Purpose: This study was done to identify the relationship of perceived health status, leisure satisfaction, loneliness and life satisfaction and to identify predictors of life satisfaction for elders. Method: The research design for this study was a descriptive survey design using a convenience sample. Data collection was done using self-report questionnaires with 297 elders from 6 community health practitioner posts. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients and hierarchical multiple regression with the SPSS Win 18.0 Program. Results: Life satisfaction had significant negative correlations with age (r=-.31, p<.001) and loneliness (r=-.73, p<.001), and positive correlations with monthly spending money (r=.44, p<.001), health status (r=.63, p<.001), and leisure satisfaction (r=.62, p<.001). The explained variance for life satisfaction was 72%. Variables of monthly spending money, health status, leisure satisfaction, and loneliness significantly predicted the degree on life satisfaction of these elders. Conclusion: Findings of this study provide a comprehensive understanding of life satisfaction and related factors for elders in Korea. However, further studies with a larger random sample and more detailed research design are necessary.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship among self-efficacy, depression, life satisfaction and death attitude of college students. Methods: The subjects consisted of 232 college students. Data were collected by self-reported questionnaires, which were constructed to include self-efficacy, depression, satisfaction with life, and death attitude. Data were analyzed by the SPSS/PC WIN. 12.0 program. Results: Death attitude and life satisfaction of college students were significantly different according to frequency of death ideation. Death attitude for college students correlated with self-efficacy, depression, and life satisfaction. The most significant predictor of death attitude for college students was life satisfaction. Conclusion: The above findings indicate that death attitude for college students is influenced by self-efficacy, depression, and life satisfaction. These findings suggest that a death education program to improve life satisfaction and to give a positive attitude toward death is needed for college students.
The purposes of this study were to find the general trends of aged couples' marital conflict, life satisfaction, and to examine relationships between husbands' marital conflict, life satisfaction and those of wives, and to investigate effective variables influencing on their life satisfaction. The subjects were the 218 couples over 60 years old living in Gwangju. Trained researchers interviewed the subjects with structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed with mean, sd, Cronbach' α, paired-t test, Pearson's correlation and Hierarchical Regression using SAS program. The major findings were as follows; 1. The marital conflict scores of husbands and wives were lower than median and wives' marital conflict scores were higher than those of husbands. The average scores of life satisfaction were higher than median and Husbands achieved higher scores in life satisfaction than wives. 2. Husbands' marital conflict and life satisfaction were positively related to those of wives. 3. Husbands' life satisfaction was influenced by health, self-esteem, filial support, acquaintances' support, marital conflict. Wives' life satisfaction was influenced by income, health, marital intimacy, filial support, acquaintances' support, marital conflict. Spouses marital conflict was significantly effective variable to wives' life satisfaction, but no significant to husbands'.
The purpose of study is to examine the effects of family support on the life satisfaction of elderly with disabilities and provide a ground necessary to improve it. Research was conducted on 167 elderly with hearing, visual and physical disabilities aged over 60 who were living in Seoul and Pusan. Telephone survey, sign language and interview, in accordance with types of disability, were adopted to collect data effectively. That is telephone survey was used for elderly with visual impairment whereas face-to-face interview for physical impairment and sign language for hearing impairment by volunteers. Collected data were analyzed, using hierarchical regression analysis. This study utilized two different models, direct effect model and buffering effect of social support in order to examine the effects of familial support on the life satisfaction of elderly with disabilities. Research findings suggest that the level of life satisfaction appeared to be low in general among elderly with disabilities and emotional family support exerted a positive effect on life satisfaction. In addition, it is empirically supported that emotional family support buffered the negative effect of economic limitations on life satisfaction. In other words, the effects of economic limitations as stress factor decreased with the increase in the frequency of emotional support, however, the level of life satisfaction decreased at a mercy of the stress factor of economic limitations with the decrease in the frequency of emotional support. Finally, this paper attempted to provide some alternatives to effectively improve life satisfaction among elderly with disabilities based on empirical findings.
