  • Rollers in the continuous process systems are ones of key components that determine the quality of web products. The condition of rollers (e.g. eccentricity, runout) should be consistently monitored in order to maintain the process conditions (e.g. tension, edge position) within a required specification. In this paper, a new diagnosis algorithm is suggested to detect the defective rollers based on the frequency analysis of web tension signals. The kernel of this technique is to use the characteristic features (RMS, Peak value, Power spectral density) of tension signals which allow the identification of the faulty rollers and the diagnosis of the degree of fault in the rollers. The characteristic features could be used to train an artificial neural network which could classify roller conditions into three groups (normal, warning, and faulty conditions) The simulation and experimental results showed that the suggested diagnosis algorithm can be successfully used to identify the defective rollers as well as to diagnose the degree of the defect of those rollers.

  • A variety of sensors and equipment are installed on passenger ships. Data collection from these sensors and associated equipment is required for the safe navigation and behavior analysis of ships, but when the ship sails out of the area where it is not possible to use the LTE communication, other types of networks have to be able to support to transmit these information. such as AIS, satellite communication and MF/HF. In this paper, we survey data protocol of onboard sensors and design ASM messages to transfer sensor data on board to the shore-side system.

  • This paper presents the equivalent circuit modelling and eigenfrequency analysis of a wideband robust capacitive radio frequency (RF) microelectromechanical system (MEMS) switch that was designed using Poly-Si and Au layer membrane for highly reliable switching operation. The circuit characterization includes the extraction of resistance, inductance, on and off state capacitance, and Q-factor. The first six eigenfrequencies are analyzed using a finite element modeler, and the equivalent modes are demonstrated. The switch is optimized for millimeter wave frequencies, which indicate excellent RF performance with isolation of more than 55 dB and a low insertion loss of 0.1 dB in the V-band. The designed switch actuates at 13.2 V. The R, L, C and Q-factor are simulated using Y-matrix data over a frequency sweep of 20-100 GHz. The proposed switch has various applications in satellite communication networks and can also be used for devices that will incorporate the upcoming IEEE Wi-Fi 802.11ad protocol.

  • In this paper, the planar waveguide slotted array antenna is presented, which has the 3-layered structure of feeding networks for a high gain. Due to the ionosphere which generates 'Faraday rotation', the skew is happened between the signal radiated from an artificial satellite and the receiving antenna. This causes a polarization loss. In this paper, to remove this polarization loss, the dumbbell shaped linear polarizer using a single layer film is proposed. The gain of proposed antenna is 29.4dB.

  • In the TV broadcasting, movie production and business the transportation of video between creators (programmers, studios) and distributors (broadcast and cable networks, cable and satellites companies) is still a mix of File Transfer Protocol (FTP), physical delivery, and expensive multicast satellite. Cloud-based file sync-and-share providers like Dropbox and box are playing an increasing role, but the industry's unique demands for speed and multicasting have fueled the growth of IP Video transport. This paper gives a solid grasp of the major elements of IP video technology, including content preparation, system architecture alternatives and network performance management.

  • To improve the number of simultaneous transmissions of machine-to-machine traffic in a spread spectrum ALOHA channel, we propose a new spreading technique called doubly truncated cyclic code shift keying (DTCCSK). By truncating the codeset of cyclic code shift keying, DTCCSK freely adjusts the spreading factor and the symbol length. As a result, DTCCSK exhibits both a high spectral efficiency of M-ary signaling and low implementation complexity of a direct sequence.

  • Road networks are important geospatial databases for various GIS (Geographic Information System) applications. Road digital maps may contain geometric spatial errors due to human and scanning errors, but manually updating roads information is time consuming. In this paper, we developed a new road features updating methodology using from multispectral high-resolution satellite image and pre-existing vector map. The approach is based on initial seed point generation using line segment matching and a modified double snake algorithm. Firstly, we conducted line segment matching between the road vector data and the edges of image obtained by Canny operator. Then, the translated road data was used to initialize the seed points of the double snake model in order to refine the updating of road features. The double snake algorithm is composed of two open snake models which are evolving jointly to keep a parallel between them. In the proposed algorithm, a new energy term was added which behaved as a constraint. It forced the snake nodes not to be out of potential road pixels in multispectral image. The experiment was accomplished using a QuickBird pan-sharpened multispectral image and 1:5,000 digital road maps of Daejeon. We showed the feasibility of the approach by presenting results in this urban area.

  • On this study, Among the classification methods of land cover using satellite imagery, we compared the classification accuracy of Neural Network Classifier and that of Maximum Likelihood Classifier which has the characteristics of parametric and non-parametric classification method. In the assessment of classification accuracy, we analyzed the classification accuracy about testing area as well as training area that many analysts use generally when assess the classification accuracy. As a result, Neural Network Classifier is superior to Maximum Likelihood Classifier as much as 3% in the classification of training data. When ground reference data is used, we could get poor result from both of classification methods, but we could reach conclusion that the classification result of Neural Network Classifier is superior to the classification result of Maximum Likelihood Classifier as much as 10%.

  • There nay be fierce debate over the nature of the medium that will herald the brave new world copper, fiber, wireless or satellite there is little doubt that future networks will be broadband in their capabilities. The Republic of Korea is a significant exception and leads the world, at present, in terms of number of subscribers with broadband access via ADSL. In order to further drive the growth in the broadband Internet access market, the government is scheduled to implement open access for ISPs and unbundling of the local loops of incumbent public telecom operators during the course of 2001. By the Way, Should incumbent telecommunication operators be obliged to provide unbundled access to the local loop\ulcorner

  • A neat prefect stable random access protocol for a broadcast channel, the distributed queuing random access protocol(DQRAP)is presented and evaluated. The DQRAP prootcol utilizes minisolts to provide termaty chan-nel feedback and two distributed queues to:9a) resolve contention and (b) to schedute the transmission of messages.Three minislots are sufficient to resolve collisions faster than the tranmission times of all inboled mecages.Three minislots are suffcient to resolve collisions faster than the tranmission times of all inbolved arrivals when ternary minislot feedback is used.Modelingand simulation indicate that the DQRAP protocol, using as few as three minislits, achives a performance level which approaches that of hypothetical perfect cheduling protocol,ie,the M/D/I system, with respect to propagation delay, thus offers the potential of improved performance over current protocols in satellite, metropolitan and packet radio networks.
