Dynamic displacement response of civil structures is an important index for in-construction and in-service structural condition assessment. However, accurately measuring the displacement of large-scale civil structures such as high-rise buildings still remains as a challenging task. In order to cope with this problem, a vision-based system with the use of industrial digital camera and image processing has been developed for long-distance, remote, and real-time monitoring of dynamic displacement of supertall structures. Instead of acquiring image signals, the proposed system traces only the coordinates of the target points, therefore enabling real-time monitoring and display of displacement responses in a relatively high sampling rate. This study addresses the in-situ experimental verification of the developed vision-based system on the Canton Tower of 600 m high. To facilitate the verification, a GPS system is used to calibrate/verify the structural displacement responses measured by the vision-based system. Meanwhile, an accelerometer deployed in the vicinity of the target point also provides frequency-domain information for comparison. Special attention has been given on understanding the influence of the surrounding light on the monitoring results. For this purpose, the experimental tests are conducted in daytime and nighttime through placing the vision-based system outside the tower (in a brilliant environment) and inside the tower (in a dark environment), respectively. The results indicate that the displacement response time histories monitored by the vision-based system not only match well with those acquired by the GPS receiver, but also have higher fidelity and are less noise-corrupted. In addition, the low-order modal frequencies of the building identified with use of the data obtained from the vision-based system are all in good agreement with those obtained from the accelerometer, the GPS receiver and an elaborate finite element model. Especially, the vision-based system placed at the bottom of the enclosed elevator shaft offers better monitoring data compared with the system placed outside the tower. Based on a wavelet filtering technique, the displacement response time histories obtained by the vision-based system are easily decomposed into two parts: a quasi-static ingredient primarily resulting from temperature variation and a dynamic component mainly caused by fluctuating wind load.

Forest damage is a worldwide issue and specially, a forest fire involves damage to itself and causes secondary damage such as a flood etc. However, actually, clear analysis on forest fire damage can be hardly conducted due to difficulty in approaching a forest fire and quite a long period of time for analysis. To overcome such difficulty, recently, forest fire damage has been actively investigated with satellite image data, but it is also difficult to obtain satellite image data fitted to the time a forest fire occurred. In addition, it is burdensome to verify accuracy of the obtained image. Therefore, this study was attempted to look into the damaged districts from forest fires by reference to spectroradiometric characteristics of the obtained vegetation with a spectroradiometer as preliminary work to use satellite image data. To begin with, the researcher analyzed the field survey data each measured 3 months and 6 months after occurrence of a forest fire by judging the extent of the damage through visual observation and using a spectroradiometer in order to investigate any potential errors arising out of one-time visual observation. Besides, in this study, groups showing possibilities that trees might be restored to life and wither to death could be classified on the sampling points where forest fire damage is minor.
To study the evaluation standard and control limit of mortar filling layer void length, in this paper, the train sub-model was developed by MATLAB and the track-bridge sub-model considering the mortar filling layer void was established by ANSYS. The two sub-models were assembled into a train-track-bridge coupling dynamic model through the wheel-rail contact relationship, and the validity was corroborated by the coupling dynamic model with the literature model. Considering the randomness of fastening stiffness, mortar elastic modulus, length of mortar filling layer void, and pier settlement, the test points were designed by the Box-Behnken method based on Design-Expert software. The coupled dynamic model was calculated, and the support vector regression (SVR) nonlinear mapping model of the wheel-rail system was established. The learning, prediction, and verification were carried out. Finally, the reliable probability of the amplification coefficient distribution of the response index of the train and structure in different ranges was obtained based on the SVR nonlinear mapping model and Latin hypercube sampling method. The limit of the length of the mortar filling layer void was, thus, obtained. The results show that the SVR nonlinear mapping model developed in this paper has a high fitting accuracy of 0.993, and the computational efficiency is significantly improved by 99.86%. It can be used to calculate the dynamic response of the wheel-rail system. The length of the mortar filling layer void significantly affects the wheel-rail vertical force, wheel weight load reduction ratio, rail vertical displacement, and track plate vertical displacement. The dynamic response of the track structure has a more significant effect on the limit value of the length of the mortar filling layer void than the dynamic response of the vehicle, and the rail vertical displacement is the most obvious. At 250 km/h - 350 km/h train running speed, the limit values of grade I, II, and III of the lengths of the mortar filling layer void are 3.932 m, 4.337 m, and 4.766 m, respectively. The results can provide some reference for the long-term service performance reliability of the ballastless track-bridge system of HRS.
