복합측지망의 조합에 따른 수평위치의 정확도 비교 (Accuracy Comparison of horizontal position by combination of the geodetic networks.)

  • 각과 거리를 동시관측할 수 있는 Total station과 3차원 위성 측량 시스템인 GPS는 대형 측지망의 재조정 및 설정을 위해 최근 이의 활용이 크게 기대되고 있다. 본 연구는 동시에 관측한 각과 거리의 과대오차를 검출하고 측지망 간의 다양한 결합조정에 따른 오차의 특성을 고찰함으로서 대형 측지망 조합에의 적용 가능성을 제시한 것이다. 연구 결과, 본 기법은 단기간내 높은 정확도로 측지망을 조합 조정할 수 있었으므로 크고 작은 건설공사는 물론 범 국가적인 측지망의 구성에 이용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Long-term and multidisciplinary research networks on biodiversity and terrestrial ecosystems: findings and insights from Takayama super-site, central Japan

  • Growing complexity in ecosystem structure and functions, under impacts of climate and land-use changes, requires interdisciplinary understandings of processes and the whole-system, and accurate estimates of the changing functions. In the last three decades, observation networks for biodiversity, ecosystems, and ecosystem functions under climate change, have been developed by interested scientists, research institutions and universities. In this paper we will review (1) the development and on-going activities of those observation networks, (2) some outcomes from forest carbon cycle studies at our super-site "Takayama site" in Japan, and (3) a few ideas how we connect in-situ and satellite observations as well as fill observation gaps in the Asia-Oceania region. There have been many intensive research and networking efforts to promote investigations for ecosystem change and functions (e.g., Long-Term Ecological Research Network), measurements of greenhouse gas, heat, and water fluxes (flux network), and biodiversity from genetic to ecosystem level (Biodiversity Observation Network). Combining those in-situ field research data with modeling analysis and satellite remote sensing allows the research communities to up-scale spatially from local to global, and temporally from the past to future. These observation networks oftern use different methodologies and target different scientific disciplines. However growing needs for comprehensive observations to understand the response of biodiversity and ecosystem functions to climate and societal changes at local, national, regional, and global scales are providing opportunities and expectations to network these networks. Among the challenges to produce and share integrated knowledge on climate, ecosystem functions and biodiversity, filling scale-gaps in space and time among the phenomena is crucial. To showcase such efforts, interdisciplinary research at 'Takayama super-site' was reviewed by focusing on studies on forest carbon cycle and phenology. A key approach to respond to multidisciplinary questions is to integrate in-situ field research, ecosystem modeling, and satellite remote sensing by developing cross-scale methodologies at long-term observation field sites called "super-sites". The research approach at 'Takayama site' in Japan showcases this response to the needs of multidisciplinary questions and further development of terrestrial ecosystem research to address environmental change issues from local to national, regional and global scales.

C-BLRNN을 이용한 위성채널 등화기 (Satellite communication Equalizer Using Complex Bilinear Recurrent Neural Network)

  • Equalization of satellite communication using Complex-Bilinear Recurrent Neural Network(C-BLRNN) is proposed in this pater. Since the BLRNN is based on the bilinear polynomial and it has been more effectively used in modeling highly nonlinear systems with time-series characteristics than multi-layer perception type neural networks(MLPNN) , it can be applied to satellite equalizer. the proposed C-BLRNN based equalizer for M-PSK with a channel model is compared with Volterra filter Equalizer, DFE, and conventional Complex MLPNN Equlizer. The results show that the proposed C-BLRNN based equalizer gives very favorable results in both of MSE and BER criteria over other equalizers.

Performance Analysis of MCDD in an OBP Satellite Communications System

  • Multi-carrier demultiplexer/demodulator (MCDD) in an on-board processing (OBP) satellite used for digital multimedia services has two typical architectures according to the channel demultiplexing procedure: Multistage multi-carrier demultiplexer (M-MCD) or poly-phase fast Fourier transform (PPF). During the channel demultiplexing, phase and quantization errors influence the performance of MCDD; those errors affect the bit error rate (BER) performance of M-MCD and PPF differently. In this paper, we derive the phase error variances that satisfy the condition that M-MCD and PPF have the same signal to noise ratio according to quantization bits, and then, with these results, analyze the BER performances of M-MCD and PPF. The results provided here may be a useful reference for the selection of M-MCD or PPF in designing the MCDD in an OBP satellite communications system.

Design of Airborne Terminal System for Joint Tactical Data Link System Complete Data-link

  • In this paper, design measure were proposed for the construction of terminal systems for airborne platforms, which are key element in the Joint Tactical Data Link System (JTDLS) complete system. The Korean perfect tactical data link (JTDLS) is a communication system to establish an independent tactical data link network and needs to develop a MIDS-LVT (Link-16) communication terminal for datalink. Once a Ground/Navy JTDLS terminal system is established around airborne platform, it will be possible to break away from reliance on NATO-based tactical data link joint operations and establish independent Korean surveillance reconnaissance real-time data sharing and tactical data link operations concepts. in this paper, the essential development elements of airborne platform mounting and operable JTDLS terminals are presented, and the concept of system design is proposed to embody them. Further, improved system performance was analyzed by applying the concepts of complex relative navigation system and Advanced TDMA protocol for the deployment of airborne tactical datalink networks.

