  • Vehicle ad hoc networks (VANET) are one of the most important technologies to provide various ITS services. While VANET requires rapid and reliable transmission, packet transmission in VANET is unstable because of high mobility. Many routing protocols have been proposed and assessed to improve the efficiency of VANET. However, topology-based routing protocols generate heavy overhead and long delay, and position-based routing protocols have frequent packet loss due to inaccurate node position. In this paper, we propose a position-based routing repair algorithm to improve the efficiency of VANET. This algorithm is proposed based on the premise that AODV (-PGB) can be used effectively in VANET, if the discovery, maintenance and repair mechanism of AODV is optimized for the features of VANET. The main focus of this algorithm is that the relay node can determine whether its alternative node exits and judge whether the routing path is disconnected. If the relay node is about to swerve from the routing path in a multi-hop network, the node recognizes the possibility of path loss based on a defined critical domain. The node then transmits a handover packet to the next hop node, alternative nodes and previous node. The next node repairs the alternative path before path loss occurs to maintain connectivity and provide seamless service. We simulated protocols using both the ideal traffic model and the realistic traffic model to assess the proposed algorithm. The result shows that the protocols that include the proposed algorithm have fewer path losses, lower overhead, shorter delay and higher data throughput compared with other protocols in VANET.

  • The distribution routing problem is one of the important problems in distribution and supply center management. This research is concerned with an integrated distribution routing problem for multi-supply centers based on improved genetic algorithm and GUI-type programming. In this research, we used a three-step approach; in step 1 a sector clustering model is developed to transfer the multi-supply center problem to single supply center problems which are more easy to be solved, in step 2 we developed a vehicle routing model with time and vehicle capacity constraints and in step 3, we developed a GA-TSP model which can improve the vehicle routing schedules by simulation. For the computational purpose, we developed a GUI-type computer program according to the proposed methods and the sample outputs show that the proposed method is very effective on a set of standard test problems, and it could be potentially useful in solving the distribution routing problems in multi-supply center problem.

  • The routing algorithm is one of the key research areas in ad hoc networks. The most of existing routing algorithms depends on current availability of wireless link when finding the feasible path. Dependence on current information may mislead to a fragile communication path. Some routing approaches that take statistical average on received signal power enhance the possibility to find the most stable path, but have limitation on considering only the average power level. In this paper, we propose routing algorithm based on link stability for ad hoc network. The proposed algorithm not only takes statistical average, but also traces the degree of variations in received signal power. The simulation result support that the proposed algorithm is more likely to find the most stable path under the severe communication environment.

  • In most computer networks, each node needs to have correct routing information for finding shortest paths to forward data packets. In a distributed environment, however, it is very difficult to keep consistent routing information throughout the whole network at all times. The presence of out-dated routing information can cause loop-forming which in turn causes the significant degradation of network performance. In this paper, a new class of routing algorithm for loop detection and resolution is discussed. The proposed algorithm is based on the distributed Bellman-Ford algorithm which is popularly adopted for routing in computer network. The proposed algorithm detects and resolves all kinds( two-node and multi-node) of loop in a distributed environment within finite time while maintaining the simplicity of the distributed Bellman-Ford algorithm.

  • This study is concerned with the problem of routing vehicles stationed at a central depot to supply customers with known demands, in such a way as to minimize the total distance travelled. The problem is referred to as the vehicle routing problem and is a generalization of the multiple traveling salesmen problem that has many practical applications. A branch-and-bound algorithm for the exact solution of the vehicle routing problem is presented. The algorithm finds the optimal number of vehicles as well as the minimum distance routes. A numerical example is given.

  • In this paper, we propose a basic virtual grid-based routing algorithm in order to devise an efficient routing method in ad hoc networks using the location information of nodes, energy level, etc. A packet is forwarded to the X-axis direction at first based on the location information of a destination node, and then it is forwarded to the Y-axis direction as its location becomes close to the destination from the viewpoint of the X-axis. Due to the selection of next hop nodes to deliver a packet from a certain node to a destination node, we can regard the whole network as a virtual grid network. The proposed routing algorithm determines routing paths using the local information such as the location information of a destination and its neighbor nodes. Thus, the routing path setup is achieved locally, by which we can expect reduction in network traffics and routing delays to a destination. To evaluate the performance of the proposed routing algorithm, we used the network simulator ns2 and compared its network throughput with that of an existing routing algorithm.

  • We introduce a location-based routing model applied for grid backbone nodes in wireless mesh network. The number of paths with nearest distance between two nodes is calculated and used as key parameter to execute routing algorithm. Node will increase the transmission range that makes a trade off with data rate to reach its neighbors when node itself is isolated. The routing model is lightweight and oriented thanks to the simple but efficient routing algorithm.