The purpose of this study is to explore effective factors of elderly people's overall death anxiety and sub-dimensions of death anxiety. The subjects were 156 elderly people in S City, Gyeonggi-Do gathered by convenience sampling. This study collected data by interviewing the elderly who agreed to participate in the study and then analyzed it using SPSS 12.0 through descriptive statistics, the t-test, F-test, Sheffe-test, correlation analysis, and multiple regression. The respondents' overall death anxiety score was 2.61(±.47), and 'anxiety in the dying process'(2.94) had the highest points among sub-dimensions. Effective factors of overall level of death anxiety among the elderly were 'age' (β=-.18, p=.015), 'education' (β=-.16, p=.045), and 'economic status' (β=-.26, p=.003). In sub-dimensions, the elderly who were female, relatively young, and had low economic status showed high 'anxiety in the dying process'. As for 'anxiety over what will happen after one's death', the elderly who were relatively young, and had low economic status had high scores. Finally, on 'the loss of existence', the elderly who had poor relationships with their families had high scores.
The purpose of this study is to identify the Nutrition Quotient for Elderly(NQ-E) of the elderly living in the community and to investigate the characteristics of living conditions affecting the nutritional status of the elderly. The subjects of the survey were 1,970 elderly single elderly households aged 65 and over in the nationwide through convenience sampling method. A survey cooperative system was established with Comprehensive Support Center for Elderly Living Alone, and the 25 social welfare institutions. 385 Life Managers for Elderly Living Alone participated as a survey agent. As a result, NQ-E was 51.14 points, which is the lowest level in the NQ-E, and the explanatory power was 20.1% in multiple regression analysis. Significant variables were age, sex, subjective health status, low number of medication, non-smoker, non-alcoholic, satisfactory economic status, academic status, and the interaction with family and neighbors. Based on this result, this study explains that comprehensive measures of nutritional management for the elderly living alone needs to be sought.

Grain filling traits of rice were traced to determine the critical temperature that ceased grain filling process, from the late transplanted temperate rice varieties in the field conditions of2020 and 2021. The tested three varieties were transplanted six times with four target heading dates of 20 Aug. (control), 10 Sep., 20 Sep. and 30 Sep. Nine times of sampling were made from a week after heading with three replicates for each treatment. Development of grain filling percentage, grain dry weight and milled rice weight demonstrated sigmoid curves in the first and second transplants of 2020, and in the first to third transplants of 2021. The three grain filling traits in the 2020 third transplants and in the 2021 fourth transplants initially increased with the progress of grain development, and reached the peaks at certain time points, then decreased thereafter. Non-linear regression analyses, performed for the traits in the transplants that showed sigmoid curves except control, indicated that 95% of the final data (95% FD) was attained when the seven-day moving temperature (Sd-MovT) was 8.4-9.6℃, which excluded the cases when the temperature before the dates of 95% FD was lower than that on the dates of 95% FD. Sd-MovT on the date of peak data was 8.5-9.8℃ in the 2020 third transplants and 6.9-8.3℃ in the 2021 fourth transplants. Grain development was observed when seven-day mean temperature (Sd-MT) from 35 to 41 days after heading date was 9.4-10.8℃ in the 2020 third transplants and 10.1-11.9℃ in the 2021 fourth transplants. But Sd-MT of 8.7-9.1℃ in 2020 and 6.9-7.6℃ in 2021, at 42-48 days after heading, resulted in no progress of grain development. Overall, Sd-MovT at the point of stagnated grain development appeared in the range of 6.9-9.8℃. The lowest Sd-MT that showed the progress of grain development was 9.4-9.5℃ and the highest Sd-MT that showed no grain development was 9.1℃, both of which appeared in Odae and Haiami of the 2020 third transplants Therefore it is concluded that critical temperature for the grain development of temperate rice in natural conditions exists between 9.1℃ and 9.5℃.
The pollution status of heavy metals in the soils of children's playground was investigated for a sustainable soil environment in urban parks of Seoul. As sampling sites, 281 locations were selected from a 7 districts in the Seoul city. The overall mean concentrations of the heavy metals (Cd 0.21 mg/kg, Cu 5.97 mg/kg, As 2.40 mg/kg, Pb 7.55 mg/kg, Zn 34.08 mg/kg, Ni 4.22 mg/kg, Hg 0.02 mg/kg and Cr6+ not detected.) in the soils of the palygrounds were lower than the worrisome level in criteria for area 1 in Korea soil environment conservation act. In addition, when the soil pollution grade (SPC) was evaluated as an average value, it was found to be less than 100, the first grade, at all points in the seven autonomous districts, indicating thatthe soil was in good soil condition. However, when evaluated as the maximum value, some of the five districts showed values of 100 or more. Therefore, it was found that continuous management and interest of the local government, which is the management body of children's playgrounds, is necessary for a safe soil environment.

