In contrast, there was a significant difference in awareness of 'respect for relationship with others', a subcomponent of attitude toward multiculture, depending on grade and family income. Second, the one whose father is well-educated was more likely to show a positive and open minded attitude towards multiculture. Education level of the mother had no influence on perception of multicultural family life culture. The purpose of this study was to examine the general characteristics and the variety of family life experiences related to the life satisfaction of multicultural families with school-aged children. Data were drawn from the first wave of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey conducted in 2010 and developed by the National Youth Policy Institute. Further, the sample for this study consisted of 95 multicultural families who met the requirements. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, the t -test, analysis of variance, and multiple regression using SPSS ver. 18.0. The main results showed that family life experiences that were made up of 5 domains, specifically time, leisure, household economy, health, and child education had a broad range of levels. In addition, family life experiences differed according to the general characteristics of multicultural families with school-aged children, such as mother's employment status, number of children, father's employment status and education level, and family composition. Lastly, their life satisfaction was significantly predicted by the father's employment status and health, children's age, children's education, and leisure in the order of significance. These findings suggested the need to expand the social intervention range for multicultural families with school-aged children, particularly in terms of family leisure and children's school life adaptation.

The purpose of this study is to seek out efficient multicultural education plans by investigating Home Economics teachers' perception of multicultural families and multicultural education. Thus, a survey was carried out to collect data mainly from home economics teachers who is working for middle schools. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. Firstly, there were more teachers who had some experience of contacting with multicultural families than those who didn't have, but it was not a big difference. Also, it was found that there were not many teachers who took multicultural education-related classes for their studying at college or had multicultural education-related teachers' training for their working as a teacher. Secondly, it was found that their respect for multi-races, recognition of multi-cultures, belief in multi-cultures and acceptance attitude toward multicultural knowledge were very positive. Thirdly, it was found that most teachers had consideration -centered viewpoints most of all. On the other hand, assimilation-based viewpoints were the least among teachers. Fourthly, teachers believe that multicultural society centered contents, which is a society where people get along with each other, should be dealt in class while executing education for multicultural families. Lastly, in regard to methods of executing education for multicultural families, it was found that they showed the strongest opinion that it should be executed all over the domain of every school subject as integrated education.
The purpose of this study was to investigate dietary behaviors and nutritional knowledge among immigrant women in multicultural families. In addition, this study reveals a necessity for nutrition education, which is apparent to both immigrant women living in multicultural families as well as nutrition education experts. The survey was conducted with 30 immigrant women within multicultural families in Seoul. The dietary behaviors of the women were significantly different by their period of residence. The longer they had resided in Korea, the higher their dietary behavior score. However, there was no significant difference in nutrition knowledge by their period of residence. This study also conducted in-depth personal interviews with 8 immigrant women who lived in Seoul, and with 4 nutrition education experts. These interviews were performed to provide profound insights regarding the content and means of nutrition education for immigrant women. Nutrition education for immigrant women living in multicultural families should proceed at a basic level in terms of language and content, using bilingual (Korean and their native language) education materials. Education topics and content need to be developed differently according to the level of Korean comprehension and period of residence in Korea. Also, this multicultural approach should be adapted when planning nutrition education since immigrant women have various acculturation levels, and the content and means of education should be adjusted to these acculturation levels. Management after nutrition education is necessary for immigrant women who do not have sufficient understanding of the Korean language. Practical educational methods such as real cooking practices and food purchasing simulations must be developed. Finally, the results suggest that the government needs to establish a systematic plan for nutrition education among immigrant women living in multicultural families. Policy support such as training nutrition educators on multicultural individuals residing in Korea is necessary for active and effective nutritional education.

This study selected the objects and the content factors of multicultural education in home economics, and analyzed multicultural contents reflected on high school technology & home economics textbooks. Based on these results, this study suggests the direction for improving technology & home economics textbook. We set up the object of multicultural education in home economics as creating the new culture through developing multicultural ability by critical thinking. The distribution analysis of multicultural contents of six kinds of technology & home economics textbook resulted that most of contents are assigned to 'knowledge section'. And 'personal relationship and group function' holds the highest ratio among the sub-sections of 'function section'. The 'value section' shows even distribution in its sub-sections. Most of textbooks contain characteristics of Korean traditional culture and necessary value in multicultural society. But, there are lack of contents about the way of communication with other cultures and coexist with diverse cultures. When we develops new textbook hereafter, it is necessary to contain the contents about which can help to understand and respect diverse culture through the egalitarian perspective and, by extension, which can make students think critically about the attitude, values, environment and way of live together with multicultural members in society. From now on Home Economics education will help the students who live in multicultural society to be understand about the differences in diverse culture and to create a desirable culture through the critical thinking as well.
The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare the multicultural perceptions (multicultural acceptability, multicultural sensitivity and judging multicultural children) of elementary school students. The subjects comprised 1,252 students (583 third graders and 669 sixth graders), promoted from 20 elementary school in J province. The findings are as follows. First, the independent t-test showed that the lower graders had higher scores in cultural openness and national identity of multicultural acceptability, as well as the cognitive element of multicultural sensitivity than upper graders. In addition, the upper graders had higher scores in unilateral expectations for assimilation of multicultural acceptability, as well as the cognitive element of judging multicultural children. Second, all subscales were found to be interrelated, except for unilateral expectations for assimilation and two subscales (cognitive and righteous) in judging multicultural children. These results imply that in order to help have more positive perceptions of multiculturalism, it is necessary to develop more diverse multicultural education programs for elementary school students which take into consideration their grade levels.
