Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) is a Lagrangian computational fluid dynamics method that has been widely used in the analysis of physical phenomena characterized by large deformation or multi-phase flow analysis, including free surface. Despite the recent implementation of eddy-viscosity models in SPH methodology, sophisticated turbulent analysis using Lagrangian methodology has been limited due to the lack of computational performance and numerical consistency. In this study, we implement the standard and dynamic Smagorinsky model and dynamic Vreman model as sub-particle scale models based on a weakly compressible SPH solver. The large eddy simulation method is numerically identical to the spatial discretization method of smoothed particle dynamics, enabling the intuitive implementation of the turbulence model. Furthermore, there is no additional filtering process required for physical variables since the sub-grid scale filtering is inherently processed in the kernel interpolation. We simulate lid-driven flow under transition and turbulent conditions as a benchmark. The simulation results show that the dynamic Vreman model produces consistent results with experimental and numerical research regarding Reynolds averaged physical quantities and flow structure. Spectral analysis also confirms that it is possible to analyze turbulent eddies with a smaller length scale using the dynamic Vreman model with the same particle size.

In this study, probabilistic models for the wave- and lifting forces were derived directly from long-term in-situ wave data embedding the Korean marine environment characteristics varying from sea to sea based on the Three-Parameter Weibull distribution. Korean marine environment characteristics varying from sea to sea carved out their presence on the probability coefficients of probabilistic models for wave- and lifting forces. Energetic wave conditions along the southern coast of Korea distinguish themselves from the others with a relatively large scale coefficient, small location coefficient, and shape coefficient around 1.3. On the other hand, mild marine environment along the western coast has a small variability, leading to small scale-coefficient, large location coefficient and shape coefficient around 2.0. In the sea off Mokpo, near the boundary between the South- and West Seas, marine environment was characterized by small scale-coefficient, large location coefficient, and shape coefficient around 1.2, implying that marine environments characteristics of the South-and West Sea coexist in the sea off Mokpo.

Since the columns with flexure-shear failure have lower ductility than those with flexural failure, shear capacity curve models shall be applied as well as flexural capacity curve in order to determine ultimate displacement for seismic design or performance evaluation. In this paper, a proposed modified shear capacity curve model is compared with the other models such as the CALTRANS model, Aschheim et al.'s model, and Priestley et al.'s model. Four shear capacity curve models are applied to the 4 full scale and 7 small scale circular bridge column test results and the accuracy of each model is discussed. It may not be fully adequate to drive a final decision from the application to the limited number of test results, however the proposed model provides the better prediction of failure mode and ultimate displacement than the other models for the selected column test results.

This study develops finite element models for seismically-deficient reinforced concrete building frame retrofitted using fiber-reinforced polymer jacketing system and validates the finite element models with full-scale dynamic test for as-built and retrofitted conditions. The bond-slip effects measured from a past experimental study were modeled using one-dimensional slide line model, and the bond-slip models were implemented to the finite element models. The finite element model can predict story displacement and inter-story drift ratio with slight simulation variation compared to the measured responses from the full-scale dynamic tests.
Large-eddy simulations of the flow around a circular cylinder at a Reynolds number, based on cylinder diameter and free-stream velocity, $Re_D=2{\times}10^4$ are presented. Three different dynamic subgrid-scale models are used, viz. the dynamic eddy-viscosity model and two different mixed two-parameter models. The sensitivity to grid refinement in the spanwise and radial directions is systematically investigated. For the highest resolution considered, the effects of subgrid-scale modeling are also discussed in detail. In particular, it is shown that SGS modeling has a significant influence on the low-frequency modulations of the aerodynamics loads, which are related to significant changes in the near wake structure.
The damage level in structures (global scale), elements (intermediate scale) and sections (local scale) can be evaluated using a single parameter called the "Damage Index". Part of the damage attributed to the local scale relates to the damage sustained by the materials of which the section is made. This study investigates the damage of concrete subjected to monotonic compressive loading using four different damage models - one proposed here for the first time and three other well-known models. The analytical results show that the proposed model is promising yet simple and effective for evaluating the damage of concrete. The proposed damage model of concrete with its promising characteristics indicated, appears to be a useful tool in the damage assessment of structures made of concrete.

Four types of experiments were performed to check the similitude of member behavior between prototype and 1/10 scale models:(1) Test of slender columns with P- effect, (2)Test of short columns with and without confinement steel, (3)Test of simple beams without stirrups, and (4)T-beam test. Based on the results of experiments, the conclusions were made as follows : (1) The P- effect of slender columns can be almost exactly represented by 1/10 acale model. (2)The effect of confinement on short columns by the hoop steel can also roughly simulated by 1/10 scale model. (3)The failure modes of simple beams models were the yielding of tension steel followed by large diagonal tension cracking+compressive concrete failure. (4)The behaviors of prototype and 1/10 scale model in T-beams appear very similar.
The small-scale models have been utilized for the prediction of inelastic behavior of reinforced concrete structures for several decades. The parameters that affect the similitude between the model and prototype are various. Among them, the effect of bond between the model reinforcement and the model concrete is one of the most important factors. The study reported herein is addressed to verifying this similitude in bond behavior. The simple beams which have the lap splice at the midspan were made and flexural tests were performed under two-point loading. The length of lap splice are varied from 0.4ld through 0.7ld and up to 1.0ld where ld is the development length of the reinforcement. The selected scales are 1/1, 1/5, 1/10 and 1/12. Two prototype specimens and three models were tested in addition to the associated material tests and the test results are compared from the viewpoint of similitude.
This paper addresses the issue of workflow on Grid and P2P, and proposes a layered workflow architecture and its related workflow models that are used for not only distributing workflows' information onto Grid or P2P resources but also scheduling the enactment of workflows. Especially, the most critical rationale of this paper is on the fact that the nature of Grid computing environment is fitted very well into building a platform for the maximally parallel and very large scale workflows that are frequently found in very large scale enterprises. The layered architecture proposed in this paper, which we call Enterprise Workflow Grid Architecture, is targeting on maximizing the usability of computing facilities in the enterprise as well as the scalability of its underlined workflow management system in coping with massively parallel and very large scale workflow applications.

In this paper the buckling analysis of the nanoplate made of arbitrary bi-directional functionally graded (BDFG) materials with small scale effects are investigated. To study the small-scale effects on buckling load, the Eringen's nonlocal theory is applied. Employing the principle of minimum potential energy, the governing equations are obtained. Generalize differential quadrature method (GDQM) is used to solve the governing equations for various boundary conditions to obtain the buckling load of BDFG nanoplates. These models can degenerate into the classical models if the material length scale parameter is taken to be zero. Comparison between the results of GDQ method and other papers for buckling analysis of a simply supported rectangular nano FGM plate reveals the accuracy of GDQ method. At the end some numerical results are presented to study the effects of material length scale parameter, plate thickness, aspect ratio, Poisson's ratio boundary condition and side to thickness ratio on size dependent Frequency.
