COMS(Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) has multiple payloads; Meteorological Image(MI), Ocean Color Imager(GOCI) and Ka-band communication payloads. MI has 4 IR and 1 visible channel. In order to improve the quality of IR image, two calibration sources are used; black body image and cold space look data. In case of COMS, the space look is performed at 10.4 degree away from the nadir in east/west direction. During space look, SUN or moon intrusions are strictly forbidden, because it would degrade the quality of collected IR channel calibration data. Therefore we shall pay attention to select space look side depending on SUN and moon location. This paper proposes and discusses a simple and complete space look side selection logic based on SUN and moon intrusion event file. Computer simulation has been performed to analyze the performance of the proposed algorithm in term of east/west angular distance between space look position and hazardous intrusion sources; SUN and moon.

The arid regions of western China are currently the focus of extensive exploration and development. This paper reports on recent experience gained by Chinese and Canadian project team members in the use of a variety of Earth observation satellite imagery for oil exploration and environmental assessment exercises in the Kuche area of Xinjiang. Through careful archival data selection and more recent data acquisition schemes, we have established several time series of MODIS, Landsat and Radarsat imagery in order to obtain a better understanding for daily, seasonal as well as decadal changes of the natural environment as well as man-made environmental features.

This paper describes EGSE design for the small satellite such like KOMPSAT-2 satellite. Recent design trend of small satellite and EGSE is to take short development time and less cost. For this purpose, the design for KOMPSAT-2 satellite and EGSE are not much modified from KOMPSAT-1 heritage. It means that it is able to be accommodated the verified hardware and software modules used in KOMPSAT-1 satellite program if possible. The objective of EGSE is to provide hardware and software for efficient electrical testing of integrated KOMPSAT-2 satellite in three general categories. (1) Simulators for ground testing (e.g. solar-simulation power, earth scenes, horizons and sun sensor). (2) Ground station type satellite data acquisition and processing test sets. (3) Overall control of satellite using hardline datum. In KOMPSAT (KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite) program, KOMPSAT-2 EGSE was developed to support satellite integration and test activities. The KOMPSAT-2 EGSE was designed in parallel with satellite design. Consequently, the KOMPSAT-2 EGSE was based on the KOMPSAT-1 heritage since the spacecraft design followed the heritage. The KOMPSAT-2 baseline was elaborated by taking advantage of experience from KOMPSAT-1 program. The EGSE of KOMPSAT-2 design concept is generic modular design with preference in part selection with commercial off-the-shelf which were proven from KOMPSAT-1 programs, flexible/user friendly operational environment (graphical interface preferred), minimized new design and self test capability.
In order to develop star trackers for a satellite in our country we studies selection procedure of optical parameters. For logical selection of the optical parameters, we simulated the entire processes in which star lights imaged on a CCD sensor were read into and processed in an associated electronics. The simulation resulted in relations between star's magnitude and achievable pointing accuracy, from which we derived optimal optical parameters to satisfy a required pointing accuracy of a star tracker. The selected optical parameters were used in an optical system design of a star tracker with a pointing accuracy of 10 arcsec.

In this paper, we present measurement method of the unknown load impedance. Load impedance is continuously varied by external environment conditions. This arbitrarily varied load impedance can be calculated using 3-point voltage measurement on ${\lambda}/4$ sectioned transmission line. We derived several numerical formulas from 3-point voltage measurement results and drew load impedance selection algorithm from calculated load impedance results. These numerical formulas and load impedance selection algorithm are verified by ADS simulation. Simulation results showed that arbitrary load impedance can be correctly measured using above mentioned formulas and selection algorithm.
Multi-body spacecraft attitude and configuration control formulations based on the use of collaborative control theory are considered. The control formulations are based on two-player, nonzero-sum, differential game theory applied using a Nash strategy. It is desired that the control laws allow different components of the multi-body system to perform different tasks. For example, it may be desired that one body points toward a fixed star while another body in the system slews to track another satellite. Although similar to the linear quadratic regulator formulation, the collaborative control formulation contains a number of additional design parameters because the problem is formulated as two control problems coupled together. The use of the freedom of the partitioning of the total problem into two coupled control problems and the selection of the elements of the cross-coupling matrices are specific problems ad-dressed in this paper. Examples are used to show that significant improvement in performance, as measured by realistic criteria, of collaborative control over conventional linear quadratic regulator control can be achieved by using proposed design guidelines.
Overhead transmission line design supporting program using high spatial resolution satellite imagery has been developed recently by Korea Power Engineering Company, The developed program, ITSS(Interactive Tower Spotting System) is purposed to improve the application of satellite imagery with the route selection of overhead transmission line. It is composed of spotting the tower position and designing the tower type and height with DEM(Digital Elevation Model) overlaid with satellite Imagery. To review and confirm the function and work efficiency, ITSS was applied to the pilot project of overhead transmission line design.
Due to its inherent feature of high-resolution satellite, there is strong need in some specific area to minimize the processing time required to get a standard image on hand from downlink signal acquisition. However, in general image processing system, it takes considerable time to get image data up to certain level from raw data acquisition because the huge amount of data is dealt sequentially as input data. This paper introduces the high-speed image processing system which generates the image data only for the area selected by user. To achieve the high speed performance, this system includes Quick Look Image display function with sampling, ROI selection function, Image Line Index function, and Distributed processing function. The developed RPS was applied to KOMPSAT-2 320Mbps downlink channel and its effectiveness was successfully demonstrated. This feature to provide the image product very quickly is expected to promote the application of high resolution satellite image.
The problem of assigning customers to satellite channels is a difficult combinatorial optimization problem and is NP-complete. For this combinatorial optimization problem, standard optimization methods take a large computation time and so genetic algorithms (GA) and ant colony optimization (ACO) can be used to obtain the best and/or optimal assignment of customers to satellite channels. In this paper, we present a comparative study of GA and ACO to this problem. Various issues related to genetic algorithms approach to this problem, such as solution representation, selection methods, genetic operators and repair of invalid solutions are presented. We also discuss an ACO for this problem. In ACO methodology, three strategies, ACO with only ranking, ACO with only max-min ant system (MMAS), and ACO with both ranking and MMAS, are considered. A comparison of these two approaches (i,e., GA and ACO) with the standard optimization method is presented to show the advantages of these approaches in terms of computation time.
Classification is considered as one of the processes of extracting attributes from satellite imagery and is one of the usual functions in the commercial satellite image processing software. Accuracy of classification plays a key role in deciding the usage of its results. Many tremendous efforts far the higher accuracy have been done in such fields; training area selection, classification algorithm. Our research is one of these effort in different manners. In this research, we conduct classification using multiple satellite image data and evidential approach. We statistically consider the posterior probabilities and certainty in maximum likelihood classification and methodologically Dempster's orthogonal sums. Unfortunately, accuracy for the whole data sets has not assessed yet, but accuracy assessments in training fields and check fields shows accuracy improvement over 10% in overall accuracy and over 0.1 in kappa index.
