원자모형에 기초한 예비과학교사들의 과학의 본성에 대한 인식 (Recognition of the Nature of Science by Preservice Science Teachers on the Basis of the Atomic Model)

  • 이 연구는 원자모형 사례를 이용한 과학의 본성 검사지를 사용하여 중등예비 과학교사들이 가지고 있는 과학의 본성에 대한 인식이 '원자모형'이라는 과학지식과 관련되어 어떻게 드러나는지를 살펴보고, 기존의 선행연구와 비교해 보았다. '모형에 관한 인식', '과학지식의 잠정성', '과학에서의 주관성', '추론과 상상력의 사용', '보편적인 과학적 방법에 대한 잘못된 신념', '과학과 예술의 비교'라는 6 관점을 조사하였다. 연구결과, 예비과학교사들은 과학지식(구름원자모형)의 잠정성, 과학에서의 주관성(톰슨과 러더퍼드의 알파입자 산란실험에 대한 해석)에 대해 비교적 잘 이해하고 있는 것으로 나타난 반면, 보편적인 과학적 방법과 관련하여 가장 바람직하지 못한 인식을 드러냈다. 모형(원자모형)에 관한 인식과 과학(보어의 원자모형)과 예술(피카소의 작품)을 비교하는 영역에서는 존재론적 관점과 구성주의적 관점이 혼재되어 나타났으며, 과학연구에서 상상력의 사용은 필수적인 동시에 최대한 자제되어야 한다는 다소 모순된 생각을 보여줬다. '모형'이나 '과학이론'과 같은 일반적인 용어를 사용하여 조사된 기존의 선행연구들을 본 연구결과와 비교한 결과, 과학지식의 잠정성에 대해 보다 높은 긍정을 나타내게 했으며, 과학자의 연구방법에 대해 구체적인 과학자를 제시하였을 때, 응답자들은 좀 더 바람직한 인식을 드러내는 경향을 보였다.

Revision of the Scientific Name for "Min-be-do-ra-chi" Identified Previously as Zoarchias glaber in Korea

  • The Korean stichaeid fish "Min-be-do-ra-chi", reported previously as Zoarchias glaber, is reviewed taxonomically and described on the basis of a single specimen collected from Jeju Island, Korea. "Min-be-do-ra-chi" was identified as Z. major by the following morphological characteristics: U-shaped markings on the dorsal and anal fins, 31 dorsal fin spines, 78 dorsal fin soft rays, 87 anal fin soft rays, and 109 vertebrae. In contrast, Z. glaber has triangular markings on the dorsal and anal fins, 92-96 anal fin soft rays, and 112-122 vertebrae. Therefore, our results suggest that the scientific name of this species reported previously as Z. glaber should be changed to Z. major.

  • This paper described the contents of the WTO (world trade organization) SPS (world trade organization) Agreement and trends in the WTO SPS provisions such as equivalence, localization, transparency, and risk assessment. The purpose of the WTO SPS agreement is to promote international trade by preventing arbitrary and unreasonable use of SPS measures, which are the rights of a country for the protection of human health and animal and plant health, and by abolishing the non-tariff barriers. To this end, the requirements for implementing the SPS measures taken by the importing country are restricted to those that can scientifically prove to be inevitable for SPS protection. The major provisions in WTO SPS agreement were elaborated to promote international trades. When trade-restricted SPS measures such as prohibition of imports are made, a scientific basis should be provided. Therefore, it is essential to provide scientific evidence based on risk analysis to protect people's health from potentially harmful imported foods.

Piaget이론(理論)의 비판(批判)에 관한 일소고(一小考) -방법론(方法論) 중심(中心)으로- (A Review of the Literature on Piaget's Methodolgical Approach)

  • The purpose of this paper was to review critiques on methodological problems relating to Piaget's researches in terms of its scientific nature. On the basis of review of literature, the following problems were pointed out: 1. Notwithstanding Piaget's emphasis on the scientific requirement for verification, Piaget was against the deductive method typical of scientific verification. 2. Piaget's theory was so vague that it couldn't be falsified. 3. Piaget ignored criticism of his method, and this was viewed as unscientific in the eyes of most scientists. 4. Avoiding the antecedent-consequence sequence of scientific experimentation, Piaget took the descriptive, rather than the explanative nature. 5. Piaget didn't accept individual differences in cognitive style in his research paradigm. 6. Piaget's experimental procedures looked very simple but they were too complex to understand what was happening. 7. Although Piaget's major ideas treated the child as the active constructor of reality, the child's experimental tasks were structured by experimenter. 8. Piaget's clinical method depended heavily upon language although the procedures required manipulation of objects. 9. Piaget always justified his experiments in terms of protocois selected from all the responses obtained. However, these protocols may not be the most representative responses or behaviors showing the child's cognitive structure.

과학적 맥락의 논의 과제 해결 과정에서 나타나는 초등학생들의 논의 과정 요소의 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of the Component of Argumentation in the Process of Solving Scientific Argument Tasks among Elementary Students)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of scientific argumentation and its development in the process of mutual discussion activities by elementary school students in the 5th grade. The results of this study can be summarized as below: First, students used diversity argumentation components for solving the given argumentation theme, however, most students used the assertion or the basis of a simple expression of their own thoughts as a high ratio, and components of a one directional explanatory argumentation process rather than components of a mutual communicative argumentation process. Second, an asymmetric group showed a high-use ratio of communicative argumentation components and achieved argumentation activities harmoniously between a symmetric group and an asymmetric group in organization of groups for solving argumentation themes. It was found that students in the transitional period showed the highest rate of participation within the discussion process. Moreover, they also showed the highest rate of development of discussion skills whilst in the process of using scientific problems. In conclusion, this phenomenon is caused by highlighting the mutual action between the teacher and the student rather than placing an emphasis on the mutual action among students during field instructions.

