  • The recent sudden increase of big data has characteristics such as continuous generation of data, large amount, and unstructured format. The existing relational database technologies are inadequate to handle such big data due to the limited processing speed and the significant storage expansion cost. Thus, big data processing technologies, which are normally based on distributed file systems, distributed database management, and parallel processing technologies, have arisen as a core technology to implement big data repositories. In this paper, we propose a design methodology for large-scale database based on MongoDB by extending the information engineering methodology based on E-R data model.

  • Recent advancements in electronic devices and wireless communication technologies, particularly the rise of 5G, have raised concerns about the escalating electromagnetic pollution and its potential adverse impacts on human health and electronics. As a result, the demand for effective electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials has grown significantly. Traditional materials face limitations in providing optimal solutions owing to inadequacy and low performance due to small thickness. MXene-based composite materials have emerged as promising candidates in this context owing to their exceptional electrical properties, high conductivity, and superior EMI shielding efficiency across a broad frequency range. This review examines the recent developments and advantages of MXene-based composite materials in EMI shielding applications, emphasizing their potential to address the challenges posed by electromagnetic pollution and to foster advancements in modern electronics systems and vital technologies.

  • Purpose: Recent trends have shown that the usage of big data analysis is becoming the core of identifying promising future technologies and emerging technologies. Accordingly, applying these trends by analyzing defense related data in such sources as journals, articles, and news will provide crucial clues in predicting and identifying core future technologies that can be used to develop creative and unprecedented future weapon systems that could change the warfare. Methods: To identify technology fields that are closely related to the 4th industrial revolution and recent technology development trends, environmental analysis, text mining, and military applicability survey have been included in the process. After the identification of core technologies that are militarily applicable, future weapon systems based on these technologies as well as their operation concepts are suggested. Results: Through the study, 73 important trends, from which 11 mega trends are derived, are identified. These mega trends can be expressed by 13 promising technology fields. From these technology fields, 248 promising future technologies are identified. Afterwards, further assessment is performed, which leads to the selection of 63 core technologies from the pool. These are named as "future defense technologies" which then become the bases for 40 future weapons systems that the military can use. Conclusion: Predicting future technologies using text mining analysis have been attempted by various organizations across the globe, especially in the fields related to the 4th industrial revolution. However, the application of it in the field of defense industry is unprecedented. Therefore, this study is meaningful in that it not only enables the military personnel to see promising future technologies that can be utilized for future weapon system development, but helps one to predict the future defense technologies using the method introduced in the paper.

  • Virtual reality (VR) technologies, which have been improved of late, offer experiences closer to reality than before. While VR technologies are expected to be an effective medium if used in learning content that cannot be offered in real life, distraction factors in VR technologies may prevent the users' presence and flow, making these technologies ineffective. Therefore, this study, through experiment and observation, analyzed the effect of distraction factors on the user's experience perception and learning effect when using HMD-based immersive VR. Experimental results revealed that the distraction factors were shown to have a negative, albeit not generally significant (except for tactile interactivity), effect on vividness, tactile interactivity, locomotive interactivity, presence, and flow. Ultimately, they were shown to have a negative effect on learning.

  • Science-based Industry which is future growth industry leading national competitiveness in knowledge-based society is highly science-dependent field when developing technologies. And highly science-based field is absolutely dependent on core scholarly papers. Due to researchers' need of academic papers related to developing technologies and advances of linking technologies, it is possible to link service between patents and scholarly papers. This paper's purpose is to describe on implementation linking service between EPO patent and papers that cited on search reports. First, it describe case study of other linking services. Second, it describes a kinds of data used in linking services. Lastly, it describe implementation of linking different kinds of contents (patents and papers) in KISTI.

  • This study aims to describe the overall aspects of future technologies in Korea based on the new taxonomy of technology foresight ; Theme, Area and Paradigm. This taxonomy is designed to overcome and supplement several studies on technology foresights which are judged not to capture the whole aspects of future technologies. Future technologies in Korea will be influenced by the Information and Communication Technology Paradigm over 20-30 years, and by the Biotechnology Paradigm after that period. Expansion of researches in electronics, information and communication is noticeable features in engineering. The application of biotechnology technique and health/environment technologies are emerging in bioscience area. Also there appear new areas related to the trends of engineering and bioscience in natural science. Current research patterns focusing physics, chemistry and engineering in Korea should be changed to those of the advanced countries which emphasize bioscience. Time lag to the world frontier is over 5-6 years, but the lag is expected to be reduced. The shortage of manpower and research funds are pointed as the biggest barrier for the realization of future technologies.

  • Lignocellulosic biomass conversion to biofuels such as ethanol and other value-added bio-products including activated carbons has attracted much attention. The development of an efficient, cost-effective, and eco-friendly pretreatment process is a major challenge in lignocellulosic biomass to biofuel conversion. Although several modern pretreatment technologies have been introduced, few promising technologies have been reported. Microwave irradiation or microwave-assisted methods (physical and chemical) for pretreatment (disintegration) of biomass have been gaining popularity over the last few years owing to their high heating efficiency, lower energy requirements, and easy operation. Acid and alkali pretreatments assisted by microwave heating meanwhile have been widely used for different types of lignocellulosic biomass conversion. Additional advantages of microwave-based pretreatments include faster treatment time, selective processing, instantaneous control, and acceleration of the reaction rate. The present review provides insights into the current research and advantages of using microwave-assisted pretreatment technologies for the conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to fermentable sugars in the process of cellulosic ethanol production.

  • Cancers are based upon an array of orchestrated genetic changes and the identification of changes causally related to the carcinogenic process. To elucidate the mechanism of cancer carcinogenesis, it is necessary to reconstruct these molecular events at each level. Microarray technologies have been extensively used to evaluate genetic alterations associated with cancer onset and progression in clinical oncology. The clinical impact of the genomic alterations identified by microarray technologies are growing rapidly and array analysis has been evolving into a diagnostic tool to better identify high-risk patients and predict patient outcomes from their genomic profiles. Here, we discuss the state-of-the-art microarray technologies and their applications in clinical oncology, and describe the potential benefits of these analysis in the clinical implications and biological insights of cancer biology.
