  • Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate a pilot project of the Nursing Feeding Center "Posyandu Plus" (NFCPP) through local food-based complementary feeding (LFCF) program designed to improve the nutritional status of children aged 6-36 months at community health centers in Indonesia. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was used to obtain data regarding the nutritional status of 109 children who participated in the project from 6 rural areas. The NFCPP was conducted for 9 weeks, comprising 2 weeks of preintervention, 6 weeks of intervention, and one week of postintervention. The LFCF intervention consisted of 12 sets of recipes to be made by mothers and given to their children 4 times daily over 6 weeks. The weight-for-age z score (WAZ), height-for-age z score (HAZ), weight-for-height z score (WHZ), and body mass index-for-age z score (BAZ) were calculated using World Health Organization Anthro Plus version 1.0.3. Results: LFCF intervention significantly increased WHZ, WAZ, and BAZ scores but decreased HAZ scores (P<0.001). Average scores of WHZ ($0.96{\pm}0.97$) and WAZ ($0.45{\pm}0.72$) increased; BAZ increased ($1.12{\pm}0.93$) after 6 weeks of LFCF. WAZ scores postintervention were 50.5% of normal, and WHZ scores were 77.1% of normal. However, the HAZ score decreased by $0.53{\pm}0.52$, which indicated 57.8% had short stature. Conclusion: The NFCPP program with LFCF intervention can improve the nutritional status of children in rural areas. It should be implemented as a sustained program for better provision of complementary feeding during the period of lactation using local food made available at community health centers.

  • Purpose: This study was done to verify the effects of a self-regulation program for management of hypertension. Method: Thirty patients with hypertension registered in a community health center were selected as the experiment group, and control group were patients in another community health center, matched for age and gender. The self-regulation program included daily blood pressure checks, periodic counseling, and health education. A self-check digital device with instructions was provided for self-monitoring of blood pressure, and the participants were interviewed before they took part in the program. Results: The first hypothesis was supported: There will be a greater reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure for patients with hypertension who participate in the self-regulation program compared to patients in the control group. The second hypothesis was also supported: Patients with hypertension who participate in the self-regulation program will perform self-care activities better than those in the control group. Conclusion: The findings indicate that a self-regulation program reduces systolic and diastolic blood pressure and improves self-care in patients with hypertension. It is recommended that this self-regulation program be used in community health clinics for management of hypertension and prevention of complications.

Though the change of agricultural extension service is necessary to perform extended functions of rural area and to satisfy needs of new group of users, it is difficult to find enough studies on new functions and roles of Agricultural Technology Center to manage the service change. Therefore, this study is aimed to suggest new functions and roles of Agricultural Technology Center according to stream of times. This study were surveyed through questionnaire targeting users of Namyangju Agricultural Technology Center to compare user group awareness of Agricultural Technology Center in urban and rural complex city. According to this study result, while main purpose of agriculturalists' visiting at Agricultural Technology Center was participating in education programs related with agriculture. In contrast, nonagriculturalists usually visited the center for agricultural understanding, leisure activities, and children education, participating in field work programs. From the survey result of required functions of the center, it was revealed that nonagriculturalists expected urban agriculture, research for living improvement in rural area, adjustment education for returning farmer, and function of farming promotion, comparing agriculturalists. • Purpose: To identify the effects on tuberculosis mortality of a tuberculosis control program conducted at 108 community health centers in terms of structure and process. Methods: The dependent variable was tuberculosis mortality, and the independent variables were the structure(type of centers, staff, nurses, doctors, budget) and process(chest X-ray checking, immunization, case detection, health education, patients registering & managing) of the tuberculosis control programs at the community health centers. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and stepwise regression analysis. Result: Tuberculosis morality was positively correlated with type of centers(rural area)(p<0.01), but negatively correlated with type of centers(large cities) (p<0.01), (middle cities)(p<0.05), staff FTE(p<0.05), and number of nurses(p<0.05). • This study explores the background and the processes underpinning the educational reform movement based on local community. This educational community initiated the alternative education reform movement, which is referred to as the small school movement. A qualitative case study was implemented by collecting data from thirty articles, three focused interviews. This study drew out three key factors as the operation of educational community in regional area. First, it claimed a total of 30 papers related to the educational community for content analysis. Second, key words were derived in the local educational community context. They developed their own alternative educational programs, such as self-supportive meeting, season carnivals, community revitalization activities, and so on. Their focus was on finding out and establishing better educational relationships among the concerned communities. Third, the community continues to reinforce the internal rules and climate through meta-education, a process, in which education educates itself. As a result, they could enjoy substantial success in a visible educational community. This small school revival movement later grew into the new school movement. Furthermore, a variety of teachers, parents groups, and interested scholars have been engaged in the community movement through professional networking. This study suggests that the key innovator-initiated movement, which involves education reform, upgraded Korean education, and improved their own expertise and autonomy, is expected to be the first step to solve the current Korean educational problems by the educational community.
