  • Current bridge design codes do not clearly specify the girder distribution factors for continuous bridges. The objective of the paper is to validate the use of code-specified girder distribution factors for the continuous steel girder bridges, and to provide a basis for recommended girder distribution factors (GDF) for interior girders, suitable for evaluation of existing continuous steel girder bridges. This paper presents the procedure and results of 3-dimensional finite element analysis that were performed on five of continuous steel girder bridges to verify girder distribution factors. The analysis results showed that the live load moment distribution at the negative moment region is very similar to those at the positive moment region in continuous steel girder bridges. It was also found that the GDF's based on the strain values are similar to those based on the deflection. GDF's based on the deflection show marginally better distribution. The analysis results confirmed that the code specified GDF's for continuous steel girder birdges are very conservative.

  • Motivated by optimization considerations we revisit the work by Dontchev in [7] involving the convergence of Newton's method to a solution of a generalized equation in a Banach space setting. Using the same hypotheses and under the same computational cost we provide a finer convergence analysis for Newton's method by using more precise estimates.

  • We study categorical properties of the category SWQOS (S$\^$U/WQOS, S$\^$L/WQOS, resp) of (upper, lower, resp.) semi-continuous quasi-ordered spaces and the subcategory SWPOS (S$\^$U/WPOS, S$\^$L/WPOS, resp.) of (upper, lower, resp.) semicontinuous partially ordered spaces. We show that the categories S$\^$U/WPOS, S$\^$L/WPOS and SWPOS are closed under the formation of initial mono-sources in the category TQOS of topological quasi-ordered spaces, and they we mono-topological, complete and cocomplete epireflective subcategories of the category TQOS. We obtain their MacNeille and universal initial completions, as well as those of subcatego.ies S$\^$U/WQOS(S$\^$L/WQOS) and SWQOS, in which the topologies are T$\_$0/ and T$_1$, respectively.

  • Continuous cooling transformation behaviors were studied fur low carbon HSLA steels containing three different level $(1\~3\;wt\%)$ of Ni addition. Thermo-mechanical processing (TMP) simulations to construct continuous cooling (CCT) diagram were conducted by using Gleeble system. As cooling rate increased, pearlite, granular bainite, acicular ferrite, bainitic ferrite and lath martensite were transformed from deformed austenite. Fully bainitic microstructure were developed at all cooling rate condition in high Ni containing steel due to hardenability increasing effects of Ni. Ni also influenced the transformation kinetics. At the slowest cooling rate of $0.3^{\circ}C/s$, transformation delayed with decreasing Ni contents because of the diffusion of substitutional alloy elements. However, cooling rate slightly increased to $1^{\circ}C/s$, transformation kinetics accelerated with decreasing Ni contents because nucleation of bainite was sluggish due to hardening of residual austenite.

  • The present study examines whether pitch range variation in North Kyunsang Korean shows a categorical or continuous function. Specifically, the study is focused on the data imitated by adults and children in the North Kyungsang region. To investigate pitch range variation, the log-produced f0 intervals were measured and statistically analyzed. The results of the study are as follows. First, both the adults' and children's imitations were more categorical than continuous, especially for the HL-LH patterns. For the other pitch accent patterns, such as HH-HL and HH-LH, the curves were continuous or flat for most of the speakers. Second, the children's imitations were poorer than those of the adults. That is, the children's imitative responses were shown as more continuous or flat curves than categorical. For the children, the HL-LH pattern showed a categorical function at the midpoint of the curves, though the shifts were not as distinctive as the adults' data. This implies that the imitative responses of children follow the perceptual and productive trace of adults' speech behavior.

  • In this paper, we introduce the concept of fuzzy almost strongly (r, s)-semicontinuous mappings on intuitionistic fuzzy topological spaces in $\check{S}$ostak's sense. The relationships among fuzzy strongly (r, s)-semicontinuous, fuzzy almost (r, s)-continuous, fuzzy almost (r, s)-semicontinuous, and fuzzy almost strongly (r, s)-semicontinuous mappings are discussed. The characterization for the fuzzy almost strongly (r, s)-semicontinuous mappings is obtained.

  • In the space $C_1(X)$ of real-valued continuous functions with $L_1-norm$, every bounded set has a relative Chebyshev center in a finite-dimensional subspace S. Moreover, the set function $F\rightarrowZ_S(F)$ corresponding to F the set of its relative Chebyshev centers, in continuous on the space B[$C_1(X)$(X)] of nonempty bounded subsets of $C_1(X)$ (X) with the Hausdorff metric. In particular, every bounded set has a relative Chebyshev center in the closed convex set S(F) of S and the set function $F\rightarrowZ_S(F)$(F) is continuous on B[$C_1(X)$ (X)] with a condition that the sets S(.) are equal.

  • In this paper, we focus on the convex-valued selection theorem out of four main selection theorems; zero-dimensional, convex-valued, compact-valued, finite-dimensional theorems based on Michael's papers. We prove some theorems about lower semi-continuous set-valued mappings, and derive some applications to closed continuous set-valued mappings and to functional analysis. We also give a partial solution to the open problem posed by Engelking, Heath, and Michael.
