Small-scale effects of sand mining on macrobenthic communities have been reported previously. However, little information is available as to how dredging affects the macrobenthic community structure. The objective of this study was to determine the impacts of large-scale exhibition dredging on the macrobenthic community of Gyeonggi Bay, Korea, where sand mining has continued for 20 years. Prior to dredging, the macrobenthic species composition was similar to that of areas near the dredging site, with several common dominant species found before dredging. After dredging, the number of species, density, and diversity (H') in the experimental area (sites 0 and 1) decreased significantly, but no difference was observed at other sites. Multivariate analysis (multidimensional scaling) revealed significant differences in community structure before and after dredging. The amphipod Urothoe grimaldii japonica, which was the most dominant species at sites 0,1, and 2, decreased rapidly at sites 0 and 1 after dredging, but no difference was observed at site 2. In addition, the index of multivariate dispersion (IMD) and the relative IMD (r. IMD) were large at sites 0 and 1, suggesting that the effects of dredging were direct at site 0 and 1, but indirect at site 2. The macrobenthic communities at sites 3 and 4 were not affected by dredging, but they were affected by physical conditions and biological interactions. We suggest that benthic biotope indices such as the IMD and r.IMD may constitute a valid tool for assessing the effects of dredging on the macrobenthic community; long-term monitoring is required to verify this.
Continual monitoring of abnormal operating conditions i a key issue in maintaining high product quality and safe operation, since the undetected process abnormality may lead to the undesirable operations, finally producing low quality products, or breakdown of equipment. The statistical projection method recently highlighted has the advantage of easily building reference model with the historical measurement data in the statistically in-control state and not requiring any detailed mathematical model or knowledge-base of process. As the complexity of process increases, however, we have more measurement variables and recycle streams. This situation may not only result in the frequent occurrence of process Perturbation, but make it difficult to pinpoint trouble-making causes or at most assignable source unit due to the confusing candidates. Consequently, an ad hoc skill to monitor and diagnose in plat-wide scale is needed. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical plant-wide monitoring methodology based on hierarchical decomposition and principal component analysis for handling the complexity and interactions among process units. This have the effect of preventing special events in a specific sub-block from propagating to other sub-blocks or at least delaying the transfer of undesired state, and so make it possible to quickly detect and diagnose the process malfunctions. To prove the performance of the proposed methodology, we simulate the Tennessee Eastman benchmark process which is operated continuously with 41 measurement variables of five major units. Simulation results have shown that the proposed methodology offers a fast and reliable monitoring and diagnosis for a large scale chemical plant.

Large scale protein interaction maps provide a new, global perspective with which to analyse protein function. PSIMAP, the Protein Structural Interactome Map, is a database of all the structurally observed interactions between superfamilies of protein domains with known three-dimensional structure in thePDB. PSIMAP incorporates both functional and evolutionary information into a single network. It makes it possible to age protein domains in terms of taxonomic diversity, interaction and function. One consequence of it is to predict the most important protein domain structure in evolution. We present a global analysis of PSIMAP using several distinct network measures relating to centrality, interactivity, fault-tolerance, and taxonomic diversity. We found the following results: ${\bullet}$ Centrality: we show that the center and barycenter of PSIMAP do not coincide, and that the superfamilies forming the barycenter relate to very general functions, while those constituting the center relate to enzymatic activity. ${\bullet}$ Interactivity: we identify the P-loop and immunoglobulin superfamilies as the most highly interactive. We successfully use connectivity and cluster index, which characterise the connectivity of a superfamily's neighbourhood, to discover superfamilies of complex I and II. This is particularly significant as the structure of complex I is not yet solved. ${\bullet}$ Taxonomic diversity: we found that highly interactive superfamilies are in general taxonomically very diverse and are thus amongst the oldest. This led to the prediction of the oldest and most important protein domain in evolution of lift. ${\bullet}$ Fault-tolerance: we found that the network is very robust as for the majority of superfamilies removal from the network will not break up the network. Overall, we can single out the P-loop containing nucleotide triphosphate hydrolases superfamily as it is the most highly connected and has the highest taxonomic diversity. In addition, this superfamily has the highest interaction rank, is the barycenter of the network (it has the shortest average path to every other superfamily in the network), and is an articulation vertex, whose removal will disconnect the network. More generally, we conclude that the graph-theoretic and taxonomic analysis of PSIMAP is an important step towards the understanding of protein function and could be an important tool for tracing the evolution of life at the molecular level.
