  • This study examines social identity and self-identity as the antecedents of the theory of planned behavior (TPB) model in predicting purchase intention of certified coffee, whereas perceived trustworthiness (PT) is evaluated whether it directly affects intention and/or indirectly through attitude. In addition, ethics and luxury are investigated as the salient beliefs affecting attitude formation in this regard. A face-to-face survey was conducted with 727 coffee consumers in Thailand. Confirmatory factor analysis is applied to assess the adequacy of the model, followed by structural equation modeling to evaluate the hypotheses proposed for the relationships between constructs in an extended TPB model. The results confirm that self-identity is the most influential antecedent on attitude when compared to social identity, and attitude, in turn, is the strongest determinant in predicting purchase intention. PT has a direct positive effect on purchase intention, meanwhile, ethical, luxury beliefs, and PT are confirmed to portrait the attitude formation. As such the marketing campaigns can address manipulating consumers' beliefs on both ethical and luxury aspects as well as PT, along with consumers' social identity and self-identity to fortify a positive attitude toward certified coffee. Then the actual purchase behavior can be foreseen based on empirical evidence.

  • Satellite attitude-control actuators are equipped with a reaction wheel for three-axis attitude control. The reaction wheel rotates a motor inside the actuator to generate torque in the vector direction. When using the reaction wheel, there are restrictions on the torque values generated as the motor rotates. The torque value of the reaction wheels mounted on small satellites is approximately 10 mNm, and high values are not used. Therefore, three-axis attitude control of a small satellite is possible using a reaction wheel, but this method is not suitable for missions that require rapid attitude control at a specific time. As a technology to overcome the small torque value of the reaction wheel, the control moment gyro (CMG) is currently in wide use as a rapid attitude-control actuator in space satellites. The CMG has an internal gimbal mounted at a right angle to the rotation motor and generates a large torque value. In general, when the gimbal operates, a torque value approximately 100 times greater is generated, making it suitable for rapid posture maneuvering. Currently, we are developing a technology for mounting a controlled moment gyro on a small satellite, and here we share the development status of an 800 mNm CMG.

The pretest was implemented to measure the science-related attitude, and the posttest was implemented to measure the science-related attitude, the academic achievement, and problem solving ability. The collected data were analyzed by ANCOVA and Correlation Analysis with SPSS program. The results are as follows: First, the experimental group was not significantly different from the control group in the science-related attitude and in the academic achievement(p>.05). Second, the experimental group significantly showed much better problem solving ability than the control group(p<.05). Third, a significant correlation was recognized between the academic achievement and the problem solving ability(p<.01).

  • This study investigated gender differences in science-related attitude and to analyze association patterns among social factors affecting the differences. The relationships between student's science-related attitude and four variables - schools, teachers, friends and parents influencing the attitude were analysed. The questionnaire, which identifies whether the four variables influence students' science-related attitudes, were specially constructed and simultaneously administered with test of science-related attitudes (TOSRA) to 603 subjects: junior high, and high school students. Both boys and girls were not significantly different at TOSRA scores; however, by multiple regression analysis, the boys' TOSRA scores were influenced by the variable of parents and the girls' scores were influenced by teachers and friends. Social factors evoking gender differences on science-related attitude do not influence equally at everyday life of boys and girls. As the gender differences in science-related attitude decrease, perceptual changes of parents and teachers, the two most influential factors to make the differences should be important to drag females in science-related work as a desired occupation for women.

  • This paper addresses the performance of three different types of attitude control systems for the Quad-rotor UAV to perform the flip maneuver. For this purpose, Quad-rotor UAV's 6-DOF dynamic model is derived, and it was used for designing an attitude controller of the Quad-rotor UAV. Attitude controllers are designed by three different methods. One is the open-loop control system design, another is the PD control system design, and the last method is the sliding mode control system design. Performances of all controllers are tested by 6-DOF simulation. In case of the open-loop control system, control inputs are calculated by the quad-rotor dynamic model and thrust system model that are identified by the thrust test. The 6-DOF realtime simulation environment was constructed in order to verify the performances of attitude controllers.

  • Attitude control law synthesis for the three-axis attitude maneuver of a flexible spacecraft model is presented in this study. The basic idea is motivated by previous works for the extension into a more general case. The new case includes gravitational gradient torque which has significant effect on a wide range of low earth orbit missions. As the first step, the fully nonlinear dynamic equations of motion are derived including gravitational gradient. The control law design based upon the Lyapunov approach is attempted. The Lyapunov function consists of a weighted combination of system kinetic and potential energy. Then, a set of stabilizing control law is derived from the basic Lyapunov stability theory. The new control law is therefore in a general form partially validating the previous work in some sense.

  • In this study, the effects of metacognitive teaching strategy on the students' scientific inquiry ability and scientific attitude were investigated. For the study, two classes of fourth grade from an elementary school in Busan were chosen. Each class was assigned to the experimental group which metacognitive teaching strategy was applied to and the comparative group that traditional teaching method was applied to. The tests of scientific inquiry ability and scientific attitude were administered before and after the instruction period. The results of this study were as follows. There were significant differences between the experimental group and comparative group in scientific inquiry ability and scientific attitude. It was concluded that metacognitive teaching strategy was more effective in the improvement of students' scientific inquiry ability and scientific attitude.

  • This paper is mainly concerned with the vision-based attitude stabilization of a quad-rotor UAV. The methods for attitude control rely on computing the roll and pitch angles of the vehicle from a two-camera vision system. One camera is attached to the body-fixed x-axis and the other to the body-fixed y-axis. The attitude computation for the quad-rotor UAV is performed by image processing consisting of Canny edge and Hough line detection. A proportional and integral controller is employed for the attitude hold autopilot. In this paper, the quad-rotor UAV is modeled by 6-DOF nonlinear equations of motion that includes rotor aerodynamics with blade element theory. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated through 3D environmental numerical simulations.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to describe pediatric nurses' knowledge and attitude towards management of children's postoperative pain. Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, the participants were 220 pediatric nurses who worked at a general hospital in Seoul. The survey questionnaires used to assess the nurses' knowledge and attitude regarding children's postoperative pain were developed for this study. Results: The average score for knowledge was 67.7 out of 100. The mean score for attitude was 72.5 out of 100. The factor related to the knowledge level was education for pain management. Moreover, age, working department, position, working experience, education level, and number of children were associated with the attitude. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggested the need for a systematic education program for pain management of children in the postoperative condition.

  • The purpose of this survey was to study nutrition knowledge, dietary attitude, residences and purpose value of meal in the college freshmen. The survey was conducted from May 1 to May 25 in 1997. The results are summarized as follows. The female students showed higher scores than male students in nutrition knowledge score, but there was no difference in dietary attitude. Dietary attitude of the students living in home were higher than that of the other students. Female students tended to choose food for the pleasure of its taste. On female students, no difference was founded on nutrition knowledge and dietary attitude with purpose value of meal. The male students who have purpose value of meal on intake of nutrients showed the highest score in nutrition knowledge.
