Due to increasing frequency of yellow dust, not to mention high rate of precipitation and cloud formation in summer season of Korea, atmospheric correction of satellite remote sensing is necessary. This research analyzes the effect of atmospheric correction has on imagery classification by comparing DN distribution before and after atmospheric correction. The image used in the research is LANDSAT-5 TM. As for atmospheric correction module, commercial product ATCOR, FLAASH as well as COST model released on the internet, were used. The result of experiment shows that class separability increased in building areas.
Since Seasat SAR mission in 1978, SAR has become one of the most important surface imaging tools in satellite remote sensing SAR achieves high resolution by signal processing synthesizing a larger aperture. Therefore, SAR signal processing along with antenna technology has been centered upon SAR technologies. Thus interpreters of SAR imagery as well as those who involved in signal processing require the knowledge of the principal SAR processing algorithm. Although the conventional range-Doppler approach has been widely adopted by many SAR processors, azimuth compression including the range migration has been problematic. The recent development of the wavenumber domain approace is able to provide high precision SAR focusing algorithm. Compared with the wavenumber domain algorithm derived by applying Born (first) approximation, the transfer function of the conventional range-Doppler algorithm accounts only for the first order approximation of the exact transfer function. The results of a simulation and an actual test using airborne C-band SAR configuration demonstrate the dxcellent performance of the wavenumber domain algorithm.
The present study aims to derive and compare narrow and broad bandwidths of ocean color sensor’s algorithms for the study of monitoring highly dynamic coastal oceanic environmental parameters using high-resolution imagery acquired from Multi-spectral Camera (MSC) on KOMPSAT-2. These algorithms are derived based on a large data set of remote sensing reflectances ($R_{rs}$) generated by using numerical model that relates $b_b/(a + b_b)$ to $R_{rs}$ as functions of inherent optical properties, such as absorption and backscattering coefficients of six water components including water, phytoplankton (chl), dissolved organic matter (DOM), suspended sediment (SS) concentration, heterotropic organism (he) and an unknown component, possibly represented by bubbles or other particulates unrelated to the first five components. The modeled $R_{rs}$ spectra appear to be consistent with in-situ spectra collected from Korean waters. As Kompsat-2 MSC has similar spectral characteristics with Landsat-5 Thematic Mapper (TM), the model generated $R_{rs}$ values at 2 ㎚ interval are converted to the equivalent remote sensing reflectances at MSC and TM bands. The empirical relationships between the spectral ratios of modeled $R_{rs}$ and chlorophyll concentrations are established in order to derive algorithms for both TM and MSC. Similarly, algorithms are obtained by relating a single band reflectance (band 2) to the suspended sediment concentrations. These algorithms derived by taking into account the narrow and broad spectral bandwidths are compared and assessed. Findings suggest that there was less difference between the broad and narrow band relationships, and the determination coefficient $(r^2)$ for log-transformed data [ N = 500] was interestingly found to be $(r^2)$ = 0.90 for both TM and MSC. Similarly, the determination coefficient for log-transformed data [ N = 500] was 0.93 and 0.92 for TM and MSC respectively. The algorithms presented here are expected to make significant contribution to the enhanced understanding of coastal oceanic environmental parameters using Multi-spectral Camera.
Multitemporal analysis with remotely sensed data is complicated by numerous intervening factors, including atmospheric attenuation and occurrence of clouds that obscure the relationship between ground and satellite observed spectral measurements. Using an adaptive reconstruction system, dynamic compositing approach was developed to recover missing/bad observations. The reconstruction method incorporates temporal variation in physical properties of targets and anisotropic spatial optical properties into image processing. The adaptive system performs the dynamic compositing by obtaining a composite image as a weighted sum of the observed value and the value predicted according to local temporal trend. The proposed system was applied to the sequence of NDVI images of AVHRR observed on the Korean Peninsula from 1999 year to 2000 year. The experiment shows that the reconstructed series can be used as an estimated series with complete data for the observations including bad/missing values. Additionally, the gradient image, which represents the amount of temporal change at the corresponding time, was generated by the proposed system. It shows more clearly temporal variation than the data image series.
This paper reports a reliable GRD (Ground Resolved Distance) measurement method of using natural targets instead of the method using artificial targets. For this, we developed an edge profile extraction technique suitable for natural targets. We demonstrated the accuracy and stability of this technique firstly by comparing GRD values generated by this technique visually inspected GRD values for artificial targets taken in laboratory environments. We then demonstrated the feasibility of GRD estimation from natural targets by comparing GRD values from natural targets to those from artificial targets using satellite images containing both artificial and natural targets. The GRDs measured from the proposed method were similar to the values from visual inspection and the GRDs measured from the natural targets were similar to the values from artificial targets. These results support our proposed method is able to measure reliable GRD from natural targets.

