Modeling and simulation of mechanical response of infrastructure object, solids and structures, relies on the use of computational models to foretell the state of a physical system under conditions for which such computational model has not been validated. Verification and Validation (V&V) procedures are the primary means of assessing accuracy, building confidence and credibility in modeling and computational simulations of behavior of those infrastructure objects. Validation is the process of determining a degree to which a model is an accurate representation of the real world from the perspective of the intended uses of the model. It is mainly a physics issue and provides evidence that the correct model is solved (Oberkampf et al. 2002). Our primary interest is in modeling and simulating behavior of porous particulate media that is fully saturated with pore fluid, including cyclic mobility and liquefaction. Fully saturated soils undergoing dynamic shaking fall in this category. Verification modeling and simulation of fully saturated porous soils is addressed in more detail by (Tasiopoulou et al. 2014), and in this paper we address validation. A set of centrifuge experiments is used for this purpose. Discussion is provided assessing the effects of scaling laws on centrifuge experiments and their influence on the validation. Available validation test are reviewed in view of first and second order phenomena and their importance to validation. For example, dynamics behavior of the system, following the dynamic time, and dissipation of the pore fluid pressures, following diffusion time, are not happening in the same time scale and those discrepancies are discussed. Laboratory tests, performed on soil that is used in centrifuge experiments, were used to calibrate material models that are then used in a validation process. Number of physical and numerical examples are used for validation and to illustrate presented discussion. In particular, it is shown that for the most part, numerical prediction of behavior, using laboratory test data to calibrate soil material model, prior to centrifuge experiments, can be validated using scaled tests. There are, of course, discrepancies, sources of which are analyzed and discussed.
The present study surveyed 300 adults who completed orthodontic treatment to determine their oral health-related quality of life and changes in oral health behavior in orthodontic patients. The collected data is analyzed using the spss 22.0 program. Before orthodontic treatment, social factors (4.68) had the lowest associated quality of life score, and after orthodontic treatment, socially related quality of life showed the highest increase at 3.72 points. Changes in oral health behavior showed that many phosphorus scaling increased by 1.28 points after correction compared to before correction. As oral health quality of life and oral health behavior have changed through orthodontic treatment, dental professionals need to take appropriate management of each patient's individual quality through health education. Appropriate management needs to be developed.
Purpose: This study studied and investigated the oral health behavior of students in the Department of Dental Technology at D College at D City. Methods: A self-administrated survey was conducted by students currently enrolled at the Department of Dental Laboratory Technology at D College (June 4, 2015 ~ June 12, 2015), and 320 copies that were available for statistical processing were statistically analyzed by using the SPSS 19.0 Program. Results: Among the survey respondents, 91.6% had experience of dental treatment. The highest response regarding the frequency of tooth brushing appeared to be 'twice' with 44.7%. The responses regarding the time of tooth brushing appeared to be highest for 'before sleeping' with 65.3%, which was followed by 'after breakfast' with 60.6%. To the question asking which areas are brushed during tooth brushing, the response of 'teeth, gum, and tongue' appeared to be highest with 44.4%. Among the respondents, 64.7% experienced scaling, however, the experience rate for scaling appeared to increase in proportion with the increase of class year (p< .001). Regarding the subjective feel for the importance of oral health and necessity of tooth brushing, the scores appeared to be both 4.56. However, the score appeared to be 3.27 regarding one's subjective perception of one's own oral health condition. Regarding one's subjective oral health knowledge level depending on gender, female students showed a meaningfully lower rate (3.12 points) compared to male students (3.29 points) (p< .05), and depending on class, the knowledge level appeared to be meaningfully higher along with the increase in class year (p< .001). The experience of receiving oral health education appeared to be 78.4%, and 88.8% of the respondents responded that there is need for oral health education, however, the intent to participate in an oral health education program appeared to be 56.6%. Conclusion: As a result of the study, it could be concluded that oral health management behaviors and awareness of the students at the Department of Dental Technology at D University to prevent oral diseases were rather poor.

It is recognized that the magnetization reverses with a sequence of discrete and jerky jumps, known as the Barkhausen effect. Recently, interest in the Barkhausen effect has grown as it is a good example of dynamical critical behavior, evidenced by experimental observation of a power law distribution of the Barkhausen jump size. So far, most experimental studies have been carried out on bulk samples using a classical inductive technique, which is difficult to apply to thin film samples mainly due to the ]ow signal intensity. For this reason, very few experiments have been done on two-dimensional ferromagnetic thin films. In this talk, we report a direct domain observation of Barkhausen avalanche at criticality in Co and MnAs thin films investigated by means of a magnetooptical microscope magnetometer (MOMM), capable of time-resolved domain observation with an image grabbing rate of 30 frames/s in real time. In Fig. 1, we demonstrate a series of six representative domain-evolution patterns of 25-nm Co film observed successively by means of the MOMM, where one can directly witness Barkhausen avalanche.
Step edge Josephson junctions in c-axis oriented $YBa_2Cu_3O_7$ films were fabricated on $CeO_2$ buffered sapphire substrates. The step angle was controlled in the wide range of $20^{\circ}\sim75^{\circ}$ by the Ar ion milling technique. I-V curves of junction fabricated on the thickness ratio of $\sim$0.8 and the step angle of $35^{\circ}$ were exhibited RSJ-like behavior with $I_CR_N$ product of $\sim250{\mu}A$ and critical current density of $\sim2\times10^4A/cm^2$ at 77 K. Critical current of step edge junction was increased linearly with decreasing temperature but the normal resistance was almost constant. Total samples of step edge Josephson junction was satisfied a scaling behavior of $I_CR_N{\propto}(J_C)^{0.5}$.
