  • This study aimed to investigate the effects of scaffolding on creativity in Wiki-based collaborative learning. Wiki-based collaborative learning was implemented over three sessions among 67 sixth graders in an elementary school, and subjects were divided into three groups: Group 1 had a teachers' scaffolding and self-questioning script; Group 2 had a teachers' scaffolding; and Group 3, the control group, had no scaffolding. Results showed a significant difference in creativity among the groups with different types of scaffolding(Wilks' Lambda=.238, F=8.678, p < .001). Group 1, had significantly higher performance compared to the Group in creativity. However, when self-questoning script and a teachers' scaffolding were offered, self-scaffolding was not found to have a significant effect on learners' Originality of creativity. Group 2 showed higher performance in Originality of creativity when only a teachers' scaffolding was offered in the collaborative learning. The results of this study suggest that teachers' scaffolding and self-scaffolding have positive effects on creativity, but the need for a differentiated self-scaffolding strategy to identify the factors that influence creativity in wiki-based collaborative learning.

  • In order to enhance the effect of Problem-based Learning, the role of scaffold as a learning support strategy is necessary. Collective intelligence provides scaffolding in the sense that it integrates users' knowledge, information, experiences, values, etc. Based on these factors, collective intelligence determines the direction of behavior, revises the direction continuously, and provides problem-solving methods. Teaching and learning situations emphasize learners' initiative, voluntary, and active participation. Thus, this study was conducted to find out if collective intelligence can be an effective and attractive alternative of learning strategy. Specifically, this study purposed to examine how collective intelligence performs the role of scaffold on the Web and what types of scaffolding are provided to learners. According to the results of this study, collective intelligence had a positive effect on learners' learning attitude, confidence, interest, etc. in the affective aspect, but its effect on the cognitive aspect was different according to learners' school year and learning level. Because collective intelligence had a positive effect on learners, we identified scaffolding types explanation, suggestion of direction, illustration and feedback in the cognitive aspect, and positive response and encouragement in the affective aspect.

  • In this study, the adolescents' perception of the Information Search Process(ISP); their anxiety and the need for intervention during the process were investigated based on Kuhlthau's ISP model, and the relationship among the factors was analyzed with structural equations. In addition, the effectiveness of scaffolding strategy to the experimental group during the class was verified. The main findings are as follows. First, as a result of exploring the anxiety felt by learners and the need for intervention in the information search process, it was found that the presentation stage had a significant effect on the anxiety, and the collection, presentation, and assessment stages had significant effects on the need for intervention. Second, as a result of controlling each variable to investigate the anxiety felt by learners and necessity of intervention in the information search process, it was confirmed that among the demographic variables, the difference between the first graders and the second ones was significant; and the difference in the metropolitan area was more significant than that in the Gangwon province. Third, as a result of paired t-test and covariance analysis on the control group and the experimental group, it was confirmed that the anxiety and need for intervention of the experimental group were statistically significantly reduced. The significance of this study lies in the point that it presents a practical basis for applying scaffolding strategies appropriate to information search process in the field of education.

  • Inspired by the idea that classroom instruction proceeds through knowledge-sharing, this study examined different modes of knowledge-sharing that were realized in discursive practices in Korean secondary science classrooms. Data came from 9 science teachers. An interpretative strategy was employed to analyze the video-recording of the teachers' own science classrooms and transcriptions. The results showed four different modes of knowledge-sharing, including 'retrieving subject matter knowledge', 'reformulating subject matter knowledge', 'expansion and elaboration of understanding', and 'negotiation of meaning'. It was also revealed that there was a tie between an active mode of knowledge-sharing and scaffolding: the former allowed students to take active roles in discourses and the latter was one of the desired patterns of classroom interaction. It was suggested that further studies should be conducted to understand science instruction from more varied perspectives and to examine and utilize the detailed features of desired classroom practices like scaffolding.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze one science teacher's understanding of student argumentation and his explicit teaching strategies for implementing it in the classroom. One middle school science teacher, Mr. Field, and his students of 54 participated in this study. Data were collected through three semi-structured interviews, 60 hours of classroom observations, and two times of students' lab reports for eight weeks. Coding categories were developed describing the teacher's understanding of scientific argumentation and a description of the main teaching strategy, the Claim-Evidence Approach, was introduced. Toulmin's approach was employed to analyze student discourse as responses to see how much of this discourse was argumentative. The results indicated that Mr. Field defined scientific inquiry as the abilities of procedural skills through experimentation and of reasoning skills through argumentation. The Claim-Evidence Approach provided students with opportunities to develop their own claims based on their readings, design the investigation for evidence, and differentiate pieces of evidence from data to support their claims and refute others. During this approach, the teacher's role of scaffolding was critical to shift students' less extensive argumentation to more extensive argumentation through his prompts and questions. The different level of teacher's involvement, his explicit teaching strategy, and the students' scientific knowledge influenced the students' ability to develop and improve argumentation.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the Big6 model and the Big6 modification model to find out the characteristics of the Big6 model and to derive implications for applying the Big6 model in the field. For this purpose, the information literacy standards of the AASL and the ACRL were compared with the Big6 model. The Big6 model, influenced by Bloom's taxonomy was analyzed alongside the Big6+3 model, the Big8 model and the modified Big6 model, provided by LG Science Land. As a result, the Big6 model could be used as an information problem-solving model, metacognitive activation strategy, and scaffolding to improve students' information literacy. In addition, it could be used as a model for constructivism, inquiry-based learning, the integration of curriculum, collaborative education, and ICT technology. How teacher-librarians or librarians apply the Big6 model is related to the improvement of critical thinking skills. Teacher-librarians and librarians need to plan situations, subjects, topics, and methods in a systematic and specific way when applying the Big6 model to the information literacy curriculum.
