  • This study was investigated a possibility of fault of glass insulator due to vibration on high-speed railway. The proper vibration of 1-glass insulator have many frequency band and high amplitude showed in high frequency than low frequency. The proper vibration of strut tube insulator was lowest 170Hz, highest 1.5kHz. The field signal amplitude of viaduct and open route were biggest moment pantograph of high-speed rail. The surface vibration(V3) amplitude of strut tube insulator was biggest. From the FFT analysis of viaduct and open route, the strut tube insulator effect by vertical vibration was big, the frequency was 82.5Hz and 105Hz, respectively. However, in comparison with the proper vibration of strut tube insulator, the resonance was not observed. Although the amplitude of insulator is high, the possibility of fault is low because the glass insulator deterioration by the accumulation of vibration do not happen.

  • In recent years, a number of metal machine parts, in the field of the car manufactures and electronic goods for home, have been replaced by nylon-6 in order to weight, cost, and a period of process of manufacture. It's because nylon-6 materials as an industrial material have higher economical and productive advantage than the metalic ones. However, in domestic injection manufactures, there are few data on fiber glass synthetic on nylon-6. It is said that plastic in process of manufacture using the same injection materials make their results different in large scale according to fiber glass synthetic rate conditions. In this study, we have studied effects of the glass fiber synthetic rate on the characteristics of fatigue failure for nylon-6.

  • The purpose of this study is to distinguish the causes of broken glass on doors or windows when it is originally kept among the remains on the floor in fire site - whether it was broken due to heating or outer power-through test and characteristics of the broken plane including the pattern on the plane. Addition to it, the study tries to find characteristics to judge the point and direction of breakdown through the analysis of glass broken by outer power. With two assumed causes - a) breakdown due to heating and b) breakdown due to outer power-3 pieces of glass plates ($30cm{\times}30cm{\times}5mm$) were tested for each case, getting the results as following: First, for the glass broken due to the change of temperature, the broken plane is of slow and smooth curve without any pattern. Second, for the glass broken due to outer power, with the impact point as the center, the glass shows breakdown of radial type and the side shows breakdown of near-perpendicular type. The far the broken piece is from the impact point, the bigger the size is. The broken piece at the impact point is of long triangle type and the two long planes of the triangle shows semi-arc with the center of breakdown point and the other plane shows opposite pattern. Third, when glass that is damaged by outer power is heated, damaged forms and side patterns of the glass that is damaged by outer power are heated and disappeared.

  • Background: The production of glass beads in Ghana is greatly impacted by the ingenuity of Ghanaian women. Preliminary investigations revealed the lack of interest on the part of women due to poor working conditions as a result of the influence of culture-specific silence. Therefore, the study investigated the poor working conditions faced by these industrious women with the ultimate goal of suggesting ways they can be empowered. Methods: A phenomenological study was conducted in two indigenous glass bead communities in Ghana. Data were solicited via direct observations, personal interviews and focus group discussions. Twenty-six purposively sampled respondents were recruited for the study. Data from the study were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Results: The results confirmed that the elderly women glass bead makers are much influenced by the Ghanaian culture of silence. This prevents the women from speaking about the challenges they are facing in their work. Also, the women are silenced because of the fear of losing their jobs as well as the reluctance of their male managers to remedy the challenges they encounter in the course of work. This has resulted in poor remuneration, lack of insurance packages for workers, certification, and absence of personal protective tools for the women. Conclusion: The study tasks the government of Ghana, the Legal Advocacy for Women in Africa (LAWA), the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission in Ghana, the Ghana Trade Union as well as the Local Government Workers' Union to empower the women to sustain the glass bead industry in Ghana.

  • The oocyst wall is severed by means of mechanical injury or chemical agents. This study reports the percentage of in vitro sporocyst release following mechanical shaking in the presence of varying sizes of glass beads. Glass beads measured 0.5, 1, and 3 mm in diameter and were shaken with the oocysts for different times ranging from 5 sec to 5 min. Approximately 80% of sporocysts were released with 5 min of shaking in the presence of 3 mm glass beads, as well as 30 sec with 0.5 mm beads and 1 mm glass beads. The release of sporocysts of E. tenella was most efficient using 1 mm glass beads and treatment times of 30 sec to 1 min. Therefore, the use of 1 mm glass beads with 30 sec to 1 min of agitation is recommended in order to maximize sporocyst release and recovery and to improve the yield of viable sporozoites for use in biochemical, tissue culture, and immunological applications of coccidia.

  • Retroreflector is different from other reflecting surfaces as it mades reflection in which radiation is returned in directions close to its incoming direction. Because of this characteristics, retroreflectors find many applications in traffic safety related areas. Retroreflectors are usually made using comer cubes, or partially coated glass beads. These glass beads can be made very small, so that they can be coated on sheets or mixed with paints. The design of glass type retroreflector depends on glass bead's shape and material, and its optical characteristics are related to the refractive index of glass. In this paper, a method of anlyzing glass bead type retroreflector's sptical characteristics with respect to shape and optica property of the glass, is presented. First, the coefficient of retroreflection, which is a measure of retroreflector's optical characteristics, is derived analytically using geometrical optics method. And the result is plotted using numerical methods. The results show good match with those obtained experimentally, which were supplied from a commercial retroreflector manufacturer.

  • In this study, driving efficiency and the safety of motorcycle drivers due to the mounting gradient of motorcycle protective glass are investigated through flow analysis. Mounting gradients of motorcycle protective glass in models 1, 2, and 3 are $60^{\circ}$, $70^{\circ}$, and $80^{\circ}$, respectively. Wind velocity of 100 km/h is applied to the protective glass installed at the front of each model. The flow resistance values of models 2 and 3 are 1.2 and 1.5 times, respectively, that of model 1. The driving efficiency of model 1 is the highest among the three models. Pressure to the driver's face in models 2 and 3 is 1.2 times higher than in model 1. Because the pressure to the driver's face in model 1, with mounting gradient of $60^{\circ}$, is the lowest among the three models, model 1 is the safest. This result can be applied to improve the safety of motorcycle drivers.

  • We investigated the breakdown patterns of silica glass under the various impacts by forensic scientific analysis. The impacts were chosen by thermal and projectiles impact stress. Thermal impacts under the fire were constructed by changing the position of the flame with gas torches. Physical impacts were constructed with the projectiles of slingshots and rifles by changing the size of the projectiles at the surfaces and the initial distance. Also we identified incident angles of the projectiles by analysis of the punching portion at the glass surface. Under the thermal impacts, the breakdown patterns were various by changing the position of the flame. Especially, the configuration of breakdown patterns had radial shape with the position of the flame at the center of the glass sheet. Under the physical impacts by the projectiles, the breakdown patterns had always radial shape.

  • This study discusses frequency analysis based on autoregressive (AR) time series model, and the characterization of surface quality in orthogonal cutting of a fiber-matrix composite materials. A sparsely distributed idealized composite material, namely a glass reinforced polyester (GFRP) was used as workpiece. Analysis method employs a force sensor and the signals from the sensor are processed using AR time series model. The experimental correlations between the fiber pull-out and AR model coefficients are then established.
