ball screw in semi-closed loop type CNC Lathe directly introduces positioning error along the travel axis. In this paper the thermal displacement of the ball screw is estimated by using macro variabie. The estimated dispacement of the ball screw are given to the NC in the form of pitch error compensation data into time interval. The thermal behaviour of the ball screw of the CNC Lasthe under the constant driving conditions was measured to examine the effectiveness of this compensation method. The results showed that thermal displacment of the ball screw were the positioning accuracy could be maintained to better then 6 .mu.m while using this compensation.

The screw-feeders are used at gathering the minerals at the seafloor, transportation of the sewage, and at the beverage industry. This study was carried out to study solid-liquid mixture hydraulic transport of solid particles in a horizontal and inclined screw-feeders with rotating. This study is about the amount of the alteration amount of the material transportation for regular transportation. In this study a clear acrylic pipe was used in order to observe the movement of solid particles. Relates to the angle, rpm and ratio of pitch ; finding the optimum condition and knowing about designing the screw feeders shape. As a result, we found the suitable rpm and a suitable angle. According to the experiment, the best rpm and angle are 100-200rpm and $10^{\circ}$, respectively.
Extrusion is one of the most important operations in the polymer-processing industry. Development of models for extrusion and computer tools offer a route to developing reliable and optimized process designs. The models are based on the analysis of physical phenomena encountered during the process. Balance equations for mass, momentum and energy are fundamental to the problem. A predictive computer model has been developed for the single screw extruders with conventional screws of different geometry. The model takes into account melting zones of the extruder and describes an operation of the extruder system, making it possible to predict mass flow rate of the polymer, pressure and velocity profiles along the extruder screw channel. The simulation parameters are the material and rheological properties of the polymer; the screw pitch, and screw speed.

An electro-mechanical actuator (EMA) is an actuator that combines an electric motor with a mechanical power transmission elements, and it is suitable for urban air mobility (UAM) in terms of design freedom and maintenance. In this paper, the author presents the research results of the EMA that controls the rotor blade pitch angle of UAM. The actuator is based on an inverted roller screw and controls the blade pitch angle through a two-bar linkage. The dynamic equations for the actuator alone and the blade pitching motion with actuator were derived. For the latter, the equivalent moment of inertia is variable depending on the link angle due to the two-bar linkage. The variations of the equivalent moments of inertia are analyzed and compared in terms of the nut motion and the blade pitch motion. For an example model, the variation of the equivalent moment of inertia of the former is smaller than the latter, so it is judged that the dynamic equations derived from the point of view of the nut motion is suitable for the controller design.
The purpose of this paper is to develop the CFD code to consider the viscous flow features of the marine propeller. The flow of the marine propeller has been numerically analyzed by using three dimensional viscous incompressible Navier-Stokes equation. The model used in this study is Screw B with 4 blades whose pitch ratio is 1 in Ka-4-55 screw series. The result of the analysis was compared with panel method.

There have been strong demands for micro size screw with high precision due to miniaturization and integration trends for electronic products such as Hard Disk Drives. The thread rolling process for screw manufacturing are lower unit cost, reduced material utilization, and superior mechanical properties compared to the machining process. But little work has been done on the thread rolling of micro size screw. In this paper, we investigate thread rolling process using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and parameter study for screw manufacturing. And we also carried out compression tests to obtain the material property and to implement into the FE tool for the numerical simulation. In case that parameter of relative position oldies is half length of pitch for maintaining the continuous thread profiles, we found that shear friction factor was 0.9 during the thread rolling process using FEA. We are trying to develop the thread rolling process using the FE-simulation to manufacture screws which have been commonly produced from the industrial level fabrication at present.

To investigate the bone remodeling phenomenon around implant device, 3-D mathematical simulation model was developed. Strain energy density from the finite element method was chosen for the indicator for remodeling process. Recursive calculations continued until converged results between FEM and mathematical model. For a osteo-integration example, bone-remodeling process in a implanted tibia of beagle was adapted. Calculated results indicated that the bone densities around screw pitch were increased which indicates firm fixations between the bone and implant. Screw design parameters have an influence on initial stability of the implant rather than remodeling process.

We have developed a human-sized BWR(biped walking robot) driven by a new actuator based on the ball screw which has high strength and high gar ratio. Each leg of the robot is composed of three pitch joints and one roll joint. In all, a 10 degree-of-freedom robot with two balancing joints was developed. For the purpose of autonomous walking and higher performance, we improved the previous developed BWR. We improved the motor drive efficiency, designed the ball screw actuator in a modular type, and simplified the electric wires. Through this modification, we achieved better performance in walking.

We developed a new type of human-sized BWR (biped walking robot) driven by a new actuator based on the ball screw which has high strength and high gear ratio. Each leg of the robot is composed of three pitch joints and one roll joint. In all, a 10 degree-of-freedom robot with two balancing joints was developed. A new type of actuator for the robot is proposed, which is composed of four bar link mechanism driven by the ball screw. The robot overcomes the limit of the driving torque of conventional BWRs. The BWR was designed to walk autonomously by adapting small DC motors for the robot actuators and has a space to board DC battery and controllers. In the performance test, the BWR performed sitting-up and down motion, and walking motion. Through the test, we found the possibility of a high performance biped-walking.

Object : The clinical uses of screws are increasing with broader applications in spinal disorders. When screws are inserted repeatedly to achieve optimal position, tips of screw pitch may become damaged during insertion even though there are significant differences in the moduli of elasticity between bone and titanium. The effect of repeated screw insertion on pullout resistance was investigated. Methods : Three different titanium screws(cortical lateral mass screw, cancellous lateral mass screw and cervical vertebral body screw) were inserted into the synthetic cancellous material and then extracted axially at a rate of 2.4mm/min using Instron(Model TT-D, Canton, MA). Each set of screws was inserted and pulled out three times. There were six screws in each group. The insertional torque was measured with a torque wrench during insertion. Pullout strength was recorded with a digital oscilloscope. Results : The mean pullout force measurements for the cortical lateral mass screws($185.66N{\pm}42.60$, $167.10N{\pm}27.01$ and $162.52 N{\pm}23.83$ for first, second and third pullout respectively : p=0.03) and the cervical vertebral body screws($386.0N{\pm}24.1$, $360.2N{\pm}17.5$ and $330.9N{\pm}16.7$ : p=0.0024) showed consecutive decrease in pullout resistance after each pullout, whereas the cancellous lateral mass screws did not($194.00N{\pm}36.47$, $219.24N{\pm}26.58$ and 199.49N(36.63 : p=0.24). The SEM after insertion and pullout three times showed a blunting in the tip of the screw pitch and a smearing of the screw surface. Conclusions : Repetitive screw insertion and pullout resulted in the decrease of pullout resistance in certain screws possibly caused by blunting the screw tip. This means screw tips suffer deformations during either repeated insertion or pullout. Thus, the screws that have been inserted should not be used for the final construct.