Saccharomyces cerevisiae Dna2 helicase/endonuclease plays an essential role in removing DNA primers during Okazaki fragment processing in eukaryotic DNA replication. Genome-wide scale co-immunoprecipitation experiments predicted that Dna2 interacts with a novel protein YHR122W (1). In this study, we observed that overexpression of YHR122W gene suppressed the temperature-sensitive phenotype of $dna2\Delta405N$ mutation. To investigate direct interaction between these two proteins, a histidine-tagged recombinant YHR122W protein was expressed and purified from E. coli. Physical interaction between the purified YHR122W and Dna2 proteins was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Further more, the complex formation was most efficient at physiological salt concentration, 150 mM NaCl. The genetic and physical interactions between YHR122W and Dna2 shown in this study suggest that the biological functions of these two proteins may be closely related each other.

This study aims to develop the scales to measure the innovation configurations of Science. Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) from the perspective of elementary school teachers and investigates the effect of the innovation configurations and related environmental factors on the usage levels of STEAM based on the newly developed scales for the innovation configurations of STEAM. The scales for the innovation configurations of STEAM are based on analyzing the various previous studies and in-depth interviews and consist of four sub-configurations: The 'Preparation,' 'Design,' 'Implementation,' and 'Evaluation.' The innovation configurations of STEAM was investigated with the developed scales through 266 teachers who are leading STEAM school teachers, are involved in STEAM research group, or are implementing STEAM in general schools. The final 19 questionnaires for the scale of the innovation configuration of STEAM are confirmed with exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis. In order to examine the relationship between the innovation configurations and levels of use, the direct relationship between four sub-configurations and the usage levels of STEAM and the effect of environmental factors on the innovation configuration and the usage levels of STEAM have been conducted and their interactions are considered. The results show that 'Implementation' in the innovation configurations of STEAM and 'STEAM training experience' are most important factors to improve the usage levels of STEAM for elementary school teachers. It implies that the scales are very helpful in improving as well as figuring out the current innovation configurations of STEAM.
Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of individual cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for Patients with Primary or Secondary Insomnia. Methods: Participants were recruited from a primary care sleep clinic from January 2008 to June 2009. The study sample included 64 outpatients with primary insomnia (n=30) and secondary insomnia (n=34) according to the criteria of DSM-IV. Participants completed sleep diaries, Dysfunctional Beliefs and Attitudes about Sleep Scale-16 (DBAS), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) before CBT and shortly after completion of CBT. CBT was provided in 7 weekly, 40-50-minute individual therapy sessions. Results: Both groups of patients with primary and secondary insomnia showed significant improvement in the DBAS and sleep parameters including sleep onset latency, total sleep time, and sleep efficiency. Repeated-measures ANOVA of the DBAS and sleep parameters showed no significant group-by-time interactions between patients with primary and secondary insomnia, suggesting the efficacy of CBT for patients with secondary insomnia was equivalent to that of CBT for patients with primary insomnia. Conclusion: This study suggests that CBT is effective for the management of primary and secondary insomnia in a primary care setting.

The world largest land reclamation project in the name of Saemangeum(Ariul) from 1991 to the present has been implementing in a part of the west coast of Korea. In the Saemangeum reclamation project, the large-scale project cost is used for the landfill reclamation. A number of landfill reclamation methods have been studied in order to reduce the large-scale cost of the Saemangeum project under construction. There are many studies related to the on-site real-time monitoring with mobile systems for operating a wide range of landfill. In order to apply the work method for efficient cost-savings in the landfill operations to the Samangeum project, this paper develops a mobile management system that is composed of a mobile interface module, a data server module for data transmission and storage, and an analysis server module to analyze the input data and derive the results. The mobile system is designed by analysing user's and system requirements, functional interactions, and data flow using unified modeling language(UML). The user interface is developed for the on-site real-time monitoring through the status and related attributes of land reclamation by using the digital maps of the Samangeum coverage via mobile devices. Finally, a mobile management system would be developed that can provide a 3D GIS service based on the Dry Internal Project Site Digging Reclamation Method(DIPSDRM).