공간상세화는 PRISM (Parameter-elevation Regressions on Independent Slopes Model)을 선정하여 수행하였다.
In high-resolution satellite image classification, when the color values of pixels belonging to one class are different, such as buildings with various colors, it is difficult to determine the color information representing the class. In this paper, to solve the problem of determining the representative color information of a class, we propose a method to divide the color channel of HSV (Hue Saturation Value) and perform object-based classification. To this end, after transforming the input image of the RGB color space into the components of the HSV color space, the Hue component is divided into subchannels at regular intervals. The minimum distance-based image classification is performed for each hue subchannel, and the classification result is combined with the image segmentation result. As a result of applying the proposed method to KOMPSAT-3A imagery, the overall accuracy was 84.97% and the kappa coefficient was 77.56%, and the classification accuracy was improved by more than 10% compared to a commercial software.

Thermal infrared images have the characteristic of being able to detect objects that can not be seen with the naked eye and have the advantage of easily obtaining information of inaccessible areas. However, TIR (Thermal InfraRed) images have a relatively low spatial resolution. In this study, the applicability of the pansharpening algorithm used for satellite imagery on images acquired by the UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) was tested. RGB image have higher spatial resolution than TIR images. In this study, pansharpening algorithm was applied to TIR image to create the images which have similar spatial resolution as RGB images and have temperature information in it. Experimental results show that the pansharpening algorithm using the PC1 band and the average of RGB band shows better results for the quantitative evaluation than the other bands, and it has been confirmed that pansharpening results by ATWT (${\grave{A}}$ Trous Wavelet Transform) exhibit superior spectral resolution and spatial resolution than those by HPF (High-Pass Filter) and SFIM (Smoothing Filter-based Intensity Modulation) pansharpening algorithm.
The importance of the classical theme of how the Top-of-Atmosphere (TOA) and Top-of-Canopy (TOC) reflectance of high-resolution satellite images match the actual atmospheric reflectance and surface reflectance has been emphasized. Based on the Radiometric Calibration Network (RadCalNet) BTCN and BSCN data, this study compared the accuracy of TOA and TOC reflectance products of the currently available optical satellites, including KOMPSAT-3, WorldView-2, and Pléiades-1A image sets calculated using the absolute atmospheric correction function of the Orfeo Toolbox (OTB) tool. The comparison experiment used data in 2018 and 2019, and the Landsat-8 image sets from the same period were applied together. The experiment results showed that the product of TOA and TOC reflectance obtained from the three sets of images were highly consistent with RadCalNet data. It implies that any imagery may be applied when high-resolution reflectance products are required for a certain application. Meanwhile, the processed results of the OTB tool and those by the Apparent Reflection method of another tool for WorldView-2 images were nearly identical. However, in some cases, the reflectance products of Landsat-8 images provided by USGS sometimes showed relatively low consistency than those computed by the OTB tool, with the reference of RadCalNet BTCN and BSCN data. Continuous experiments on active vegetation areas in addition to the RadCalNet sites are necessary to obtain generalized results.

이에 본 연구에서는 미국항공우주국 (National Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA) 제트 추진 연구소 (Jet Propulsion Laboratory, JPL)의 The ECOsystem Spaceborne Thermal Radiometer Experiment on Space Station (ECOSTRESS)에서 제공하는 위성영상 중 증발산량 데이터를 구축하였다.
