As an era of nano science approaches, the understanding on the shape and optical properties of various materials in a nanoscale range is getting important more seriously than ever. Accordingly the development of high spatial-temporal-spectral resolution measurement tools for characterization of nanomaterials/structures is highly required. Generally, the various properties of sample can be measured independently, e.g. to observe the structural property of sample, we use the scanning electron microscopy or atomic force microscopy, and to observe optical property, we have to use another independent measurement tool such as photoluminescence spectroscopy or Raman spectroscopy. In the case of nano-materials, however, it is very difficult to find out the same position of sample at every different measurement processes, and the condition of sample can be changed by the influence of first measurement. The tip enhanced Raman scattering(TERS), which can simultaneously measure the two or more information of sample with nanoscale spatial resolution, is one of solutions of this problem. In this talk, I will present our recent nano Raman scattering data of graphene that measured by TERS and optimized tip fabrication method for efficient experiment.
In this paper, electromagnetic wave scattering from a bianisotropicaly coated cylinder is formulated by using wave functions for bianisotropic media and boundary-value method. The cross section of the cylinder is made of a conducting core, a lossless dielectric layer which is both electrically magnetically bianisotropic, and a bianisotropic impedance sheet and a different uniaxial bianisotrpic coating. The solutions to arbitrary polarization angles are presented in two-dimensional. This paper presents and exact solution to the problem of scattering by a long composite circular cylinder using the boundary method. The validity of this solution is verified by comparing numerical results with those in literature. The numerical results for various geometrical and electrical parameters on bistatic scattering cross-section are presented.
A numerical algorithm using the Method of Moments (MoM) is introduced to compute precisely the scattering matrices of very thin deciduous leaves in this paper. At first, a dyadic Green's function was formulated and an integral equation for a volumetric current distribution in a lossy dielectric body. Then, the MoM was applied to the scattering problem with a specific technique to handle the numerical poles. The accuracy of the numerical technique was verified by examining the technique with various ways, and used to examine the validity regions of the classical analytical models.
In this paper, a synthesis method for the desired scattering pattern is presented when illuminating by TE-polarized and TM-polarized plane waves to arbitrary dielectric material. It is considered that the one-dimensional dielectric media are inhomogeneously distributed with continuously varying dielectric constants. Accordingly the desired patterns and the corresponding source distributions are inversely transformed by the proposed algorithm which are based on the one-dimensional inverse scattering problem. Some bandstop spatial filter are illustrated for applications.
This study shows that the vertical migration speed of sound scattering layers (SSLs), which is distributed in near Funka Bay, were measured by 3D velocity components acquired from a bottom moorng ADCP. While the bottom mooring type has a problem to measure the velocity vectors of sound scattering layer distributed near to surface, both the continuous vertical migration patterns and variability of backscatterers were routinely investigated as well. In addition, the velocity vectors were compared with the vertical migration velocity estimated from echograms of Mean Volume Backscattering Strength, and estimated to produce observational bias due to SSLs which is composed of backscatterers such as euphausiids, nekton, and fishes have swimming ability.
In this paper, the static limit of Helmholtz equation is discussed for the analysis of wave scattering in a wave scattering in a waveguide. Boundary integral equation method is used to formulato the scattering process in the exterior of the scatterer and finite element method in the interior of the scatterer. And hybrid ray-mode method is used to provide the Green's function in the waveguide. The proposed algorithm is applied algarithm is applied to a sample problem with arbitrary scatterer in a waveguide. The results are compared with those of static analysis.
This paper presents an assessment of applicability of the multigroup cross sections generated with Monte Carlo tools to the fast reactor analysis based on transport calculations. 33-group cross section sets were generated for simple one- (1-D) and two-dimensional (2-D) sodium-cooled fast reactor problems using the SERPENT code and applied to deterministic steady-state and depletion calculations. Relative to the reference continuous-energy SERPENT results, with the transport corrected P0 scattering cross section, the k-eff value was overestimated by 506 and 588 pcm for 1-D and 2-D problems, respectively, since anisotropic scattering is important in fast reactors. When the scattering order was increased to P5, the 1-D and 2-D problem errors were increased to 577 and 643 pcm, respectively. A sensitivity and uncertainty analysis with the PERSENT code indicated that these large k-eff errors cannot be attributed to the statistical uncertainties of cross sections and they are likely due to the approximate anisotropic scattering matrices determined by scalar flux weighting. The anisotropic scattering cross sections were alternatively generated using the MC2-3 code and merged with the SERPENT cross sections. The mixed cross section set consistently reduced the errors in k-eff, assembly powers, and nuclide densities. For example, in the 2-D calculation with P3 scattering order, the k-eff error was reduced from 634 pcm to -223 pcm. The maximum error in assembly power was reduced from 2.8% to 0.8% and the RMS error was reduced from 1.4% to 0.4%. The maximum error in the nuclide densities at the end of 12-month depletion that occurred in 237Np was reduced from 3.4% to 1.5%. The errors of the other nuclides are also reduced consistently, for example, from 1.1% to 0.1% for 235U, from 2.2% to 0.7% for 238Pu, and from 1.6% to 0.2% for 241Pu. These results indicate that the scalar flux weighted anisotropic scattering cross sections of SERPENT may not be adequate for application to fast reactors where anisotropic scattering is important.
Numerical modeling of a nondestructive testing system plays an important role in many aspects of quantitative nondestructive evaluation (QNDE). The ultimate goal of a model is to predict test results for a specific flaw in a material. Thus, in ultrasonic testing, a system model should include the transducer, its radiation pattern, the beam reflection and propagation, and scattering from defects. In this paper attention is focused on the scattering model and the scattered fields by defects are observed by an elastodynamic boundary element method. Flaw types addressed are void-like and crack-like flaws. When transverse ultrasonic waves are obliquely incident on the flaw, the angular distribution of far-field scattered displacements are calculated and presented in the form of A-scan mode. The component signals obtained from each scattering problem are identified and their differences are addressed. The numerical results are also compared with those obtained by high frequency approximate solutions.
Ultrasonic technique which is one of the most common nondestructive evaluation techniques has been applied to evaluate the integrity of structures by analyzing the characteristic of scattering sign al from internal defects. Therefore, a numerical analysis of ultrasonic scattering field due to defect profiles is absolutely needed for the accurate, quantitative estimation of internal defects. In this paper, the SH-wave scattering by multi-cavity defects and inclusion using Elastodynamic Boundary Element Method is studied. The effects of shape and distance of defects on transmitted and reflected fields are considered. The interaction of multi-cavity defects in SH-wave scattering is also investigated. Numerical calculations by the BEM have been carried out to predict near field solution of scattered fields of ultrasonic SH-wave. The presented results can be used to improve the detection sensitivity and pursue quantitative nondestructive evaluation for inverse problem.
