Effect of Fabrication Methods on Static Strength of Polymer Based Composites under the Low Temperature Range (적층 방법에 따른 복합재의 저온 영역 하에서 정적 강도 변화)

  • When the wind turbine is used in cold regions, the mechanical properties and dimension stability of the blade will be changed. The proposal of this paper is to test the durability of the blade for wind turbine. It is necessary to select the most comfortable materials and fabrication processes for more stable wind turbine blade in cold regions. To select the most comfortable materials and processes, the static strength has to know through the tensile static tests at the severe condition as cold regions. First, the tensile static specimens made by RIM (Resin injection molding) process & vacuum bagging process with reinforcement materials and resin. Tensile static tests were carried out on three laminate lay-ups (carbon prepreg, carbon fiber dry fabric and glass fiber dry fabric) at different test temperature($24^{\circ}$, $-30^{\circ}$), determining properties such as the mechanical strength, stiffness and strain to failure. At different test temperature, in order to test the tensile strengths of these specimens used the low temperature chamber. Next, the results of this test were compared with each other. Finally, the most comfortable materials and fabrication processes can select based on these results. The results show the changes in the static behavior of three laminate lay-ups at different test temperatures. At low temperatures, the static strengths are higher than the ones at room temperature.

  • The Solar Daylighting Technology is considered with the plan that will be able to embody the energy technology which is possible to continue. Daylighting has an considerable advantage of the high effectiveness and the various use because daylighting can use the infrared ray, the visible ray and the ultraviolet rays without energy transformation. In this study, the experiment is tried of making the shape and an arrangement of the reflector different After establishing the reflector in the height(10m) which is fixed. It's also researched on the shape of the efficient reflector using the program(Trace Pro) at the time of the autumnal equinox and the winter solstice at fixed hours.

  • Lightweight board has been used for manufacturing various fields of automotive interior trims for years. The GMPU board was constructed with glass fiber mat, honeycomb and polyurethane foamed using polyol and isocyanate materials which were sprayed by robot that is interlocked foaming machine. For more lightweight and cost reduction this paper shows how to optimize GMPU process parameters that related to foaming condition, robot position and robot velocity for polyurethane weight. The results show that flexural strength and modulus of board's specimens were evaluated by robot velocity and moving pattern. Based on that, a innovative process was developed for more lightweight and cost reduction.

  • In order to analyse the degradation process of epoxy/glass fiber for outdoor condition, FRP laminate was exposed to the wavelength of ultraviolet rays and evaluated by comparing contact angle, surface resistivity, surface potential decay, and ESCA spectrum respectively. Finally, We can conclude that the degradation phenomena on the surface of epoxy composites are dominated by the induction of ester and carboxyl groups.

  • We report on the polarization-insensitive design and fabrication of an arrayed waveguide gratings (AWG's) using sol-gel derived silica glass films formed on fused silica substrates to provide cheap and stable tools for better design. An arrayed-waveguide grating multiplexer with raised structure is fabricated in order to effect polarization sensitivity. Since polarization is usually not known after propagation in an optical fiber. passive WDM components such as monolithic wavelength demultiplexer have to be polarization insensitive.   • In this paper, the importance of the size effects on the strength ratio is demonstrated by numerical results. The rate of decrease of tensile strength is for glass fiber, based on the experience of a composite manufacturing specialist. For other material, similar procedure may be used until detailed test result on such material is available. The strength criteria used is that of Tsai-Wu for stress space. The factors influencing the ratio are, reducing the tensile strength alone or both tensile and compression strengths, selection of the normalized interaction term, that is, the generalized Von Mises criterion or the Hill's criterion, and the status of applied stresses. Some of the numerical results are presented for a guideline for the furture study.

  • In this study, The fatigue properties of the GFRP composite panels of which core was made of the polymer mortar and both facings were reinforced by the high-tensile GFRP were surveyed. Composite-panel specimens consisted of polymer mortar core and GFRP compressive and tensile sides with various thickness were produced for an experimental study. Flexural fatigue tests were conducted to examine the correlation between the fatigue load and the fatigue life for various thickness of core and facings, and its results are presented. The correlation obtained in this study between the fatigue load and the fatigue life for various thickness arc in good agreement with the modified Miner's law.

  • The bond characteristics of GFRP(glass fiber reinforced polymer) rods with various surface deformation produced by RTM(resin transfer molding) process were analyzes experimentally. Two types of GFRP rods with different surface deformation manufactured by RTM process in domestic area and two types of GFRP rebars imported were considered in this study. All testing procedures including specimens preparation, set-up of test equipments and measuring devices were made according to the CSA S806-02 recommendations. From the test results, it was found that deformed-type GFRP rod manufactured by RTM process showed the highest bond strength among test specimen. But, wave-type GFRP rod made by RTM process show the lowest value due to the splitting failure of concrete caused by the wedge action of waved surfaces on GFRP rods.

  • Superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) has attracted a great deal of interest from the viewpoint of energy saving. The magnet of conduction-cooled high temperature superconducting (HTS) SMES is cooled down by a cryocooler. One of the most important problems to be assured the protection of magnet and cryocooler is breakdown at cryogenic temperature. In this study, we investigated insulation materials such as Kapton, Aluminum Nitride(AIN), Alumina($Al_2O_3$), glass fiber reinforced plastics(GFRP) and vacuum in cryogenic temperature. Also, we analyzed statistically the Weibull distribution of breakdown voltage.

  • 전력수요의 지속적 증가에 따라 송전설비의 추가적인 건설은 불가피하지만 토지구입비 증대 및 님비현상 등에 따른 토지구입난 등의 건설여건의 악화에 따라 보다 더 최적화 된 송전철탑의 도입이 요구되고 있다. 고분자소재 및 성형기술의 발달로 금속의 기계적 강도를 능가하는 절연성능을 가진 고분자 복합재료의 제작이 가능하게 되면서 큰 기계적 강도가 요구되는 철탑의 암(arm)을 고강도 FRP(Fiber glass Reinforced Plastics)를 적용한 암 절연물(braced post insulator)로 대체하려는 시도가 진행되고 있다. 본 논문은 기존의 철탑에서 도체를 지지하고 고전압이 인가된 도체의 공간적 절연 유지를 위하여 사용되던 무거운 금속 암과 애자련 대신 중심부분을 전기적 특성과 내환경성이 우수한 암 절연물을 사용한 154kV급 철탑 설계 방법과 컴팩트화 방법에 대해 제시하고자 한다.