대화형 GEO 위성 네트워크를 위한 우선권기반 동적 데이터 전송률 스케줄링 체계 (Prioritized Dynamic Rate Scheduling for Interactive GEO Satellite Networks)

  • In this paper, the return link of interactive GEO satellite network providing multimedia services is considered. First, we classify data by delay characteristics, and analyze the numbers of expected lost packets and expected delay packets for each data class of each terminal. Next we mathematically formulate optimal rate scheduling model to minimize the weighted sum of the numbers of expected lost packets and expected delay packets considering priority of each data class. We also suggest a dynamic rate scheduling scheme based on Lagrangean relaxation technique and subgradient technique to solve the proposed model in a fast time. Extensive experiments show that the proposed scheme provides encouraging results.

  • 미래의 이동통신에서 하이브리드/통합 위성-지상 시스템의 중요성이 증가할 것으로 예상된다. 대부분의 이동통신 시스템은 지상 시스템 규격에 맞게 구성되어 있는데 이 경우 위성 시스템에 적합하게 호환성을 가지도록 하는 것이 시스템의 효율성 측면에서 매우 중요하다. 모든 4G 이동통신의 지상 시스템 규격에서는 자원을 효과적으로 사용하기 위해 수 msec 단위로 갱신이 가능한 적응형 변조 및 부호화 방식을 채택하였으나 위성 시스템의 긴 왕복지연 때문에 이러한 적응형 방식을 그대로 적용하기는 불가능하고, 단기 페이딩에 효과적으로 대응할 수 없다. 본 논문에서는 지상 시스템 규격과 최대의 호환성을 가지면서도 이동위성통신 시스템의 채널 환경에 적합한 적응형 변조 및 부호화 방식을 제시한다. 또, 단기 페이딩에 효과적으로 대응하기 위해 인터리버를 결합한 성능 시뮬레이션 결과를 비교 분석한다.

  • 이동 Ad-hoc 네트워크 (MANET: Mobile Ad-hoc Network)는 기존의 통신 인프라의 구축 여부와 무관하게 무선 단말기간의 통신이 가능한 네트워크이다. Ad-hoc 네트워크는 음영지역, 재난지역, 전쟁 시와 같은 통신 인프라가 구축되기 어려운 상황에서 유용하게 사용 될 수 있다. 그러나 음성 및 데이터 서비스 등과 같은 무선 서비스의 제공을 위해 많은 양의 네트워크 용량이 필요하게 되지만 기존의 제한된 주파수 자원에 따른 주파수 부족 상황 및 주파수 자원정책의 규제에 따라 원활한 주파수 사용이 어려운 상황이다. 이에 따라 높은 주파수 활용을 제공하는 인지 무선 시스템을 ad-hoc네트워크에 적용하여 보다 다양하고 확장된 네트워크 서비스를 제공할 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 인지 무선 기반 ad-hoc 네트워크에서 주로 사용되는 에너지 검출 기법의 성능 향상을 위해, 다중 안테나를 이용한 인지 무선 기반 ad-hoc 네트워크 시스템을 제안하여 신호 검출 성능을 보였다.

The Operational Procedure on Estimating Typhoon Center Intensity using Meteorological Satellite Images in KMA

  • Korea Meteorological Administration(KMA) has issued the tropical storm(typhoon) warning or advisories when it was developed to tropical storm from tropical depression and a typhoon is expected to influence the Korean peninsula and adjacent seas. Typhoon information includes current typhoon position and intensity. KMA has used the Dvorak Technique to analyze the center of typhoon and it's intensity by using available geostationary satellites' images such as GMS, GOES-9 and MTSAT-1R since 2001. The Dvorak technique is so subjective that the analysis results could be variable according to analysts. To reduce the subjective errors, QuikSCAT seawind data have been used with various analysis data including sea surface temperature from geostationary meteorological satellites, polar orbit satellites, and other observation data. On the other hand, there is an advantage of using the Subjective Dvorak Technique(SDT). SDT can get information about intensity and center of typhoon by using only infrared images of geostationary meteorology satellites. However, there has been a limitation to use the SDT on operational purpose because of lack of observation and information from polar orbit satellites such as SSM/I. Therefore, KMA has established Advanced Objective Dvorak Technique(AODT) system developed by UW/CIMSS(University of Wisconsin-Madison/Cooperative Institude for Meteorological Satellite Studies) to improve current typhoon analysis technique, and the performance has been tested since 2005. We have developed statistical relationships to correct AODT CI numbers according to the SDT CI numbers that have been presumed as truths of typhoons occurred in northwestern pacific ocean by using linear, nonlinear regressions, and neural network principal component analysis. In conclusion, the neural network nonlinear principal component analysis has fitted best to the SDT, and shown Root Mean Square Error(RMSE) 0.42 and coefficient of determination($R^2$) 0.91 by using MTSAT-1R satellite images of 2005. KMA has operated typhoon intensity analysis using SDT and AODT since 2006 and keep trying to correct CI numbers.
