Bus Voltage Drop Analysis Caused by Payload Operation of LEO Satellite (저궤도 인공위성 탑재체 구동에 따른 버스 전압 강하 해석)

  • SAR payload of LEO satellite will consume about 150A current. This high current makes the voltage drop between battery, satellite main bus and payload interface, which cannot guarantee the input voltage level of the satellite electrical unit and payload. So, it is necessary to predict the main bus and payload input voltage level when the payload works. In this paper, the worst case analysis of the harness and contact resistance was executed and predicted the voltage drop when the payload works.

  • The currently developed propulsion system(PS) is composed of propellant tank, valves, thrusters, interconnecting line assembly and thermal hardwares to prevent propellant freezing in the space environment. Comprehensive engineering analyses in the structure, thermal, flow and plume fields are performed to evaluate main design parameters and to verify their suitabilities concurrently at the design phase. The integrated PS has undergone a series of acceptance tests to verify workmanship, performance, and functionality prior to spacecraft level integration. After all the processes of assembly, integration and test are completed, the PS is integrated with the satellite bus system successfully. At present, the severe environmental tests have been carried out to evaluate functionality performances of satellite bus system. This paper summarizes an overall development process of monopropellant propulsion system for the attitude and orbit control of LEO(Low Earth Orbit) observation satellite from the design engineering up to the integration and test.

  • This paper proposes a new power-stage circuit that can be available for modularization of the power regulator which is used at the software-controlled unregulated bus system. And we analyze the proposed power-stage operation according to its operating modes and verify it by performing software simulation and hardware experiment using prototype. By constructing a parallel-module converter which is composed of proposed power-stages, we verify the operations and usefulness of the proposed power-stage.

  • This paper defines the electrical interfaces and limited items to integrate Ka-band communication payload on the satellite system, which includes the detailed interfaces such as bus voltage and data bus according to the related COMS requirements. And the BUS Electrical Interface Simulator introduces to use during the course of validating and accepting between the KA-Band payload and their EGSE. These interface design results are fully validated through the testing with the BEIS and is compliant with the satellite interface control interface requirements.

  • This paper presents the bus controller analysis of a power control unit of GEO satellite with 3kW power output. The sensing error of bus voltage produce control signal of the shunt switch assembly and the battery power converter, and the tolerance of error signal generated decide the stability of proposed system. The worst case analysis considered for the initial tolerance, temperature effect, tolerance of end of life is peformed to verify a designed bus controller. And also, the stability of system proposed according to moving of zero and pole values by some component failures is analyzed.

  • Star tracker placement configuration is proposed and the properness of the placement configuration is verified for star tracker's sun avoidance angle requirement. Precision attitude determination system is successfully designed using a gyro-star tracker inertial reference system for a candidate LEO spacecraft. Elaborate kalman filter formulation for a spacecraft is proposed for covariance analysis. The covariance analysis is performed to verify the capability of the proposed attitude determination system. The analysis results show that the attitude determination error and drift rate error are good enough to satisfy the mission of a candidate spacecraft.

  • The SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite has the advantage of implementing the imaging mission even though it is night time, cloudy weather, and all weather conditions, which is different from the satellite with the optical payload. This is the reason why the SAR satellite comes into the spotlight in the observation satellite field. The Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) has been developing the first Korean SAR satellite and is currently integrating and testing the Flight Model. For the launch vehicle service, KARI finalized the selection of the launch vehicle service provider and finished Critical Design Review (CDR) of the interface between the bus and the launch vehicle. KARI and launch vehicle service provider also finished the test of the telemetry interface between the bus and the launch vehicle. The test of the telemetry interface has the purpose of checking the interface of the telemetry which is the SOH(State-of-Health) of the satellite in an early launch stage. For this test, KARI has finished the development of the spacecraft simulator which is composed of the bus simulator to generate the analog telemetry and the launch vehicle simulator to gather the telemetry. In this research, the result of the hardware implementation and the software implementation for the spacecraft simulator were described. Finally the results of the launch vehicle telemetry MUX test which were performed at the launch vehicle provider's design office by using the spacecraft simulator were summarized. It is expected that this simulator will be used in the next test after the manufacture of the launch vehicle.

  • The Engineering Test Satellite VIII(ETS-VIII) of Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency(JAXA) uses a 20mN class xenon ion engine subsystem(IES) for North-South Station Keeping(NSSK). The IES was modified for a larger satellite with longer lifetime based on the former IES. ETS-VIII, a three-ton class geosynchronous satellite with 10 years bus lifetime, was launched 18 Dec. 2006 JST; it reached the planned orbit and all bus systems were checked out. The IES showed good results and is now under normal operation. The total accumulated operation time of the IES in orbit was about 2300 hours till $19^{th}$ Dec. 2007.

  • The purpose of this study was to present a conceptual design of the 6U micro-satellite system for optical image of 3 m GSD. An optical camera system with a payload of 3 m GSD image was designed and optimized. The optical system has a diameter of Ø78 mm, length 250 mm, and 1400 mm focal length. The requirement and constraints were configured for the 6U micro-satellite bus system with the payload. Satisfying the requirement and constraints, the subsystems of the 6U bus were designed such as attitude and orbit control, propulsion, command and data handling, electrical power, communication, structures and mechanisms, and thermal control subsystem. The mass budget, power budget, and communication link budget were also confirmed for the 6U micro-satellite comprising the optical payload and the subsystems of bus. To take optical images, a mission operation concept is proposed for the 6U micro-satellite in a low-Earth orbit. A constellation comprising many 6U micro-satellites studied in this paper, can provide with various data for reconnaissance and disaster tracking.
