  • Although Due to industrial development and urbanization, the number of schools closing due to a decrease in the school-age population is increasing due to the phenomenon of relocation from farming and fishing villages. Closing schools are used as social and cultural facilities, or they are used to generate income by providing education and experiences. Agro-healing is an activity that promotes psychological, social, and physical health by using rural resources. By reflecting the Agro-healing in the services operated by the closed school, the perception of the provision of the Agro-healing service was investigated as a way to provide a therapeutic service to visitors and to increase the utilization of the closed school. The questionnaire consisted of 10 questions, a total of 5 questions related to demographic information, a total of 5 questions related to the perception of agro-healing activities in closed school facilities. As a result, 347 people participated in the survey. The higher the awareness of agro-healing, the need for a agro-healing expert, the satisfaction with the use of rural closed school facilities, and the willingness to participate in agro-healing activities, the higher the awareness that the provision of agro-healing services was necessary by the state. Theses results are expected to be useful as basic to data to solve the diverse limitation in rural closed school and agro-healing activities.

  • Myanmar(Burma) has been preserved valuable environmental resources because of its political isolation. But recently, Myanmar has moved a capital city(Naypyidaw) at central forest area and it has been urbanized radically since 2005. In this paper, we built multi-temporal land cover map from Landsat images of 1970s to 2012 with ENVI 4.5 software. For a broad approach, administrative district Yamethin which includes Naypyidaw is classified into 3 classes and with only Naypyidaw region is classified with 4-5 classes to analyse specific changes. And with forest cover extracted by Object Oriented Classification, we evaluated forest fragmentation before and after the development using Patch Analyst(FRAGSTATs 3.3) at Yamethin area. For Yamethin area, there were significant forest cover change, 51% in 1999 to 48% in 2012, and for Naypyidaw area, 67% in 1999 to 57% in 2012 respectively. Also landscape indices resulted from Patch Analyst concluded that the total edge, edge density and mean shaped index of forest patches increased and total core area is decreased. It is attributed from land cover change with urbanization and agricultural land expansion.

  • Characteristics of urban wanning phenomenon were studied using degree days for three big cities(Seoul, Busan, Daegu) adjacent to airport. Time variation of the cooling and heating degree days was analyzed using the daily mean air temperature data measured at the six meteorological observatory for long-term periods(25~43years). The results for the big cities are as followings: 1) It was found that the heating degree days trended to decrease from year to year. 2) The cooling degree days were nearly unchanged during the same analysis periods. 3) The number of days calling for air-heating also tended to decrease as time passes. 4) Those of air-cooling were nearly unchanged during the same time. It suggests that the change of air-heating condition owing to urbanization came in evidence in the winter season, but that of air-cooling condition was slight in the summer season. On the other hand, the long-term trends of degree days were very small in airport areas except for Kimhae airport. Hence, the gaps of degree days between big cities and rural airport areas are increasing.

  • We studied the distribution of air temperature using the high density urban climate observation network data of Daegu. The observation system was established in February 2013. We used a total of 38 air temperature observation points (23 thermometers and 18 AWSs). From the distribution of monthly averaged air temperatures, air temperatures at the center of Daegu were higher than in the suburbs. The daily minimum air temperature was more than or equal to $25^{\circ}C$ and the daily maximum air temperature was more than or equal to $35^{\circ}C$ at the elementary school near the center of Daegu. Also, we compared the time elements, which are characterized by the diurnal variation of surface air temperature. The warming and cooling rates in rural areas were faster than in urban areas. This is mainly due to the difference in surface heat capacity. These results indicate the influence of urbanization on the formation of the daily minimum temperature in Daegu.

  • Due to urbanization and industrialization, the population of rural areas has sharply decreased, and the social phenomena of low fertility and aging have occurred due to many factors such as the spread of individualism and single-person households derived from urbanization and economic growth. In order to cope with the low birth rate and the aged society, the Korean government has invested 152.1 trillion won from 2006 to 2015 and to proceeded total 231 projects in 3 different areas including the low fertility(95 projects), the aged society(78 projects), and the growth momentum(58 projects). Among the social problems caused by the low birth rate and the aged society, there have been not enough studies on the closed schools which will result from the social phenomenon of decreases in the school age population. The purpose of this study is to analyze the current extent of utilizing closed schools in Korea, to derive some types based on the analysis, and to provide basic data on the use of closed schools in Korea in the future. The types of closed schools can be classified into education facilities, social welfare facilities, cultural facilities, public sports facilities, income growing facilities, and others. Based on the classification, the analyses of the characteristics of each type for the facilities are presented.

  • Cemeteries in the United States are frequently observed near residential areas in cities even though they are spaces for the dead. However, it has not been fully studied when and how cemeteries were formed in the process of urbanization. Thus, this research aimed to investigate the spatial structure and historical change of cemeteries in Seattle due to urbanization, focusing on the contextual relationship between cemeteries and the surroundings according to two time periods: the early formation period of cemeteries in Seattle and the current period. For this, a mixed method was taken in this paper that combined historical analysis based on old references and historic maps with cluster analysis using GIS. In conclusion, the research found that early cemeteries of Seattle in downtown areas were introduced as by-products of urban formation, but the cemeteries in the suburbs were established ahead of urban growth and neighborhood development. In addition, Seattle's cemeteries not only showed a similar locational pattern to Seattle's shopping centers, but also were positively associated with population distribution given the Hot Spot Analysis. In other words, Seattle's cemeteries were originally located in rural areas, but later came to be located in urban areas, sustaining the landscape of American rural cemeteries.

  • Industrialization and urbanization have caused health inequality between rural areas and cities. Health care in rural area is insufficient comparing to urban areas. This study examined the effects of social capital, Health Information, and medical communication factors on Health status in rural community using structural equation modeling. First, social capital has an effect on medical communication with physicians and medical communication impacts on health status. Second, health information orientation has an impact on health behavior and Internet health information. Lastly, health information orientation influenced by Internet health information as a mediator affects health status. As a whole, this study contributes to theoretical explanation about determinants of health status in communities by examining structural path of the effects of social factors and communication factors on health status in rural area.

  • The gap of the quality of life and living environment between urban and rural area have been widened since the industrialization and urbanization oriented five year economic development plans started in 1963. To mitigate the gaps, Korean government had commenced the cultural(collective) village development projects, as a pilot cases such as Gyeryong and Ucheon projects from 1991. This paper contains first the concepts of cultural village, types of village formation, types of village development, allocation problems of housing sites, procurement of project costs and other problems experienced during constuction of the projects. The main policy guidelines for the successful development of cultural villages are as follows: 1. Cultural village development should be carried out in coincide with the present status of farm household incomes. 2. The countermeasures should be consistant with the general objective of the cultural village development institutionally. 3. Propaganda of the cultural village development in rural area is prerequisite to success the projects. 4. Favourable terms and conditions of credit loans as loan amount of 30 million won with interest rate of 3% per annum and 25 years repayment period including 5 years grace period should be given by the Government. 5. Special benefits in the tax system should be given to rural peoples in the cultural villages. 6. The cultural village development should be classified into two groups as the cultural village development in rurban area and the cultural village development in rural area.
