Objective: To investigate the prevalence of malocclusion with respect to grade, sex, and year among Korean pre-adolescent and adolescent students during 2012-2017. Methods: A total of 165,996 students (first grade [E1, 6-7 years of age], fourth grade [E4, 9-10 years], seventh grade [M1, 12-13 years], and tenth grade [H1, 15-16 years]) were selected by stratified sampling method and underwent the nationwide oral health examination performed by the Ministry of Education, Republic of Korea. The malocclusion assessments based on dentists' judgments were "no malocclusion," "needs orthodontic treatment (N-OTx)," and "under orthodontic treatment (U-OTx)." The sum of N-OTx and U-OTx cases was determined as the number of students with malocclusion. After analyzing the prevalence of malocclusion according to grade, sex, and year-by-year differences, Pearson correlation analyses and two-way analyses of variance were performed. Results: The prevalence of malocclusion was 18.7%, which increased with the grades (E1 [8.3%] < E4 [15.8%] < M1 [22.9%] < H1 [25.3%], p < 0.001). However, there was no significant difference in the prevalence of malocclusion in each grade group for the period (p > 0.05) without significant correlation (E1, ρ = 0.129; E4, ρ = -0.495; M1, ρ = 0.406; H1, ρ = -0.383; all p > 0.05). The prevalence of malocclusion within each grade group over the six-year period was more prominent in the female (p < 0.0001). Conclusions: Further studies are necessary to modify the malocclusion assessment method to account for specific types of malocclusion in pre-adolescent and adolescent students.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the dietary habits, nutritional status, and serum copper and zinc concentrations of adolescent athletes. 50 high school adolescent athletes (29 male, 21 female) took part in physical education high school and 47 high school adolescent non-athletes (21 male, 26 female) in general high school. Questionnaires, anthropometric measurements, 24-hour dietary recalls and blood analysis were conducted. In the males, the mean height, weight and body fat percents of athletes and non-athletes were 174.0/172.9 cm, 67.4/68.3 kg, and 8.9/20.0% (p<0.001) respectively. In the females, the mean height, weight and body fat percents of athletes and non-athletes were 163.7/159.3 cm (p<0.01), 58.7/55.7 kg (p<0.05), and 18.6/30.1 % (p<0.001) respectively. In both male and female athletes, intakes of animal fat were significantly higher and intakes of vitamin C were significantly lower than those of non-athletes. There was no significantly difference in zinc and copper intakes between athlete and non-athlete groups. The average serum zinc level of male athletes was significantly lower than that of male non-athlete. The average serum copper levels of male and female athletes were significantly lower than those of male and female non-athletes. Based on these results, exercise may effect on zinc and copper utilization of adolescent. Further studies on zinc and copper nutrition of adolescent athletes were needed to understand more mineral nutrition and exercise.
This study investigated the effect of parents' marital conflict and parent-adolescent communication on the psycho-social adjustment of college students. The subjects were 287 college students(107 boys and 180 girls) in Daegu and Kyoungbuk Province. Questionnaires were used to investigate the college students' depression, anxiety and school adjustment and parents' marital conflict and parent-adolescent communication perceived by college students. Data were analyzed by SPSS-WIN program, including median, mean, standard deviation, correlational analysis, and regression. Results were as follows. (1) The college students who perceived their parents' marital conflict as lower and parent-adolescent communication as positive were less depressive and less anxious and were good at school than those who perceived them as higher and negative. (2) The college students of the family with negative parent-adolescent communication and high parents' marital conflict were more negative in psycho-social adjustment than those of the family with positive parent-adolescent communication or low parents' marital conflict. (3) The regression analysis showed that college students' perception of positive parent-adolescent communication was more influential on college students' psycho-social adjustment than the parents' marital conflict perceived by college students.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the attachment of middle school students to their parents, their self-control, problem behavior, and the mediating effect of self-control on the relationship between parent-adolescent attachment and problem behavior. Method: Data were collected by questionnaires from 467 students in middle schools from May 19 to 30, 2008. Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression procedures. Result: 1. The students investigated received a mean score of 2.76 and 3.01 on attachment for fathers and mothers respectively. They received a mean score of 3.32 on self-control. The most prevalent self-perceived problem behavior among the students was going home late at night without permission followed by bullying friends for no reason and drinking. 2. Among parent-adolescent attachment, self-control and problem behavior, parent-adolescent attachment had a positive correlation to self-control and a negative correlation to problem behavior. 3. Self-control had a mediating effect on the relationship between parent-adolescent attachment and problem behavior. Conclusion: Parent-adolescent attachment influenced problem behavior through the mediating effect of self-control, and is expected to lay the foundation for the prevention of adolescent problem behavior.