Objectives: The main objectives of this research is to reveal the mediating effects of subjective health rates on the relationship between stress and life satisfaction of the persons with mental illness. Methods: This study used the data from 2011 Disabled survey by Ministry of health and welfare. The study subjects were 98,801 persons with mental illness. Mediating effects of subjective health rate was analyzed using regression analysis and sobel test. Results: The stress was negatively correlated with the subjective health rates and life satisfaction. And the subjective health rates was positively correlated with life satisfaction. Second, the subjective health rates worked as partial mediators on the relationship between stress and life satisfaction of the persons with mental illness. The implication and limitations of this study were discussed, and suggestions for further study were proposed. Conclusion: This study highlights that the mediating effects of subjective health rates on the relationship between stress and life satisfaction of the persons with mental illness. Health and welfare policy encouraging subjective health rates and reducing level of the stress to improve life satisfaction of the persons with mental illness should be considered.
Purpose: This purpose of study was to investigate the relationships among functional state, self-efficacy, and life satisfaction in the elderly with decreased visual acuity. Methods: The subjects were 162 elderly people from the G university hospital. Functional state was measured by Late-Life Function and Disability Instrument (LLFDI) and Minimum Data Set-Home Care version 2.0 (MDS HC 2.0). Self-efficacy and Life satisfaction were measured by the tool of Rho & Lee (2011) and Yoon (2007). Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, and logistic regression. Results: The daily life function was significantly associated with self-efficacy and vision decrease. The regression model with these two variables explained 35.6% of the variance of daily life function. IADL was significantly associated with vision decrease, age, gender, and self-efficacy. The regression model with the three variables explained 52.9% of the variance of IADL. Life satisfaction is significantly associated with self-efficacy, daily life function, vision decrease and IADL. The last regression model with the four variables explained 51.8% of the variance of life satisfaction. Conclusion: The levels of functional state, self-efficacy and life satisfaction in the elderly with decreased visual acuity were low. Self-efficacy was an important factor that influences on the functional state and life satisfaction. Therefore, nursing interventions that can enhance the self-efficacy are required in order to increase the functional state and life satisfaction in the elderly with decreased visual acuity.
The study attempts to explore factors which affect life satisfaction of the elderly, and thereby to identify the most efficient strategy to enhance their happiness and satisfaction with life by means of a family support system. Previous research suggests that the family is the main origin from which emotional and ecionomic satisfacton of the aged evolves, and satisfaction is facilitated by societal assistance for the family to financially support old persons. These theoretical antecedents are incorporated into a causal model for empirical verificatio. To this end, interviews were conducted in Seoul with 300 individuals who are 60 years old or over. The major findings of this study support the theoretical assertions of previous studies. They are summarized as follows : 1. Family solidarity is highly correlated with life satisfaction of the elderly. 2. Family solidarity is raised by the intensity of their social association, satisfaction with housing, and financial resources. 3. Eduation, income and marital status as exogenous variables do not directly affect life satisfaction and family solidarity, despite their strong overall correlation. Casual effects of each variable are linked to family solidarity and then to life satisfaction through a family support system for the elderly.
This study explored the effects of parenting efficacy and parental role satisfaction on the life-satisfaction of employed and unemployed mothers. The 527 mothers(234 employed, and 277 unemployed), with a child under 7 years old, were selected for this study. The results were as follows. First, employment had significant correlations with several factors, including the number of children, family income, educational level of parents, parent-child relations, preparedness for parental role conflict, and life-satisfaction. Second, for employed mothers, life-satisfaction had positive relationships with various factors, including family income, fathers' educational level, parenting efficacy, and parental role satisfaction; whereas, that of unemployed mothers had positive relationships with parenting efficacy, and parental role satisfaction. Third, for employed mothers, life-satisfaction was affected by several factors, such as family income, parental role satisfaction, parent-child relations, and preparedness for parental role conflict; however, unemployed mothers were affected by the number of children, the fathers' educational level, and self-confidence relating to the parental role, general satisfaction, and preparedness for parental role conflict.

The subject of the survey was 184 intermarried Korean men. The data were analyzed with frequency, Pearson's correlation and structural equation modeling by SPSS and AMOS. Instruments were social maladapatation and depression of Shin(2001)'s Mental Health Scale, Block and Kremen(1996)'s Ego Resilience Scale, and Bradburn(1969)'s Structure of Psychological well-being, and Olson and Barnes(1982)' Quality of Life. The major findings were as follows: Social maladapataion and depression were negatively correlated with ego resilience and daily life satisfaction. Ego resilience was positively correlated with daily life satisfaction. Ego resilience mediated the effects of social maladaptation, depression and daily life satisfaction. Social maladaptation and depression influenced ego resilience. Ego resilience influenced positively daily life satisfaction. In conclusion, it is important to intervene intermarried Korean men's daily life satisfaction through special education program and counseling in order to build ego resilience.
