The purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the workability, compressive and flexural strength properties of rapid-set concrete with various mixture. The kinds of fine aggregate(river sand, sea sand, crushed sand), water-cement ratio(40%, 45%, 50%), sand-aggrega to ratio(33%, 36%, 39%) were chosen as the experimental parameters. Test variables are temperature of concrete, slump, air contents, compressive and flexural strength. The compressive and flexural strength for 3 hours and 6 hours were tested. As result, it was shown that temperature of concrete involved 45$^{\circ}C$, some time later decreased. The workability were decreasing in steps as the sand-aggregate ratio increased and crushed sand was the highest value. Higher compressive and flexural strength was shown following the order of river sand, sea sand, crushed sand regardless of sand-aggregate ratio. But the values of gap was just a little.
In this study, the effect of very fine sand on drying shrinkage cracking of concrete was experimentally evaluated. As a result of the study, the time-to-cracking of concrete used very fine sand was shorter than plain concrete. Also, the stress rate of concrete used very fine sand was higher than plain concrete. It was due to the increase of water content when very fine sand was used in concrete. In conclusion, the use of very fine sand can lead the increase of water content to meet the target slump and higher potential of cracking of concrete.
The waste foundry sand might be recycled in concrete, resulting in energy saving and environmental protection. An half Factorial Exprements were performed with the variables of W/C ratio, S/A, Sand/Waste foundry sand ratio and Slump as a preliminary study for optimum mix design of concrete. The results show that the W/C ratio is the most important factor to the concrete strength. The substitute of waste foundry sand up to 30% has little influence, saying that it can substitute the fine aggregate without damaging the concrete properties.
This paper investigates the influence of fine aggregates on bleeding of concrete. According to test results, as water content decreases, crushed sand content increases, fluidity shows decline tendency. As for aggregates kinds, concrete using sea sand shows most fluidity loss among the tested results. Compressive strength gains highly when crushed sand is used. As for bleeding of concrete, bleeding shows decline tendency because of increasing in powder content and filling effect of voids. Bleeding amount is in a decreasing order of magnitude for concretes made with the following aggregates: sea sand, river sand, and crushed sand. Accordingly, crushed sand mixed with river sand and sea sand with certain proportion enable to reduce bleeding and enhance strength.
The results of an experimental study on the mechanical properties of concrete utilizing crushed sand for construction materials are persented in this paper. As the results show, the workability, compressive strength and drying shrinkage were improved by propeer contents of replaced crushed sand. And the workability, compressive strength and drying shinkage were decreased by increasing very fine sand. Also, the suitable weight contents of replacing ratio of crushed sand in concrete using crushed sand were in range of about 30%. And the use of crushed sand containing very fine sand under the permitted limit by regulated KS F 2558 has not very much problems in concrete.
Recently, according to increase use of concrete which is the main material of construction, the natural aggregate of good quality is more and more decreased. Most of all, among the concrete materials, the development of alternation materials of sand is urgently needed. In this study, investigating the production equipment and the sample of crushed sand company and analyzing properties of sand, manufactured mortar by the KS to use crushed sand as the fine aggregate of concrete material. The experiment result is as follows. 1. The density, an absorptivity, and the amount of 0.08mm passage ratio of crushed sand, and the mortar used crushed sand satisfied KS. The mechanical results is similar to sea sand. 2. The crushed sand which used impact crusher instead of cone crusher for 3rd or 4th crusher was similar properties to sea sand, so it is judged that impact crusher has high effect of particle shape improvement of crushed sand.
The objective of in this study makes investigation into the characteristics of antiwashout underwater concrete as to mix proportion, casting and curing water through experimental researches. in this study, sea sand is blended with river sand, crushed sand is blended with river sand and sea sand as to investigate the quality change and characteristics of antiwashout underwater concrete with variation of blend ratio of sea sand and crushed sand(0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100%). Higher compressive strength is measured following the order of river sand, sea sand, crushed sand regardless of age and casting condition. Except for case of using river sand, blended ratio of 40% is appeared on most compressive strength.
The objective of this study is to investigate the bond strength properties of antiwashout underwater concrete. The arrangement of bars (vertical bar, horizontal upper bar, horizontal lower bar), condition of casting and curing (fresh water, sea water), type of fine aggregate (river sand, blended sand(river sand : sea sand = 1:1), and proportioning strength of concrete (210, 240, 270, 300, 330kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$)are chosen as the experimental parameters. The test results(ultimate bond stress) are compared with bond and development provisions of the ACI Building Code(ACI 318-89) and proposed equations from previous research(which was proposed by Orangun et. al). The experimental results show that ultimate bond stress of antiwashout underwater concrete which arranged bar on the horizontal lower, used the blend sand, and was cast and cured in the fresh water are higher that other conditions. The ultimate bond stress were increased in proportion to {{{{( SQRT {fcu }) }}3 2. From this study, rational analytic formula for the ultimate bond stress are to be from compressive strength of concrete.
The principal objective of this study is to deepen the characterization studies already led on sand concretes in previous works. Indeed, it consists in studying the effect of the sand type on the main properties of sand concrete: fracture and mechanical properties. We particularly insist on the determination of the fracture characteristics of this material which apparently have not been studied. To carry out this study, four different types of sand have been used: dune sand (DS), river sand (RS), crushed sand (CS) and river-dune sand (RDS). These sands differ in mineralogical nature, grain shape, angularity, particle size, proportion of fine elements, etc. The obtained results show that the particle size distribution of sand has marked its influence in all the studied properties of sand concrete since the sand having the highest diameter and the best particle size distribution has given the best fracture and mechanical properties. The grain shape, the angularity and the nature of sand have also marked their influence: thanks to its angularity and its limestone nature, crushed sand yielded good results compared to river and dune sands which are characterized by rounded shape and siliceous nature. Finally, it should further be noted that the sand concrete presents values of fracture and mechanical properties slightly lower than those of ordinary concrete. Compared to mortar, although the mechanical strength is lower, the fracture parameters are almost comparable. In all cases, the sand grains are debonded from the paste cement during the fracture which means that the crack goes through the paste-aggregate interface.
In this study, crushed sand is blended with river sand and sea sand, to investigate the quality change of antiwashout underwater concrete with variation of blend ratio of crushed sand(0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100%). To see experiment conclusion, the more blend ratio of crushed sand increases, the more unit weight increases. Because the for that specific gravity of crushed sand is higher comparatively than that of river sand and sea sand. Higher compressive strength is measured following the order of river sand, crushed sand, sea sand regardless of age and casting-curing condition. Except for case of using river sand, blend ratio of 40% is appeared on most compressive strength. So the optimum blend ratio of crushed sand is 40% from the view point of compressive strength.