Objectives : This study aims to provide the basic data for the maintenance and management of healthy implants through finding out the educational experience of toothbrushing and the oral hygiene management for the implant patients and to determine the maintenance measure. Methods : From April 1 to october 1, 2012, 250 patients in the dental clinic in Daejeon completed the self-reported questionnaire. Results : As for the educational experience of toothbrushing, 66.4 percent received the training for toothbrushing and 33.6 percent had not received the training for toothbrushing. Those who brushed three times a day accounted for 74.1 percent. Those who received the training for toothbrushing comprised 56.0 percent and took regular check up of every 6 months. Approximately 50.0% received regular scaling service every 6 months. Periodical medical check up comprised 55.6% among those who received toothbrushing education. Approximately 63.9% thought that periodical medical check up is the most important to maintain oral health. Conclusions : There were important factors for oral health. They were tooth-brushing, the utilization of various oral hygienic products, and the awareness of importance of oral hygiene management. The customized education program for the general public should be implemented as regular as possible.

Rockfill zones in CFRD consist typically of large granular materials, usually the maximum particle size up to several meters, which makes laboratory testing to determine the mechanical properties of rockfill difficult. Commonly, the design strength of the rockfills is obtained by scaling down the original rockfill materials and performing laboratory strength tests for the reduced size materials. The objective of the present study is to investigate the effect of particle size on the shear behavior and the strength for granular materials. A series of large-scale triaxial tests was conducted on large granular materials with the maximum particle size varying from 20 to 50mm. The test results showed that overall shear behaviors were similar between the samples with different particle sizes while there were slight differences in the magnitudes of the peak shear stress between the samples. In addition, a simulation of the granular material with the max. particle size of 20mm was performed using DEM code, $PFC^{2D}$, and compared with the test results. The deviatoric stress versus strain behaviors of experimental and numerical tests were found to be matched well up to the peak stress state.
Thermoelectric power, dc conductivity, and the dielectric relaxation properties of $La_2NiO_{4.03}$ are reported in the temperature range of 77 K - 300 K and in a frequency range of 20 Hz - 1 MHz. Thermoelectric power was positive below 300K. The measured thermoelectric power of $La_2NiO_{4.03}$ decreased linearly with temperature. The dc conductivity showed a temperature variation consistent with the variable range hopping mechanism at low temperatures and the adiabatic polaron hopping mechanism at high temperatures. The low temperature dc conductivity mechanism in $La_2NiO_{4.03}$ was analyzed using Mott's approach. The temperature dependence of thermoelectric power and dc conductivity suggests that the charge carriers responsible for conduction are strongly localized. The relaxation mechanism has been discussed in the frame of the electric modulus and loss spectra. The scaling behavior of the modulus and loss tangent suggests that the relaxation describes the same mechanism at various temperatures. The logarithmic angular frequency dependence of the loss peak is found to obey the Arrhenius law with activation energy of ~ 0.106eV. At low temperature, variable range hopping and large dielectric relaxation behavior for $La_2NiO_{4.03}$ are consistent with the polaronic nature of the charge carriers.
This article provides a discussion of the mathematic modeling of connections for designing and qualifying structures, systems, and components subject to monotonic or cyclic loading. To characterize the force-deformation behavior of connections under monotonic loading, a review of the Ramberg-Osgood, Richard-Abbott, and Menegotto-Pinto models is conducted, and it is shown that these nonlinear functions can be mathematically derived by scaling up or down a linear force-deformation function. A generalized four-parameter model for simulating connection behavior is investigated to facilitate nonlinear regression analysis. In order to perform seismic analysis of frameworks, a hysteretic model accounting for loading, unloading, and reloading is described using the established monotonic model. For preliminary analysis, a method is provided to quickly determine the model parameters that fit approximately with the observed data. To reach more accurate values of the parameters, the methods of nonlinear regression analysis are investigated and the modified Levenberg-Marquardt and separable nonlinear least-square algorithms are applied in determining the model parameters. Example case studies illustrate the procedure for the computation through the use of experimental/analytical data taken form the literature. Transformation of connection curves from the three-parameter model to the four-parameter model for structural analysis is conducted based on the modeling of connections subject to fire.
Objectives: The objective of the study was to investigate the factors related to non-use of interdental care products (ICP) in adolescents. Methods: The 2019 Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey was used, examining 57,303 subjects. Complex-sample chi-square test and logistic regression analyses were performed to identify differences in ICP according to sociodemographic characteristics and oral health behavior and to determine the factors related to non-use. Results: The ICP non-use rate was 70.9%. Factors related to the non-use of ICP were middle or low economic status (OR=1.367 and 1.677). The other significant variables were less than one tooth brushing per day (OR=1.542), no scaling within 12 months (OR=1.631), and receiving dental treatment either once or two times or more (OR=1.757 and 2.195). Conclusions: To increase the ICP usage rate, continuous attention is needed from schools and families in addition to interventions at the national level.
