The objective of this study was to develop remedies to improve sanitary quality of school meals. To analyze the usage of potentially hazardous foods, menus from 180 school foodservice establishments were collected through school websites. Statistical analyses were conducted using the SPSS package program (ver. 20.0). The results of this study are as follows: analysis of the foodservice production process revealed that the following were employed: heating process (70.5%), non-heating process (16.3%), and after-heating process (13.2%). In addition, the cooking methods used for side dishes were: stir-frying (22.1%), saengchae (21.3%), sukchae (15.2%), jorim (12.4%), deep-frying (10.2%), and grilling (9.5%). Overall, 64 menu items known to pose potential microbiological hazards were offered a total of 2,671 times. The usage frequency was high for bibimbap, pork-bulgogi, cucumber-saenchae, seasoned bean sprouts namul, seasoned spinach-namul, and korean cabbage-geotjeori. In conclusion, in order to increase the sanitary quality of school meals, menus or foods that contain microbiological hazards should prepared very carefully with respect to time and temperature management during food production. Also, school foodservice employees must possess proper food safety knowledge and techniques for applying the HACCP system to prevent foodborne illness.
Rapid economic development and increase of energy consumption in east Asia including China, Korea and Japan has arisen a concern in air pollution problems in local and regional scale. Specially, China is accomplishing a success in continuous economic growth, while increasing energy consumption has caused a load to air quality because major energy source is coal which is relatively unfavorable in terms of air pollution. In this article, discussions have been given with the purpose of gaining some insight into the situation of air pollutant sources, air quality in China and transboundary transport of air pollutants in this area. Very limited information has caused insufficient survey, however, regional cooperation in environmental conservation may hopefully improve the air quality in this area.

To investigate the epilithic diatom community and water quality of the Osan stream, water samples were collected from the eight stations from April to September 2003. Sampling was two times before and after heavy rain. Total 52 diatom were identified and divided into 12 saproxenosus taxa, 6 saprophilous taxa and 34 indifferent taxa, respectively. The DAIpo values higher after heavy rain than before that. According to tolerance degree to the organic water pollution, all sampling stations ranged from $\alpha$-oligosaprobic to $\alpha$-mesosaprobic. Thus, the result indicates that the water quality of Osan stream is gradually improved by heavy rain.
Recently water demand is increasing as the industry prospers. The increase of water demand is followed by the increase of wastewater discharge which pollutes rivers and ground water extensively. These rivers, reservoirs and ground water are sources for drinking water and their contamination affects the quality of water supply and other potable water. In Korea there are 776 water treatment plants which supply drinking water from main rivers or reservoirs. Rivers are the biggest water source for drinking water is being contaminated, the innovation of treatment process is needed. The construction and operation of water supply facilities is under the control of the Ministry of Construction and the water supply offices of cities and provinces. However, drinking water quality is under the control of the bureau of sanitation in the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs. There are 33 items in drinking water quality standards of Korea. Trihalomethanes, Selenium, Diazinone and other three of pesticides have been included lately, The Ministry of Health and Social Affairs is planning to enhance. the level of $VOC_S$(Vola-tile Organic Compounds) standard. Drinking water quality standard is the goal to protect the quality of supply water and ground water. In order to protect the source water from domestic or industrial water, technological improvement and adequate investment should be urgently made. The ultimate goal of drinking water quality is safety and health of consumers. The more stringent the standard are, the better the water quality will be. As the drinking water quality standards become more stringent this year, various and positive solutions by the authorities concerned must be prepared.
In order to establish water quality management planning in some watershed, water quality of the future of the watershed should be predicted first. The Yongsan river various pollutant sources ; sewage, industry, livestock, farming and so on. And pollutants from these sources are likely to increase even though a number of publicly owned treatment works(POTWs) are founded. Therefore, it is estimated that water quality if the river would be even worse than now in near future. In this study, water quality of the future(2001, 2006) on the Yongsan river was simulated with QUAL2E model. Concentration of three water quality parameters(BOD, T-N, T-P) was predicted according to dry season, low flow season, average flow season of the river with and without POTWs. The results of this study showed the significant contrast in concentration between with and without POTWs, specially in terms of T-N and T-P. Therefore, POTWs must be founded around the Yongsan river and more advanced treatment should be considered. And because these parameters are mostly affected by polluants from upper watershed, including Kwangiudcheon, water quality management planning on the Yongsan river might be focused on this area.