Background: In this study, we investigate the rapid increase in environmental odors and notable rise in civil complaints near Dorim Stream in the Gwanak-gu area of Seoul. Objectives: This study aims to identify the causal compounds responsible for environmental odors in the Dorim Stream and investigate the structural characteristics of the stream that influence odor generation. Methods: The research methodology involved setting up 41 sampling points, selecting panels for direct sensory evaluation to assess odor intensity, measuring dissolved oxygen and hydrogen sulfide concentrations, and using all-in-one low-temperature desorption gas chromatography (ATD-GC) and thermal desorption-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (TD-GC/MS) analysis to identify odor-causing compounds. Results: The evaluation of Dorim Stream revealed that in areas with complete meandering, there were lower dissolved oxygen levels (4.5±2.67 mg/L) and higher odor intensity (4.0±0.92), while in partially meandering sections, higher dissolved oxygen levels (7.8±1.15 mg/L) and lower odor intensity (2.8±1.06) were observed. Hydrogen sulfide levels measured with sensors increased with higher temperatures, especially in the afternoon hours (12:00~14:00). Acetaldehyde was the dominant odor compound detected in both the Bonglim Bridge (0.4 ppm) area and Guro Bridge area (0.867 ppm), with concentrations more than twice as high near Guro Bridge. Odor-causing compounds identified by TD-GC/MS indicated a pungent, sulfurous odor in the Guro Bridge area and a musty odor in the Bonglim Bridge area. Conclusions: This study categorizes and analyzes the sources of odor in Dorim Stream in Seoul based on meandering patterns and the distribution of sewage facilities, highlighting the potential odor issues associated with combined sewage systems and sewer junctions and suggesting policy improvements.
This study was conducted to examine chemical characteristics and correlations among seepage water, subsurface waters and inland groundwater in and around a coastal underground LPG cavern using factor and cluster analyses. The study area is located in western coast of Incheon metropolitan city and is about 8 km off the coast. The LPG cavern storing propane and butane was built beneath artificially reclaimed island. Mean bathymetry is 8.5 m and maximum sea level change is 10 m. Water sampling was conducted in May and August, 2006 from 22 sampling points. Correlation analysis showed strong correlations among $Fe^{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$ (r=0.83~0.99), and Na and Cl (r=0.70~0.97), which indicated reductive dissolution of iron and manganese bearing minerals and seawater ingression effect, respectively. According to factor analysis, Factors 1 (May) and I (August) showed high loadings for parameters representing seawater ingression into the cavern and effect of submarine groundwater discharge, respectively while Factors 2 and IV showed high loadings for those representing oxidation condition (DO and ORP). Factors 4 and II have large positive loadings for $Fe^{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$. The increase of $Fe^{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$ was related to decomposition of organic matter and subsequent their dissolution under reduced condition. Cluster analysis showed the resulting 6 groups for May and 5 groups for August, which mainly included groups of inland groundwater, cavern seepage water, sea water and subsurface water in the LPG storage cavern. Subsurface water (Group 2 and Group III) around the underground storage cavern showed high EC and major ions contents, which represents the seawater effect. Cavern seepage water (Group 5 and Group II) showed a reduced condition (low DO and negative ORP) and higher levels of $Fe^{2+}$ and $Mn^{2+}$.

This study was carried out to understand the stand structure based on the compositional characteristics of natural deciduous forest dominated by Quercus species, which will provide with fundamental ecological and silvicultural information for effective forest management. Of two tracts selected from the Seoul National University Research Forests, one is located in Kwangju-Gun Kyunggi-Do, and the other in Kwangyang-Gun Chollanam-Do. Point-quarter sampling method w-as employed to survey woody vegetation confined to larger than 6cm in DBH. The numbers of sample points were 152 and 187, in Kwangju-Gun and Kwangyang-Gun, respectively. Comparative analysis for two forest tracts was made as follows ; 1) species composition by calculation of importance values ; 2) number of stems per hectare for major tree species ; 3) species diversity for the forests in two locations ; 4) inter-species association based on $X^2$ test. The relative dominate of Quercus speices showed 88% at Kwangju-Gun, Kyunggi-Do and 50% at Kwangy-ang-Gun. Chollanam-Do. Such high dominance occurred due to high importance values of Quercus variahilis and Q. mortgolica in both locations. Quercus serrata showed low value at Kwangju-Gun. Kyunggi-Do whereas Q. acutissirna, Q. dentata and Q. aliena did none at Kwangyang-Gun. Chollanam-Do. The species diversity and evenness in oak communities exhibited 0.82 and 0.61, respectively at Kwangju-Gun. Kyunggi-Do, while those did 1.09 and 0.73 at Kwangyang-Gun, Chollanam-Do. Therefore, it was considered that Ku-angju-Gun region was disturbed severely by human activities but Kwangyang-Gun region eras less disturbed. Frequent appearance of Carpinus and Acer species indicates increase in diversities and better development of succession at Kwangyang-Gun region.
