  • The development of natural food preservatives instead of chemical synthetic food preservatives is world wide inte-rest. Authors already investigated that cinnamon bark extract revealed antimicrobial activity against general spoilage microorganisms of food especially its acitivity was stronger against molds than against bacteria. In this paper, authors examined the mirobial flora from the spoiled fish meat paste products and also checked the possibility of cinnamon bark extract food preservative for prolong the shelf life of the fish paste product and breads. The predominat bacteria was Bacillus sp. as about 98% of the total microorganisms isolated from unpacked or packed spoiled fish meat paste products. While molds and yeast are not detected from the vacuum packed products. The MIC(minimum inhibitory concentration) of cinnamon bark extract against the isolated spoilage bacteria and molds was 160~640$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ and 40~80$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$, respectively. When the diluted cinnamon bark extract (the extract : ethanol=1 : 3) was sprayed on the surface of fried fish meat paste product, molds growth was delayed by 2 days at room temperature. The shelf lifes of sandwich and glutinousrice bread which surface sprayed with the diluted extract(1 : 1) was extended by 5 and 7 days, respectively.

  • Commercial food products from major cities of Coahuila, Mexico were screened to identify residues of transgenic deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and/or proteins. After performed, an inventory on all products that contained a soybean-based ingredient in a commercial grocery store in the city of Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, 245 food products were identified and grouped in 15 classes according to the soybean ingredient as well as the manufacturing process used for their elaboration. Similar sampling was made for the different food classes in the cities of Monclova, Piedras Negras, and Torreon. A total of 88 samples were analyzed and DNA was extracted by the hexadecyltrimethyl-ammonium bromide (CTAB) technique with slight modification to obtain better DNA quality (1). In addition, segments of the transgenic genes one that codifies for 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (epsps), cry 1A, and the cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) promoter were amplified using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The transgenic proteins 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (CP4 EPSPS) and insecticidal crystal protein (Cry 1Ab/Ac) were identified using double antibody sandwich-enzymatic linked immunoassay analysis (DAS-ELISA). Presence of transgenic genes and/or proteins was identified in 35.3% of the commercial products samples.

  • We investigated changes of immunoglobulin G (IgG) concentrations by heating and drying condition. Also it is performed to group for commercial product by promoting of IgG preservation and reducing of protein denaturation. The result was that content of IgG in colostrum was higher than normal milk. Especially, IgG content of colostrum within 12 hrs after parturition was over 44.67mg/ml and it is 60 times of normal milk. IgG contents was reduced rapidly according as passage of the time. IgG content of the sample heating at 30min at 65$^{\circ}C$ was still a little higher that heating for 10sec at 72$^{\circ}C$. IgG denaturation of heat treatment at 100$^{\circ}C$ for 10sec was lower than at 85$^{\circ}C$ for 30min. We investigated the changes of IgG concentrations of kinds of market milk different with heating processing. This result showed that IgG denaturation ratio by ultra high temperature pasteurization (UHT) was higher than long time low temperature pasteurization (LTLT). On the other hands, IgG content by spray drying was 14.5mg/g and freezing drying was 10.8mg/g. It showed that denaturation of protein content by freezing drying was more than spray drying.

  • During the spring season of 2014, a total of 148 melon and watermelon leaf samples were collected from symptomatic and asymptomatic plants in the western and southwestern regions of Saudi Arabia and were tested for the presence of Watermelon chlorotic stunt virus (WmCSV) and other suspected cucurbit viruses by double antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Ninety-eight samples were found to be positive for the presence of WmCSV, nine samples were positive for the presence of Cucurbit yellow stunting disorder virus (CYSDV), and 22 showed a mixed infection with both WmCSV and CYSDV. No other cucurbit viruses were detected in any of the samples. Host range experiments revealed that eight out of fourteen tested plant species were susceptible to WmCSV. PCR products of approximately 1.2 kb were obtained after amplification using primers specifically targeting the coat protein region of WmCSV. Positive PCR results were confirmed by dot blot hybridization. Coat protein gene sequences from eleven WmCSV isolates indicated that the highest identity was between the 104WMA-SA isolate from the Wadi Baish location and a previously reported isolate from the AL-Lith location in Saudi Arabia. The lowest identity was observed between the 42WMA-SA isolate and an isolate from Palestine.