송대(宋代) 교정의서국(校定醫書局)에 대한 고찰 -학문연구의 근거 구축의 관점을 중심으로- (The Study about GyoJungEuiSeoGook of Song Dynasty -On the basis of viewpoint in building the foundation of scientific research-)

  • The GyoJungEuiSeoGook(校定醫書局, the bureau for revising of medical books) which was established in the 2nd year of InJong GaWoou of Song dynasty, made comparative analyzation about various kinds of publication and reference materials of all classical medical books that was published until Jin Han and Su Dang dynasty, revised the medical books like as Bozushinnongboncho(補注神農本草), Zungkwangbozuhwangjenegyungsomun(重廣補注黃帝內經素問), Shanghanlon(傷寒論), Bigupchunggumyobang (備急千金要方), Magkyung(脈經), Oedaebiyo(外臺備要), Hwangjechimgugapeulgyung(黃帝鍼灸甲乙經), Cchunggumikbang(千金翼方) etc. The signification of such revision was not only to preserve the materials which may be lost before, bibliographically and also make the books of Hwangjenegyung(黃帝內經), Shanghanlon(傷寒論) etc. become more regularly. And it made the foundation of Korean Medical research depends on the documentary records so as to make it have big development by deductive method till the beginning of modern age. The success of GyoJungEuiSeoGook(校定醫書局) indicates that the stagnation of Korean Medical research due to it's behind with the development of politics-economy, social culture and scientific technology which based on western scientific culture. So we may draw the conclusion that the success of scientific research needs to parallel with the external and internal factors of the surrounding science.

Identification of Carotenoids from Green Alga Haematococcus pluvialis by HPLC and LC-MS (APCI) and Their Antioxidant Properties

  • Haematococcus pluvial is, a green alga, accumulates astaxanthin (3,3'-dihydroxy-$\beta$,$\beta$'-carotene-4,4'-dione) upto 2-3% on a dry weight basis. In the present study, identification of carotenoids from Haematococcus cyst cell extract by HPLC and LC-MS (APCI) and their antioxidant properties were evaluated in in vitro model systems. The extract exhibited 89% and 78% antioxidant activities in the $\beta$-carotene linoleate model and the hydroxyl radical scavenging model, at 9 ppm of total carotenoid, respectively. The extract also showed 80%, 85%, and 79% antioxidant activities against lipid peroxidation in the kidney, brain, and liver of rats. Low-density lipoprotein oxidation induced by $Cu^{2+}$ ions was also protected (45%, 64%, and 75%) by the extract in a dose-dependent manner with different carotenoid levels. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances concentration in the blood, liver, and kidney of rats were also significantly (p<0.005) decreased in H. pluvialis-treated rats. The potent antioxidant activity is attributable to various carotenoids present in the extract.

6학년 학생의 과학에 대한 인식론적 신념과 학습 관련 요소들과의 관계 분석 (Analysis of Relation between Features of Sixth Grade Elementary Students' Epistemological Beliefs about Science and Factors Related Students' Learning)

  • Prior research has reported that student epistemological beliefs might affect their participation in learning and the process of conceptual change. The purposes of this study were to investigate the characteristics of sixth grade students epistemological beliefs about science and the relation between their epistemological beliefs about science and factors related their learning. For this research questions, 245 sixth grade students participated and various test instruments were used in this study. Students answered two types of questionnaires on epistemological beliefs about science and three test instruments on factors related students' learning(achievement in science, science inquiry skills, and cognitive levels). The results of this study were as follows. First, a large number of elementary school students believed that the purpose of science to perform activities like simple experiments. A lot of students believed that scientific knowledge was changeable according to the nature of scientific knowledge and that scientific knowledge could be learnt on their own. Also, many students believed experiment results to be basis on which to form personal scientific conceptions. Second, students who believed in more modern epistemology about science represented higher levels of science learning achievement, science inquiry skills, and cognitive levels. Therefore, when developing science curriculum, science educators need to consider how to develop student modern epistemological beliefs about science.

과학기술분야 전문정보센터의 효율적인 정보서비스 방안 (A Study on the Effective Information Service of Specialized Information Center in Scientific & Technological Fields)

  • 본 연구에서는 한국과학기술정보연구원(KISTI)에서 지정하여 지원하고 있는 우리나라 과학기술분야 전문정보센터를 대상으로 정보서비스 체계 전반에 대한 현황 및 문제점을 분석$\cdot$파악하고 이를 토대로 최신의 정보기술을 반영$\cdot$적용한 우리나라 과학기술분야 전문정보센터의 효율적인 정보서비스 방안을 제시하였다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 선행연구 분석, 설문조사, 해당기관 직접방문을 통한 관련자 면담, 해당기관 홈페이지의 관련 사이트 분석, 그리고 관련 전문가로 구성된 상시협의체의 회의를 통한 Brainstorming 방범 등을 병행하여 실시하였다.