To investigate environmental impacts of inland fish- farms on the water quality of a stream, environmental parameters including physical, chemical and biological factorswere estimated at trount- farm in 1994. Influences( F-1) were polluted as passing through fish tank( F-2) and settle pond( F-3), so organic and inorganic nutrient concentrations became very high in effluents( F-4). BOD$_{5}$, Chl. a, Nitrite and heterotrophic bacterial numbers in the junction site(5-2) of F-4 and S-1( upstream) were highest among the stream sites. BOD$_{5}$ was proved to a good parameter of organic pollution, and nitrite of Inorganic nutrients in the fishery and it's affected stream, The high concentration of BOD$_{5}$ and Chl. a in S-2 were decreased in downstream(5-3, 5-4). It seems that this results are due to dilution or sedimentation effect. This supposition requires further testing about the sediment of stream. The results of this paper demonstrate that fish farming can deteriorate water quality of a stream by changing environmental factors.
The purpose of this study on environmental investigation in Hongsung and Kwangchun streams is for the finding the degree of water quality. Physicochemical characteristics of streams are very important. However, that has not been investigated so for especially in stream of Hongsung area, And so, we tried to analyse BOD, TDS, $Cl^{-}$, anionic surfactant, pH, T-N and T-P of stream. The results were as follows. The pH for stream were generally in the range of 6.9 ~ 8.1 which is water quality for stander for stream, water quality of the Hongsung and Kwangchun upstream was not in problem but downstream showed somewhat high concentration in BOD, chlorine ion, T-P, T-N, and anionic surfactants. Especially BOD of Kwangchun downstream was higher than Hongsung downstream and concentration of T-P of Hongsung downstream was kept over 7 mg/liter regardless of inflow BOD ranging from 1.3 to 1.8 mg/liter.
The purpose of this study is to construct e-Nonsan, a user friendly river quality management information system for Nonsan-si basin using GIS (geographical information system) technology. GIS was ideally suited featuring a geographical characteristics(e.g., industries, cattle sheds) and very effectively used in mapping and symbolization for the distribution of the spatial/periodic status(e.g., pie or column chart) of the point/non-point pollutant source loads which can be effectively applied to a information system on the web-site. And a user interface, GUI(graphic user interface) was designed very diversely and simply enabled the and non environmental experts connect with the system and obtain a useful information of river quality. e-Nonsan, a visual mapping system for river quality was developed by reframing the monitoring data as graphic symbols and it was ideally suited to exploring area-wide river quality at a user-friendly manner due to extensibility and scalability along the various survey points. Eventually the final step of this study was to construct e-Nonsan based on Web-GIS could be assessed anywhere if internet service is available and offer a very useful information services of the river quality to the publics.

The underground living spaces have become one of the major environment of this decade in urban area. This study was carried out to examine contamination level for purpose of preservation of the pleasant underground environment. Three subway stations and three underground shopping centers in Seoul and two underground shopping centers in Busan were selected and surveyed by measuring gaseous pollutants $(SO_2,\; NO_2,\;CO,\;HC,\; HCHO,\;CO_2)$, dust, airborne microbes, and the other air condtions (temperature, humidity, air pressure, air flow, kata cooling power). These examined data were compared with four kinds of standard (building sanitation management, room air quality standards, occupational safety and health standards, ventilation equipment) as environmental hygiene.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between sanitary knowledge score and sanitary management performance among school foodservice employees. For this purpose, a paper-based questionnaire was developed and distributed to 300 school foodservice employees in Jinhae-gu, Changwon from May 13 to June 10 in 2009. A total of 276 responses were received and analyzed. The results of this study were as follows. The sanitary knowledge score of school foodservice employees was 16.60 (total score: 20). Their sanitary management performance level was 4.77 (based on a 5-point Likert scale). We found that sanitary management performance level of high sanitary knowledge score group was significantly higher than that of low sanitary knowledge score group (P<0.001). There was a significant positive correlation between sanitary knowledge score and sanitary management performance of school foodservice employees (P<0.01). Regression analysis showed that sanitary knowledge score of school foodservice employees had a positive effect on sanitary management performance (P<0.001). It implies that as school foodservice employees' sanitary knowledge increased, their sanitary management performance increased. In conclusion, to improve the sanitary quality of school foodservice, school foodservice employees' sanitary management performance level should be increased by improving their sanitary knowledge. So, a systematic and consistent sanitary education program should be conducted for school foodservice employees.