Major rice grain losses both in quality and in quantity are incurred in the whitening process which is indispensable in the milling process. Rice whitening it performed by two different whitening actions known as abrasive and frictional. In Korea, abrasive-type whiteners equipped with a emery-stone roller have been adopted in the whitening system in large scale milling plants, but not in customary small scale. However, researches on this type whitener have rarely been conducted in Korea. This study was attempted to establish design criteria or a modified abrasive-type whitener which is aerated with blower. The factors considered in this study were three levels of feedscrew pitch (20, 27, 34 mm) and three levels of clearance(11, 13, 15 mm) between surfaces or emery-stone roller and screen and two levels of moisture content (14.5%, 15.7%, w.b.) of brown rice. Also, the effect of aeration on whitening performance was examined, and a system performance consisting of one pass in the aerated abrasive-type and two passes in the existing friction type was compared with the performance of the existing whitening system consisting of three passes in friction type only. The latter system is prevailed in customery small milling plants. The results of this study are summarized as follows. 1. The interactions between feed-screw pitch and chamber clearance of the aerated abrasive-type whitener had great effect on the performance of the machine. When the value of a nondimensional parameter, $C^2/(P{\cdot}d_p)$, expressing the relations between feed-screw pitch, P, and chamber clearance, C, ranged from 0.40 to 0.45, the performance of the aerated abrasive-type whitener was the best. 2. Aeration to the abrasive-type whitener gave positive effect on milled and head rice recoveries. 3. The whitening system involving the aerated abrasive-type whitener, which has appropriate feed-screw pitch and chamber clearance as described in item 1 above, produced more milled and head rice recoveries by about 1.5% and 2.0%, respectively, than the existing frictional whitening system. The former also consumed less electricity by about 10% (0.9KwH/1000kg).

Mechanism of a periodic oscillation of shock-induced combustion over a two- dimensional wedges and axi-symmetric cones were investigated through a series of numerical simulations at off-attaching condition of oblique detonation waves(ODW). A same computational domain over 40 degree half-angle was considered for two-dimensional and axi-symmetric shock-induced combustion phenomena. For two-dimensional shock-induced combustion, a 2H2+02+17N2 mixture was considered at Mach number was 5.85with initial temperature 292 K and initial pressureof 12 KPa. The Rankine-Hugoniot relation has solution of attached waves at this condition. For axi-symmetric shock-induced combustion, a H2+2O2+2Ar mixture was considered at Mach number was 5.0 with initial temperature 288 K and initial pressure of 200 mmHg. The flow conditions were based on the conditions of similar experiments and numerical studies.[1, 3]Numerical simulation was carried out with a compressible fluid dynamics code with a detailed hydrogen-oxygen combustion mechanism.[4, 5] A series of calculations were carried out by changing the fluid dynamic time scale. The length wedge is varied as a simplest way of changing the fluid dynamic time scale. Result reveals that there is a chemical kinetic limit of the detached overdriven detonation wave, in addition to the theoretical limit predicted by Rankine-Hugoniot theory with equilibrium chemistry. At the off-attaching condition of ODW the shock and reaction waves still attach at a wedge as a periodically oscillating oblique shock-induced combustion, if the Rankine-Hugoniot limit of detachment isbut the chemical kinetic limit is not.Mechanism of the periodic oscillation is considered as interactions between shock and reaction waves coupled with chemical kinetic effects. There were various regimes of the periodicmotion depending on the fluid dynamic time scales. The difference between the two-dimensional and axi-symmetric simulations were distinct because the flow path is parallel and uniform behind the oblique shock waves, but is not behind the conical shock waves. The shock-induced combustion behind the conical shockwaves showed much more violent and irregular characteristics.From the investigation of characteristic chemical time, condition of the periodic instability is identified as follows; at the detaching condition of Rankine-Hugoniot theory, (1) flow residence time is smaller than the chemical characteristic time, behind the detached shock wave with heat addition, (2) flow residence time should be greater than the chemical characteristic time, behind an oblique shock wave without heat addition.
Korean studies are in crisis because they have fallen prey to the territorial trap associated with methodological territorialism and methodological nationalism. In order to overcome this situation, this paper suggests the studies on Korea to be more active in accepting the socio-spatial perspective that emphasize the inseparability of society and space. In particular, paying special attention to the 4 important dimensions of socio-spatial relations, such as place, territory, network and scale, it examines the ways in which these 4 dimensions are overlapped, interconnected and dynamically interacting with one another from the perspective of "multi-scalar networked territoriality". In conclusion, I argue that the Korean studies need to understand the variegated and multi-scalar nature of Korea, a place, which is constituted through complex interactions among diverse political, social, economic and cultural forces and processes that operate in various places and at diverse geographical scales.those days, such as agriculture, crops, and transportation of goods. Fifth, the bibliography and citations explaining all instances reveal that China (Qing) is a great civilization of the advanced world and that the scholarship of Joseon relied on and accepted it.