This study examined the relations between maternal parenting, mother-adolescent conflict, and adolescent individuation with a sample of 271 high school students (156 boys and 115 girls) living in Seoul. Data were analyzed by correlations and regressions. Maternal monitoring, reasoning and affection were positively related to connectedness and separateness, two subscales of adolescent individuation, and maternal over-expectation, intrusiveness, physical abuse and neglect were negatively related to connectedness and separateness. Mother-adolescent conflict was negatively related to connectedness and separateness. Maternal monitoring, reasoning and affection were negatively related to mother-adolescent conflict, and maternal over-expectation, intrusiveness, and physical abuse and neglect were positively related to mother-adolescent conflict. Mother-adolescent conflict played a mediating role between maternal parenting and adolescent individuation.
The present study investigated the effects of individual, family, school, and community factors on the onset of adolescent runaway behavior. Using the Korean Youth Panel data(n=3,118), discrete-time survival analysis was applied for research purposes. Results showed that the likelihood of onset of adolescent runaway behavior increased sharply during the early middle school years. The variables of self-control, aggression, parents' divorce, paternal abuse, attachment with parents, and number of delinquent peers were associated with the likelihood of runaway behavior. These results suggest that special attention should be paid to adolescents in the early middle school years and that various preventive programs, e.g., aggression and stress management, and peer relations programs, should be developed and implemented.

Objectives: The objective and aim of this research is to cultivate a problem-solving ability by analysing the factors that negatively impact on filming sexual behaviour by adolescent. Methods: This research mainly refer to the secondary reference which is conducted a survey of all over the country by National Youth Policy Institute. 3,963 students on the register who participated in survey between 12th of June in 2014 and 15th of July in 2014 was nominated as final recipient for research. Results: Firstly, it has been shown that students who have watched sexual video have more experienced at filming sexual behaviour. In the area of stimulation(p<0.01) and emulation/sharing(p<0.001) except to violation of human rights, adolescent who has experienced at filming sexual behaviour significantly gains more high score than adolescent who does not have experienced statistically. Secondly, as a result of analysis the factors which negatively impact on filming sexual behaviour by adolescent with Binary logistic regression analysis, the adolescent who have shared sexual video was impacted on having an experience at filming sexual behaviour. and the adolescent who had sexual conversation was impacted on having an experience at filming sexual behaviour. Conclusion: A local autonomous entity and school should enforce systematic health education and practical management of mass media rather than unconditional restriction of adolescent's use of smart phone. To carry out this, the state and a local autonomous entity should urge plan for support for settling the instructive environment about using smart phone.
Objectives: The Chepang people, an indigenous ethnic group in Nepal, experience substantial marginalization and socioeconomic disadvantages, making their communities among the most vulnerable in the region. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and factors associated with adolescent pregnancy in the Chepang communities of Raksirang Rural Municipality, Makwanpur District, Bagmati Province, Nepal. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2022 to April 2023 among 231 Chepang women selected using simple random sampling from Raksirang Rural Municipality. A semi-structured questionnaire was used for interviewing the mothers. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed, using odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Variables with a variation inflation factor of more than 2 and a p-value of more than 0.25 were excluded from the final model. Results: The study revealed that the prevalence rate of adolescent pregnancy among Chepang women was 71.4% (95% CI, 65.14 to 77.16). A large percentage of participants (72.7%) were married before the age of 18 years. Poor knowledge of adolescent pregnancy (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 10.3; 95% CI, 8.42 to 14.87), unplanned pregnancy (aOR, 13.3; 95% CI, 10.76 to 19.2), and lack of sex education (aOR, 6.57; 95% CI, 3.85 to 11.27) were significantly associated with adolescent pregnancy. Conclusions: The prevalence of adolescent pregnancy among the Chepang community was high. These findings highlighted the importance of raising awareness about the potential consequences of adolescent pregnancy and implementing comprehensive sexuality education programs for preventing adolescent pregnancies within this community.
