  • The model to predict flow duration characteristics and performance for small scale hydro power(SSHP) plants is studied to analyze the effects of rainfall condition. One existing SSHP plant was selected and performance characteristics was analyzed by using the developed model. The predicted results from the model developed show that the data were in good agreement with operational results of existing SSHP plant. The results show that both the scale parameter and the shape parameter have large effects on the performance of SSHP sites. And also it was found that the model developed in this study can be a useful tool to predict the performance of SSHP sites.

  • The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of surface texturing on reduction friction and to understand the potential of friction reduction through micro-scale dimple to fabricate by photolithography on pin-on-disk test using flat-on-flat contact geometry. It was verify that the friction property with respect to the same pitch has been influence on the size of dimple under lubricated sliding contact. Also, we can recognize from Stribeck curve that the friction property has a connection with the size of dimple. It can explain a relationship between the friction coefficient and a dimensionless parameter for lubrication condition. The friction property has been an effect on the size of surface texture on reduction friction, not only because the density of dimple, but also because the ratio of diameter/pitch. This ratio of approximately 0.5 recommend under the tested friction condition. It suggested that the ratio of d/p is an important parameter for surface texture design.

  • In this paper we first present the elements of the theory of families of distributions and corresponding estimators having structual properties which are preserved under certain groups of transformations, called "Invariance Principle". The invariance principle is an intuitively appealing decision principle which is frequently used, even in classical statistics. It is interesting not only in its own right, but also because of its strong relationship with several other proposal approaches to statistics, including the fiducial inference of Fisher [3, 4], the structural inference of Fraser [5], and the use of noninformative priors of Jeffreys [6]. Unfortunately, a space precludes the discussion of fiducial inference and structural inference. Many of the key ideas in these approaches will, however, be brought out in the discussion of invarience and its relationship to the use of noninformatives priors. This principle is also applied to the problem of finding the best scale invariant estimator in the scale parameter problem. Finally, several examples are subsequently given.

  • A new nonlocal higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) is developed for buckling properties of single graphene sheet. The proposed nonlocal HSDT contains a new displacement field which incorporates undetermined integral terms and contains only two variables. The length scale parameter is considered in the present formulation by employing the nonlocal differential constitutive relations of Eringen. Closed-form solutions for critical buckling forces of the graphene sheets are obtained. Nonlocal elasticity theories are used to bring out the small scale influence on the critical buckling force of graphene sheets. Influences of length scale parameter, length, thickness of the graphene sheets and shear deformation on the critical buckling force have been examined.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of the parameters of the suspension system in railway rolling-stock for KT-23 type passenger vehicle. According to the results of simulation and the small scale vehicle test. Optimal condition was obtained for the stiffness ratio of the primary spring and secondary spring of the suspension system. When the stiffness ratio was Increased, the vortical vibration was increased on the car body for empty and weight car. The result of this study are stable to use of the optimum parameter of the ride duality of KT-23 type vehicle. Also, it is usefull to development of full scale vehicle dynamomer

  • The nonlinear dynamic behavior of a nonuniform small-scale nonlocal beam is investigated in this work. The nanobeam is theoretically modeled using the nonlocal Eringen theory, as well as a few of Von-nonlinear Kármán's theories and the classical beam theory. The Hamilton principle extracts partial differential equations (PDE) of an axially functionally graded (AFG) nano-scale beam consisting of SUS304 and Si3N4 throughout its length, and an elastic Winkler-Pasternak substrate supports the tapered AFG nanobeam. The beam thickness is a function of beam length, and it constantly varies throughout the length of the beam. The numerical solution strategy employs an iteration methodology connected with the generalized differential quadratic method (GDQM) to calculate the nonlinear outcomes. The nonlinear numerical results are presented in detail to examine the impact of various parameters such as nonlinear amplitude, nonlocal parameter, the component of the elastic foundation, rate of cross-section change, and volume fraction parameter on the linear and nonlinear free vibration characteristics of AFG nanobeam.

  • The goal of this paper is to investigate dynamic responses of simply-supported laminated micro beams under moving load. In the considered micro-scale problem, the modified coupled stress theory which includes the length scale parameter is used. The governing equations of problem are derived by using the Lagrange procedure. In the solution of the problem the Ritz method is used and algebraic polynomials are used with the trivial functions for the Ritz method. In the solution of the moving load problem, the Newmark average acceleration method is used in the time history. In the numerical examples, the effects of stacking sequence of laminas, fibre orientation angles and the length scale parameter on the dynamic responses of laminated micro beams are examined and discussed.

  • Due to the growing concerns of energy resource depletion and environmental destruction, the mass production of microalgae has been studied. The scale-up of a photobioreactor (PBR) is required for the mass production of biomass. In this paper, the geometric parameters and oxygen transfer rate (OTR) are considered, to scale up a flat panel photobioreactor (FP PBR). The PBR is designed using the goal-driven optimization (GDO) method to accomplish the scale-up. The local sensitivity of each output parameter with respect to the input parameter is analyzed through the design of experiment (DOE), and the design candidates are evaluated with the screening sampling method. The volumetric mass transfer coefficient is measured by the dynamic method.

  • Objectives: Adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is an important mental health problem that needs resolution, especially considering the high rates of ADHD continuation from childhood to adolescence/adulthood and the high prevalence of ADHD in adults. Adults with ADHD have lifelong negative impacts and require close monitoring with long-term follow-up. Hence, the establishment of a Korean practice parameter for adult ADHD is necessary to minimize discontinuation of treatment and enable information sharing among Korean mental health professionals. Methods: The Korean practice parameter was developed using an evidence-based approach consisting of expert consensus survey coupled with literature review. Results: According to the expert consensus survey, the most commonly used diagnostic methods were clinical psychiatric interview (20.66%) and self-report scales (19.25%) followed by attention (14.71%) and psychological tests (14.24%). Key evaluation instruments currently available in Korea are the World Health Organization Adult ADHD Self-Report Rating Scale, Korean Adult ADHD Rating Scale, Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults, Barkley Deficits in Executive Functioning Scale for adults, Comprehensive Attention Test, Conners' Continuous Performance Test, and the subtests of Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, Digit Span and Letter-Number Sequencing. Although pharmacotherapy is recommended as the first-line of treatment for adult ADHD, we recommend that it be followed by a multimodal and multidisciplinary approach including psychoeducation, pharmacotherapy, cognitive behavior therapy and coaching. Conclusion: The Korean practice parameter introduces not only general information for the diagnosis and treatment of adult ADHD on a global scale, but also the process of diagnosis and treatment options tailored to the Korean population.

  • In this paper, we develop the reference priors for the common location parameter in the half-normal distributions with unequal scale paramters. We derive the reference priors as noninformative prior and prove the propriety of joint posterior distribution under the general prior including the reference priors. Through the simulation study, we show that the proposed reference priors match the target coverage probabilities in a frequentist sense.
